  • its seams that we have always had the 49ers number except we lost that 2003 wildcard game which should not have ended that way, it should have ended on a pass interference call, but all well it ends well, we probably could have beaten the Bucs if that call would have been & the giants would have played the Eagles for the title game and possibly would have played the Riaders in the SB, but would have probably lost or won but it would have been a great SB

  • This playoff loss in 1985 by the 49ers was the start of 3 straight years in which they were one & done in the playoffs. They were routed 49-3 by the Giants in 1986 & were upset at home by the Minnesota Vikings in 1987 the year they finished with the NFL's best record (13-2) & in that game Bill Walsh pulled Joe Montana from the game for Steve Young & that's where the Montana-Young QB controversey began.

  • Parcells and Ditka are the only coaches to beat Walsh in the 80s, Parcells kept bellechik on while ditka let ryan go

  • Jerry Rice dropped an easy touchdown

  • @ilovegod300 Giants very lucky Bears did not get past Washington......

  • "Ted Watts and Herb Welk!"

  • This when the NFL was the REAL NFL.

  • too bad both of these teams suck now

  • @XXTheappleXX In what year? Not 2011.

  • Eli Manning threw another career high in TDs this season. Why do people give Eli such a hard time? Most of his INTs this year were even passes that a reciever bobbled or deflected, or a bad play call by Gilbride where we should be running. Eli is going to be the greatest QB in NY Football Giant's history. Let's see what Eli does next year because it seems like he does something new each one. Our main issue is consistency. Let's get MORE OF THE GOOD ELI..because he could be Top 5.

  • @DKvsLow

    Yeah.

Also remember the defense need to do well too.

Blowing a three td lead vs. the Eagles is unacceptable and not to mention when a team gives up few touchdowns in the first quarter, the QB will inevitably force the ball, leading to mistakes.

    It's something I'm hoping they'll fix.

  • Funny seeing Parcells before he got a fat ego and Belichick with a mullet.

  • awww nothing is better then watching the giants beat the asshole 9ers!!

  • That Giants defense destroyed quarterbacks...they ended or dramatically shortened the careers of these QBs:

    Theismann (LT ankle break)

Jaworski (his last game NYG-PHI, he was benched for Cunningham)

Danny White (Banks broke his wrist)

Neil Lomax definitely got his career shortened

Montana was never the same after Marshall hit him

Jay Schroeder was never the same after the 1986 NFCCG

I know Elway, Marino and Kelly were glad they didn't have to play in the NFC East

  • I remembered this game like yesterday.

  • @ 36 seconds, pause it and youll see a guy with a pimp coat on!!

  • Montana happened to be around when there were few good defensive teams. Whenever he faced a team with a good defense, he got his ass beat.

  • @YesYou123333

Huh? I'm not a Montana fan, but there were lots of badass defenses in the 1980s NFC (Giants, Bears, Redskins, Eagles in the late 80s, Saints in the late 80s, Cowboys in the early 80s, even Minnesota had a good defense with Doleman. Rams were also a decent defense, not terrible. Montana was on a team with a very underrated defense himself).

If you're talking about the 1980s AFC, then yes, there weren't that many good defenses, but he beat good defenses to get to the SB

  • I thought they beat hell out of the niners then in the Nfc championship game beat gibbs and the skins 17-3, hahah, maybe i mis read something, for you big blue wrecking crew fans , GIANTS AMONG MAN IS A MUST OWN

  • @peterfusco1 that was 86 this is 85. in 85 we beat the niners 17-3 in the wild card game then lost 21-0 to the bears the following week. in 86 we beat the niners 49-3 in the divisional round then beat the skins 17-0 in the championshio game, Giants amoung men was an awesome video.

  • @NYGiants869007 I still own that, but on VHS.

  • @peterfusco1 this is 85...

  • This score is in correct

  • @peterfusco1 HUH

  • do you have the play where bavaro carried the niners teams on his back

  • wasnt that the first gatorade bath?

