this is the funnest performance video i have ever seen. the guys are animated, barely containing their little zoo there on stage. deborah's hair partially obscuring her eyes is so damn sexy. is it possible shes so 'hot' and so 'cool' at the same time!? you brits old enough to have been around in the heydey are lucky. here, blondie wasnt nearly as pervasive. ah, video over - time to watch again....for the 20th time.

i remember that well from the liner notes. i always wondered who she was and if she knew her beautiful voice was part of such a kicking song that would be such a favorite. also, lorna luft is credited w/ backing vocals as well - am i correct? she (lorna) is liza minelli's half-sister.
One of my favourite and memorable songs from the Autumn of 1979 as a 7-year old at the time. Thanks for getting rid of that annyoning tit, Steve Wright. A shame the BBC have to ruin our enjoyment and bombard us with pointless text intrusions.
He is so totally into his drums.....wow....I was a nuclear power house electrician and we did some very dangerious & intense work BUT we were never that intense as this drummer was when they did this clip....he is really jamming! [:)~3
Ha! I wasn't allowed to! It was on Xmas day in '79 after 2pm wasn't it. Xmas day was a major family event then (I was only seven), I put the tv on and this performance was being broadcast, I got only a few seconds, enough to remember Debbie's dress before the tv was swicthed off.
@maffjon: Thanks for posting the video, and also for sharing story of when you first saw the video. Cool to hear how favorite songs came to be, for different folks. :)
She's glancing over probably because she doens't like it. Apparently Harry does not like Burke's drum antics. Her and Stein are pretty tough. They got rid of the bassist, guitarist... and now this decade they threw out the original keyboardist. I imagine Clem Burke will be next!
cheers for that Shelter.... Yes I saw a Blondie documentary last year on TV and it did mention that Debbie and Chris weren't always happy with Clem's "enthusiasm" on drums... but Blondie wouldn't be quite the same without Clem I think ;-)
LoL, doetim! Someone else mentioned "glancing." And I just sorta joked and said what I did. I didn't really think that was the reason why... however, it is well known fact that Deborah Harry does not like Clem Burke's drumming antics. That part is true.
Are you sure she doesn't care for his drumming antics? Where did you hear that? I have never heard of that before and I've read about Blondie quite a bit over the years. What exactly about his drumming that she doesn't like?
Why wouldn't she like clem's drumming antics? Blondie is a rock band, not a church choir...his antics provide great rock and roll energy and in their early days she performed with a lot of physical antics herself.

I think it's cute when she stops singing at 1:24 for a few beats. She looks like, "Crap. What are the words again"? Still love her and the song!

Great drum work by Clem. Of course, the entire band is great and with her voice and beauty, Debbie to me is the muse of punk rock.

Actually, Jimmy left to go to rehab and then pursue another non-music career.
They got rid of TWO bassists, actually.
And I doubt they'd lose Clem.
