haha i like how the same people in the same type of crt imploding videos are going around saying the same shit in every video like they are trying to be a public disclaimer hahahaha noobs. yeah, you trancendez hahaha
That was very stupid to smash that CRT monitor. Located within a CRT monitor are five toxic substances. Lead, mercury and barium are the most toxic substances of the five within the CRT. The other toxins which are located within the CRT are cadmium and phosphorous. The health risks associated with human contact to these five toxic substances within the CRT can be deadly.
I'd rather love to see a working CRT in slow motion, with all retracing of the ion gun making a picture. I think 532 fps is fair enough, since it's normally 60 frames per second a standart CRT displays.
DUDE ME TOO! I was looking for that and found this video... I really want to see a CRT make the image really really slowly with a high speed camera, but nobody's hosted it :(
All this slomo mayhem gets old, there is a plenty more interesting things that can be done with a CRT screen aside from smashing it. F.I. how the picture is generated line for line. you would just have to place the camera in front a working monitor. You could always smash it afterwards.
It can in fact kill someone. Especially if it is plugged-in and on (radiation and electrocution). Even if it is off and discharged, there is still lead in the glass and flying glass.
There are electrons inside the TV, but there's no real risk of death, because the vacuum is needed to maintain the electron beam. When a TV screen is smashed, the vacuum is broken. I agree with you on the lead glass thing though.
Hey VaderNES, while I agree with you about the lead in the glass and how picture tube implosion can be deadly, how can smashing a CRT pose radiation? I mean once the tube is smashed doesn't it stop emitting electrons? Please explain.
Multiple: colour, refresh rate, price, lifetime (at least 50 years for CRT TVs), and they are harder to break (LCDs are breakable just by pushing on the screen).
Radiation isn't a problem. If youhave a problem with that, then you do not own a microwave. And space doesn't matter, unless you live in a cat box. And it isn't an eyesore (look at the cool retro '50s TVs, and I personally like the '70s style wood-grain cabinet). And power consumption only matters if you are either a cheap bastard or a dirty liberal.
Space matters cause if I were to have a 24" CRT on my desk.... Well it would break (and its not rotten wood), I meant eyestrain (my bad) and power consumption matters now that for this whole week the electricity company will be on strike and my backup generator will be kicking in....

dude.
make the jump into the new century.
CRT is dead because the picture quality is shit. the technology reached its saturation point so it was replaced by a sharper and for power efficient technology. sorry but its time to leave the stone age.
LCD looks worse. CRTs look better. The Sony Trinitron CRTs have unparralelled picture quality. Not to mention a faster refresh rate than LCDs, and richer colour, and superiour black levels.
sonys are VERY good, but i think that the fact the LCDs are thinner, and CRT technology isnt advancing that much, LCDs will and will always be more prodominat than CRT in the consumer market. In the pro graphic design market, CRT will continue to be the first choice, until you can get CRT beating LCDs
yeah dude it's because lcd's are thinner, that's all. the image on an LCD is sharper, but the color and picture on a CRT is unmatched... close to paintings you'd find on a wall of some classy guy's house lol.. though the expensive LCD screens actually match CRT, and therefore are better because they're thinner, sharper AND have the best color/image quality and refresh rates. LCD is better indeed, if only for it costing so much more
Cool! I've been around several CRT/TVs smashed in real time. I lived to tell the tale too, VaderNES. We know there is a certain amount of nasty stuff inside them so don't pick up the debris with your bare hands. Give me a break, the TV in the video wasn't plugged in. blah blah Half of the posts here are yours. You remind me of Fire Marshal Bill. -Let me show you something!
Smashing TVs should not only be criminal (it is dangerous and tube TVs are awesome), it can be considered blasphemy, because tube TVs are the TVs of god and heaven. Plasma is the TV of hell and satan.
Plasma is actually the worst. I do think that people are like sheep and are easily fooled into paying $5000 for a crappy TV that will die very fast and has worse image quality than their previous TV. My 1968 Zenith has way better image quality than a plasma TV. The thing is that people don't listen to the facts. If people listened to the facts, we would all use CRT TVs and listen to records.

Samsung still makes a 30 inch tube HDTV for $549 at Best Buy. I have the 2002 version of the same TV, still better than any plasma or LCD set.

Maybe I was just overreacting with the radiation, but the rest is true. And Tubes are better than LCD and plasma.

A. I have a CRT TV from 1988 and a CRT monitor on my desk right now, and none have fallen off. Your desk must be cheap, so get a newer, stronger desk.
B. I never strain my eyes when I use a CRT. Just watch it from the correct distance.
C. Then don't use it for the week or for the strike. Use it after the strike.

Destroying a television.. one of the few things I can think of that should be punishable by death.
Other than that, cute video.

It is a biohazard and toxic. A TV tube should have a lot of care with handling so it won't implode and kill.

biohazard? Toxic? I learned sumtin new today

A cathode ray tube is radioactive and uses lead to protect from radiation. Both ar5e deadly.

well production of CRT TVs is going to be ceased soon as the CRT is way more expensive than producing a plasma or LCD screen.