  • @Kemruss

    has to be

  • bears created in 84 when they won the nfc central

  • we didn't play the Giants in '88 playoffs bcuz we rested our players in our reg season finale on MNF vs LA RAMS that NYG needed us to win to make playoffs. In '89 the Rams beat the NYG in OT in the Meadowlands, then we beat the shit out of the Rams in the NFC title game. In '90 the NYG didn't score a TD on us in 2 games but made the plays to win in the 4th Qt. Too bad the Gmen didn't make it to the 'Stick in '88 and '89, 49ers win both those games. Gmen were our toughest rival. SF 4-3 in POs...

  • If you have this game or the 86 matchup, it would be cool if you posted the whole thing!

  • @eme456 actually the bears created it in 1984

  • Giants/49ers playoff matchups; 1981-1990 1981: SF 38, NYG 24 at Candlestick (div) 1984: SF 21, NYG 10 at Candlestick (div) 1985: NYG 17, SF 3 at Giants Stadium (WC) 1986: NYG 49, SF 3 at Giants Stadium (div) 1990: NYG 15, SF 3 at Candlestick (NFC Ch) reg season: 1981: SF 17, NYG 10 at Candlestick 1984: SF 31, NYG 10 at Candlestick (MNF) 1986: NYG 21, SF 17 at Candlestick (MNF) 1988: SF 20, NYG 17 at Giants Stadium 1989: SF 34, NYG 24 at Candlestick (MNF) 1990: SF 7, NYG 3 at Candlestick (MNF)
  • @dpinzow GREAT list, nice job, thank you.

  • @dpinzow Thanks for posting those scores 49ers and Giants had some great games.

  • The Giants and the Niners had a pretty good rivalry going in the 80's. The NIners won 7 out of 11 against the Giants, but 3 out of the 4 Giants wins came in the postseason. By the way, the final score of the '90 Championship game was 15-12 Giants [not 15-3}.

  • No, it was 15-13.

  • @johnboy779 You are right. I stand corrected. I was heartbroken after that loss. Despite having many great seasons in a 49er uniform, that {unfortunately} is what most Niner fans remember most about Roger Craig. His fumble that cost us a chance at a 3 peat.

  • I have to say that I was happy they lost that game, because as a Steeler fan I didn't want the 49ers to set the three-peat standard. Also, at the time they were tied for 4 SB wins, until the 49ers got their 5th in 1994-95. But now the Steelers have 6, so it's all good.

  • @calbears02 49er fans feel that away about Craig? That's pretty harsh., not fair, dont you think? The guy was a tremendous player, and Erik Howard simply made a great play, nothing to be done about it. It isn't like Craig put it on the ground- it was just a great play by the defense. No one choked in that game- everybody on both sides played great.

  • @giles422 Some of the Niner fans do. I know that I don't. Roger Craig was indeed a great player and it is unfortunate that some people remember him for just what happened in that game.

  • and then the Bears swiftly kicked their ass the next week...

  • @rick100183 bears had one good year in the last 40

  • @morrieswigs Yeah they've been pretty bad most years since 1985 but the 1985 Bears are considered one of the greatest teams of all time so at least I have that until the boneheaded McCaskeys sell the team...if they ever sell.

  • @rick100183 agreed. the bears are a storied franchise they need more consistent play from cutler and some offensive line help

  • @morrieswigs Yeah people here are beginning to call Cutler a bust, although im not ready to give up on him. I mean, my god he's getting killed by a terrible o-line and he has below average receivers who can't run routes. If I were him, my confidence would be waning a bit too. But he isn't entirely a victim here, he needs to get rid of the ball a lot sooner and learn how to the throw the ball away when no play develops. Overall, this coaching staff is ruining him just like i thought they would...

  • Go Big blue!! we fuckin owned the 49ers lol back then

  • Remeber the first two times in the 80's the Giants and 49ers played in the playoffs the 49ers won.

  • No. They lost in 81/82, and then beat them the next time I think.

  • I stand corrected.

  • dude prior to this playoff game in 1985, the last time the niners were held without a td in a playoff game was 1971 when they lost to the cowboys 14-3 in the nfc championship.

