I remember studying this song for English class last year.
I had been a fan of Radiohead for a couple of years but I never really fully listened to this song like the others but I knew this song but I remember the overwhelming feeling I got when I read the lyrics the first time. I had to leave the classroom. A bit embarrassing, I must say, but I really couldn't take it all in with all these idiots around me laughing at it.
@YurzAndMyne yea those idiots are everywhere and l know the feeling. Schools are factories of idiocy and they create a culture of idiocy. I hate them for wasting so much time. glad you enjoy the lyrics...
I was fortunate enough to be there and it was simply astonishing, the weather was awful, stages were sinking but they managed to rise above it and blew everyone's minds. I love Radiohead and I don't think they will ever recreate the brilliance of OK Computer or even the Bends, but to put in to context how many bands could, genius is seldom general. And Thom Yorke actually doesnt want to.
haunting.. beautiful... hairs on your neck.... play again.. again.. again.... again..... and even tho its time for bed....just once more..... and again.... agai... ag...... fk..... time for work!
@Rixripter and what leads you to this conclusion? i personally like it when a live version replicates a studio version,,so are you saying its not a good live band or not a good live version..?please elaborate.."no no it really isn`t "doesn`t really cover it mate
I was at both and they sort of blur in to one. Both would be in my all time top 5 gigs along with Faithless and Massive Attack at the same event. God knows which years they were!! ;-)
man still in two minds over which glasto i prefer... i'm swaying towards this one atm, both are special performances i would love to here this song live one day.
2003 was all around better... this is a great version though. It is much softer and Thom's voice hasn't started to decline yet. It's sad to think that in 10 years he won't be able to sing falsetto
I think this is the best perfomance of Fake Plastic Trees. though a lot of people think Glastonbury 2003 is the best. but I prefer this one cause Thom`s voice is rough here and has more raw emotion, In my opinon. is there anyone who agrees with me?:)
03 better? not a chance. radiohead are quite simply the best band ever and this is their peak. the bends and ok computer are the nearest you will get to perfection musically as you can and with the mud and rain with thom singing rain down on me in paranoid android is magical
agree with ztoigo - 2003 version was better - even more explosive (not much in it). But u r also right in that this version was magical because it was so raw, as was the entire set. Legendary in the mud and rain, in adversity contending with the blown speakers; in some ways it was them at their peak, but of course their repetoire is more expansive now and more great songs. Highlights of 1997 for me: this, Planet Telex, Paranoid Android, just, High & Dry & Street Spirit (all better than in 2003)
I agree. Kid A is pretty much as "peak" as you can get. Yes, OK Computer was probably the most commercially acceptable album, but Kid A was a Work of Art.
@xsjb74x couldn't agree more, They are the modern day Beatles! Tbh i think they are up their with the best music i have ever heard! I dont think there is another band apart from the Beatles that you can compare them to! IMO
@xsjb74x too true mate! this is definitely the most epic, amazing gig and live performance iv ever witnessed...i'm proud to have lived in the same generation as these guys!
I've just had the best week. I went to see them in Victoria park London then a couple days later, flew out to Amsterdam to see them again. Oh my word what a gig! Going back to work tomorrow. F**K i wish i was a rock and roll star. Better still I wish I was in Radiohead, who have got to be one of the all time greatest bands. They blow Oasis and Blur out of the water, who as we all remember were the "big" bands at the time.
can download the hole set off classic bootlegs type in on google "classic bootlegs radiohead glastonbury" and it the first hit. just click tracks u want and u get them for free it brilliant
this song is a great fuking stuff, a marvelous sound... u guys just do not understand the real mean of that music, go listem "dj tiesco" and the happy lil dance music for empty horny girls like u all.
ace i was there n wen them fireworks went of it gave me goosebumps! glastonbury is the biggest n best festival in the world. ive bin 8 times the first was 93' seen radiohead there in 97' n 2003' love em 2 bits x
Thanks so much; I've had this on cassette tape since 97 and I've never seen the video for it!! Jonny's gentle guitar is amazing -- sounds like little rainbow-colored marbles rolling along a stream
you must remember that. it had been raining non stop. and the wind had been blowing mud and sand into all there equipment. in my opnion radioheads finest performance
the first song i ever learned to play with my guitar.. back in 2002 )))
