  • snare start always eh? :D

  • The CS dots sound great

    The ultimate rock head

  • I watch this and think how much of a better solo this is than any solo ive seen from Alex Van Halen or Tommy Lee or so many other big names of that era and wonder how it is that youre not as famous but then realise what you do today and how many people benefit from your videos including myself and how much ive learned from you and say thank god he isnt as big . • You in your hay-day, i love it dude! & you still have the same look in your eyes; that you're doing what you love. It's something that i know the haters hate deep down inside, in themselves - They hate that they haven't put forth great effort like you have. You have a gift & implimented that in your life thru due diligence. Moreover, you've sought out techiniques & new ways to improve other's lives through the art of teaching, muscianship & drumming. I look forward to talking with you personally

  • that was awesome! Great Job 18 years ago man.

  • Grunge!

Well, some day, I'll look at my younger self and say...well, dear lord.

  • What you see in this video is traditional thrash (VP's look, anyway), this was probably right during the advent of grunge but before it caught on everywhere.

  • haha Polyrythm in an improv...nice

  • wow! in 1991 we both had more hair! good stuff

  • What exactly happened at 1:00? If you blink your eyes you miss it. Give us a lesson on what happened??

  • Fuckin cheezy-azz double bassers! He teaches Bonham but Bonham never had a double bass because His triplets are unparrelleled!

  • Man, I think you deserved to find a band that had the skill to make it big, cause you sure did, but oh well. You seem content with where you are today.

    Snare sound is lovely...

  • Awesome drum solo, wow...Were you using a double bass pedal? Noticed you started off with the traditional grip, then switched to match grip. The video effect at 4:43 and 4:50 was cool. Anyway, great drumming I enjoyed it and hope to pick up some tips to make my playing better. Thanks

  • Nice, lovin the hair. how long had you been playing in this video?

  • 14 yrs. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • i love your snare solo

  • Absolutely amazing! and a mullet to boot!! SWEET!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude that was absolutley insane my man. i was i knew some of this stuff at least so i can start off slow and hopefully be as close to being as rediculously fast and dead on those chops. you have a gift.

  • what the fuck did he do at 1:00??????

  • Tom Swipe. Check out my video on my channel

  • dude that is bad ass

  • Dude how are you not world famous!??! This easily competes with some of tony royster jrs stuff when he was a teenager!! Wow absolutely insane, your chops, technique, independence, perfect. You have a gift. You should post one of you soloing TODAY!

  • It was an impressive solo, and I'm not trying to take away from it. But, it was in no way anywhere close to Tony Royster Jr.

  • I said when he was a TEENAGER. Tony Royster is in his early 20s now. This guy could compete with Royster when he was 13. Not now.

  • hey do you know a guy named George Stritter?? He's my guitar teacher.

  • Heck yes. George and I spent many years jammin' in Jersey. I am from Newton. Very cool. Please tell him I said hello. He rocks. One amazing guitarist and teacher. Feel blessed to have such a good teacher. RVP

  • hey man didnt you turn this video in as an audition demo to pro bands?

  • Oh yeah. Back in '91 Ozzy was looking for a drummer. I actually got a nice letter back from Sharon I suppose. That was pretty cool. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • wow, i think this is better than any blk sab drummer and theyve always had good drummers.

  • love the sound of that snare

  • Bring the SHIRT back out of RETIREMENT!! Very cool stuff and THANKS for sharing your knowledge and skills!!!

  • Holy shoe, dude! You play like a devil!

    A M A Z I N G S K I L L S !!!

    Are you in the business?

I don't understand why you're not hired by say Chick Corea or Gino Vannelli..! Are you??

  • Nope. RVP

  • awesome!

and ps. grow back that hair lol

  • dang, too legit to quit.

  • someting else...why did you not make it onto the world stage...you wipe the floor with some so called named drummers!

  • Wow ! Fantastic playing ! I like it...

  • that was superb

  • Randy, i think you should grow that hair back.

  • Definitely! reminds me of my idol Steven Adler lol

  • Does anybody know why it sounds like his hi is being hit, or being accented so to speak. I can clearly see he is not hitting it? Its got a swing sound to it. Is this because of the spring mechanism or some what he has it set up?

  • I was not clear in my previous post. Let me try again, please. At 1:39, you can hear the high hat and its sound is that of am accented swing rhythm. It sounds like it is being hit, but it is not. How does he do this? Is it the spring in the hi hat? Thank you.

  • I think I know what you mean. I may be wrong, but I think he's closing the high hat, and then opening it back up quickly to make that sound.

  • Not sure if this was ever answered, but he's splashing the hi-hats there. On every beat he's kicking the edge of the hi-hat pedal with the heel of his foot to splash the hats. Then he closes them together on the off-beat and repeats again on the next beat and so forth. You can see his feet doing it well at around 5:22. Cheers!