  • else's roster with some objectivity you would see that the Giant roster is loaded with talent. Two #1 pick QB's, deep and versatile RB's, talented but unproven WR's, the best O-Line in the NFL and the best D-Line in the NFL (with all apologies to the Vikings) but the Giants are deeper and more versatile; the Giants are young and deep both at LB and in the secondary. I mean this is a loaded football team that drafts very well and is stable.

When Eli plays well this is a hard team to beat!

  • I mean if Eli Manning (who just got paid) were as good as Phil Simms we would have won back to back Super Bowls. He was terrible in the Eagle game; he missed 5 open recievers who gotten behind the Eagles in that game.

I truly believe that the Giants have the best roster 1 through 53 in the NFL. If Eli can play up to that money & he has the talent to do so the Giants will have a chance to win a Super Bowl every one of the next 5 years! Go through the Giant roster and compare it to everyone..

  • The difference between Simms and McMahon was arm strength and that terrible injury in late 1986 didn't help. The Bears defense is the forerunner to the Jets-Raven defense both play today; sort of a 4-3, 3-4 two-gap hybrid defense.

The Belichick-Parcells 3-4 defense is on the verge of become the preferred defense in the NFL. Both defenses were so difficult because of their size; you just couldn't run on either of them and when you are one-dimesional against a great defense your fucked!

  • I am a huge Giant fan but the Bears had a great front seven with three Hall Of Famers: Dan Hampton, Mike Singletary, and Richard Dent will get in. Both teams had great defenses with average secondaries. If you could block the fronts you could make plays against either team.

As for Phil Simms; he was a damn good QB who played his best in the biggest games without any WR talent to speak of. When it mattered most he was a better QB than Jim Kelly or a Warren Moon. Look at the playoff stats!

  • There are many individuals I respect on both these teams but i dislike both franchises collectively.

  • These comments are a riot. I guess if I were a Bears fan, and if I had nothing to cling to except one lonely championship 24 years ago, and no future to look forward to, I'd probably spend my time trolling for videos that the Bears aren't even in. Gee, Bears fan, if the 1986 Bears were so fucking good, why couldn't they beat the Redskins? You know, the Redskins who were beaten three times by the Giants.

  • I love it

  • maybe cuz our offense couldn't stay on the field long enough for our defense to rest. our leading qb threw 2 td's and 10 picks. charles martin gave mcmahon a cheap shot and ended his season. we went 14-2 with just a defense. u guys were 14-2 with an offense and a defsense

  • Do you think that Rutledge would have led the Giants to a superbowl if Simms got injured? Dumbass! McMahon (who was a probowler in 1985), didn't play in the 1986 Redskins Divisional Playoff. Green Doug Flutie as a rookie isn't going to get it done. If the Bears would have had McMahon and didn't get complacent, they would have won back-to-back superbowls.

  • im from chicago the mcmahon injury screwed the 1986 bears

  • @RICARDOAGUAS Even with McMahon--who was a great character--the Giants would have beaten the Bears in the NFC Title game. The Bears and their fans were screwed out of a chance to be good into the 90s when the younger McCaskey messed around and fired Jerry Vainisi. Before that you guys had the late, great Jim Finks. Always sad for fans of any team when ownership meddles with a good thing.

  • @RICARDOAGUAS

I always respected the Bears' D, but the 86 NFC Title game would have been a coronation for the Giants regardless if the Bears made it there or not. By that late stage, very few teams in NFL history could have beaten the Giants. The Bears couldn't beat the Redskins once, whereas the Giants beat them 3 times that year.

  • @scoresby33

Even with McMahon--who was a great character--the Giants would have badly beaten the Bears in the NFC Title game. I always respected the Bears' D, but the 86 NFC Title game would have been a coronation for the Giants regardless if the Bears made it there or not (or even if McMahon played). By that late stage, very few teams in NFL history could have beaten the Giants.

  • The Bears couldn't beat the Redskins once, whereas the Giants beat them 3 times that year. The same thing that happened to Montana the previous week would have happened to McMahon the next week.

  • does anybody have the 86 divisional playoff game Giants 49 49ers 3

  • The Giants and 49ers played in many classic games in those years.

