The USB cable is pretty useless regardless of wether or not it's proprietray, like a lot of cameras it's only USB 2.0 'full speed', which is basically USB 1.1. Your probably going to want to spend £5 on a decent SDHC USB 2.0 'high speed' adapter anyway.

Well - looks pretty weird to me and as it also carries a video signal for video out I thought it was probably proprietary. MicroUSB supports composite video outputs?