In 1985, the Giants won this playoff game but would go on to lose to the Bears.

New York however, was building the team that would win it all in '86.

I miss those years of Taylor, Simms, Carson and so many others.

    They fought for 60 minutes.

The Giants of those years would go 19-0 today.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • The Giants had a front 7 comprised of 8 great players. That DOES make sense.Taylor,Martin,Burt,Marshall,Banks,Carson,Gary Reasons, and Pepper Johnson. There was not 1 of those 8 players that was not truly great. This was the best defense since the Steel Curtain, not the '85 Bears. The '85 Bears did not have a truly great D-Line(except for Dent). How you beat '85 Bears was simply call a rollout, nobody in the'85 playoffs did.How you beat the '86 Giants was you wait for the season to end.

  • Those were better uniforms than the ones I see now. Why did Mara change them?

  • I was alive for the 1985 seaon i was 9 years old. and guess what i rooted for the giants to beat the bills in super bowl xxv i do not understand the hatred that you have toward the bears

  • Kingbub09 started the agrument. nobody on this video talked shit until that moron. so i defend my team sorry

  • you have every right to defend your team but there is no reason to insult the bears in order to defend your team

  • jackass he insulted the giants and phill simms first. so get lose

  • I understand that he insulted the giants first but if you had any class whatsover you would be able to get your point across without having to use foul language

  • I don't understand all of this hating going on. I started watching football in the early '80s and was enamored with offense. But I will admit the two teams to me that play the most similar styles were the Giants and the Bears. Solid running game, smart QB's who may not wow you with stats, but will make few mistakes and not cost you many games at all. And the defense, both played wonderful smash-mouth defense. I miss those days. Both Simms and McMahon were better QB's than credited for.

  • lol bears fan talking shit lolololol

    how retarded

  • Hey KingJabrone, Jets = 1-0 in the Super Bowl. Bears = 1-1. So shut up and enjoy your 3rd place finish this year.

  • Hey NYGiants869007, just in case you got a massive penis envy for the New York Jets, just remember, this, the Giants and the Jets did not make one playoff appearance during the entire decade of the 1970's...not one...who beat your New York Jets in the 1985 AFC Wildcard in the Meadowlands, bitch!!!!

  • hey moron # 1 i anit a Jets fan # 2 what the fuck did the bears accomplish in the 70s but a blowout vs the Cowboys in 77 and a loss to Philly in 79. Maybe you can re live those Cubs championships over again, o wait you have never seen a world series in you lifetime

  • Hey asshole, that 86 Giants team that you love so much, was nothing but a team of crackheads and coke addicts...Lawrence Taylor said it himself in his autobiography that in 1985-86, more than half of the players on the Giants were either on steroids or hard drugs...and about your man crush Phil Simms, his son Chris sucks just as much as he did...

  • As they go to the great Midwest to get their asses whopped by the 15-1 Chicago Bears...Pat what do you think the score will be? Well John, the Giants don't have a chance against the Bears, I think they will lose, 21-0...

  • Moron you poping all this shit meanwhile you forget who blew your asses out in 1990 31-3. so go fuck your self

  • Q: Who is the only QB in NFL history to be booed by his own fans the day he was drafted?

    A: Phil Simms

Q: Who is the only team in NFL history to be shutout at home in a playoff game?

    A: The New York Giants

  • Yea by the same Carolina team that was underdogs that year against the bears and beat you losers too.

and good job in the super bowl 2 years ago..

    Giants 3 Super Bowls

    Bears 1

  • BEARS 9 CHAMPIONSHIPS GIANTS 7

  • and how manny of those were you alive for

  • Remember from the '81 playoffs on. The first pro football game I remember watching was the epic battle in the '81 AFC Divisional Playoff between San Diego and Miami. I have been a Giants fan since '84. I love the NY Giants, but I did respect the way the Bears played back then.

  • you should also show a little respect for the team that invented the nfl for you to enjoy on sundays.

  • What about Donovan McNabb? He was booed on draft day. Also, go New York Football Giants!

  • Fuck the 86 Giants, I wish Elway and the Broncos would have won Super Bowl XXI

  • Hey NYGiants869007, if you wanna get fuckin belligerent we can do so asshole!!!Jim McMahon didn't suck, after all he was the second ranked passer in the NFC in 1985...he also made the Pro Bowl in 1985...throughout his whole career, Phil Simms was a bum, who was booed by his own fans more than he was cheered...he was even booed the day that he was drafted!!! Jim McMahon was an all-American QB at BYU, who still has numerous collegiate records...while Simms went to Division III Morehead State

  • Hey asshole. McMahon was hurt almost every year he was a pro. the guy played for 6 different NFL teams meanwhile Simms played 14 seasons all with the Giants,. so what he was a fucking all pro at byu big fucking deal. Tom Brady was a 6th round draft pick at Michigan does that mean he was a bum. So keep thinking the Walking wounded was better then Simms because its not the case

  • Simms was average you have to admit, but Joe Morris more than picked up the slack by gaining 1,516 yards...Bavaro was the league's best TE in 1986, with 66 catches for 1,001 yards...the Bears are probably the biggest letdown of any team of the Super Bowl era, everybody expected them to repeat in 1986, but they lost Buddy Ryan to the Eagles, yet they still gave up only 187 pts, which was a record then for a 16 game season...I'll give the G-men credit though...

  • Jikk you're absolutely right, the Giants were the best team in the league in 1986...they could have gone into the Super Bowl undefeated had they not lost to the Cowboys, 31-28, in the Monday night opener, and to the Seahawks, 17-12, in a Thursday night game in Week 5...

  • Jikk, you're absolutely right, the Giants were the league's best team in 1986...they could have gone into the Super Bowl undefeated had not they lost to the Cowboys, 31-28, in the Monday night opener, and not lost to the Seahawks, 17-12, on a Thursday night game in Week 5...but Simms was average, you have to admit, Joe Morris more than picked up the slack with 1,516 yards...Bavaro was the best TE in the league that year with 66 catches for 1,001 yards...

  • Giants lost to the hawks week 7 and it was a sunday game.... and you act like Jim Mcmahon was an all pro QB the guy fucking stunk. the reason you guys won in 85 was because of that great defense. o yea simms might of had a bad regular season but towards the end of the season he was one of the best QBs in the NFC.he threw 22 intos in the regular season but guess hoe many he threw in the playoffs ZERO. And in the super bowl he put on one of the best performences in super bowl history by a QB

  • To NYGiants86...your boy Phil Simms threw 22 Ints in 1986...the reason that your G-men went to the Super Bowl in 1986 was because, Jim McMahon was injured all season, and the Bears had too many quarterbacks...the 49ers defense had so many injuries in 1986...Joe Montana will always be the best ever, period...

  • The reason why the Giants went to the Super Bowl is because they had a 14-2 record, and the 2nd ranked defense. Bears probably would've made it to the NFC title, but the Giants were the best team that year. And all those ints don't mean squat if you top it off with a 22-25, 3 touchdown, MVP performance in a SB.

49ers defense injured in 86? And yet that's the reason the 49ers offense could only muster up 3 points (again)? Or better yet, only 7 and 13 points respectively in the 90' season?

  • Your lucky the Bears lost to the deadskins...and Jim Mcmahon being the missing ingredient...lol...The Giants destroyed Joe Montana and John Elway...you think they were afraid of that loser. LMAO

I bet you think Rex GROSSman was good too.

  • Trivia question...on January 5th, 1986, how many points did the Giants score against the Bears? ZERRRRRRO!!!!

    21-0!!!! Love it!!!!Fuck the Giants....

  • Trivia question...January 13th, 1991. What was the final score of the Giants Bears Divisional playoff game.

Giants 31 Bears 3. Love it. Fuck the Bears

  • Add to the fact the Bears got stunned in 86 by the Redskins, got stunned again in 87 by the Redskins and got embarrassed in the 88 NFC championship and to top it all off...no playoffs in 89. The Bears should've won at least 3 superbowls with that team..sadly it wasn't meant to be.

  • You could tell that The Giants were on the verge of becoming a powerhouse after the 1984 season.

God that linebacking core KICKED ASS! Imagine that linebacking core with our D-Line today? Jesus

    GEEEEEEEEEEEEE-MEN BABY!!!

  • What killed the Giants against Bears in 85':

First, Rob Carpenters fumble after picking up a first down in Bear Territory on the first drive.

    Second, obviously Sena Landeta whiffing.

    Third, Eric Schubert sucked!!

  • i guess it was safe to say that the 49ers were still very much alive until the end.

  • i wouldnt remember a thing from when i was 5 years old and im 18.

  • i remember alot from when i was five. these Giant teams were one of them i went to the games

  • I was at this game...I was 5 years old at the time LOL.....I remember after the game, a 49er fan was in a port-o-potty, and a bunch of Giants fan knocked it over while he was inside of it LOL

  • Those were the good old days. now the crowd sucks

  • I cant stand the crowd at a Giants home game now, they so un-energetic, and boring, I have more fun going to away games, where Giants fans actually make noise.

  • tell me about it man. I go to all the games and they crowds suck for most of the games except for night games.you get the young crowds at the night games so its loud. but day games these old farts piss me off

  • well thats why Giants home games the place never really gets loud....you have all the old ass season ticket holders from the days of the polo grounds...which is cool, dont get me wrong, but I mean, they dont make any noise......i heard more noise from eagles fans at the playoff game than i did giants fans.......it was awful!! I had so much fun in Arizona at the Giants-cards game, loud crowd, energetic fans, and im talking about the Giants fans there!!

  • I do not understand why they played this game who ever won played the 15-1 Bears. As a 49er fan it was not a bad loss. Bill Parcless was quoted as saying about the 85 bears "an honest evaluation we could have beaten them 1 out of 10 times but that day was that one time" . The giants were in it and played the bears tough. The bears pass offense picked it up in the second half. mcmaon was the key to that victory, with that defense

  • Haha someone who calls himself "raider raider" is going to talk about the Giants? Last time I checked, and I check everyday, your team has blown for the last decade, and you haven't won the Super Bowl in nearly 30 years. You're a joke.

  • This is all the Giants can live on now - the past!

    Giants suck!

  • what your a raider fan, win more then 5 games then talk to me

  • And what the fuck are you talking about anyway, we won last year, won every playoff game on the road. and beat a team that was 18-0 in the super bowl. keep living 1983 over and over buddy

  • And they went to the great Midwest and got absolutely destroyed by Da Bears. Talk about fear--Parcells definitely feared Ditka, and the whole team feared that Bear defense.

  • What are you kidding me, the Bears got a gift got a Touchdown in that game when Landeta completely missed the ball on the punt and Shaun Gayle picked it up for an easy touchdown. the Giants were in that whole game, the Bears we just the better team, and how in the world could Parcells fear Ditka when we smacked the Bears ass in the 90s playoffs, so their you go, are you even a bears fan

  • I'm not even a Bears fan, but you're kidding if you think the Giants were ever in that game. Giants= 10 first downs, just 181 total yards, 32 rushing yards, lost time of possession battle 37 to 22 minutes, and shut out 21-0. That's some Bear domination.

  • They were in the game.who do you even root for,

  • man this is so great seeing these old giant videos brings back unbelievable memories

i remember i was watching this i was all of five years old hhaha ..thank you

  • Parcells was not just a better coach than Walsh..Walsh feared him. Parcells beat him 3x in the playoffs and Walsh layed down vs. the Rams in '88 so the Giants couldnt get in.

  • I don't know about all of that...Parcells only beat Walsh twice (1985 and 1986). The Giants beat George Seifert's 49ers in the 1990 NFC Championship. And the 49ers in 1988 had already clinched the NFC West and their playoff position, so there was nothing to play for against the Rams. I HATED the 49ers, but to say Walsh feared Parcells was a stretch. The Giants were in the playoffs in 1988 if they beat the Jets in week 16...and they blew it. The 49er game had nothing to do with that

  • GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!
