"...Follow the money..." (Deep Throat" Nixon whistle blower)...This isn't rocket science! WHO GOT FILTHY RICH? WHO really benefited? The dirt poor, and the rapidly, disappearing "Middle Class"? Really? We're doomed...
Hannity and Michael are wrong. The Fed is to blame on the financial crisis. Yes, the CRA, along with Bush's 2002 stimulus program where he pumped $400bn into the lending market. This pushed interest rates to the bottom, making the bubble to grow in a massive scale. What regulations and intervention does is interfering with the free market. Housing prices are in reality much lower, but are artificially boosted benefiting the banks and the government.
I have not heard of Alex Jones. I did look him up in Wikipedia after you mentioned his name. He seems to be on the same side of the fence as Michael and Jesse.
families need to support each stay under one roof save your money keep it stashed under the mattress. Go pay for the house in full and F--- the banks and financial institutions, Bloody crooks.
Loved the Young Turks the first time I saw them interviewing Jesse Ventura, love them now with Michael Moore. Wish all of America walked through life with eyes opened.
@Physhead if they validated their arguments with a clear bottomline i might begin to see it that way, but there is no bottomline, because TYT and michael moore are a vaccuous deceptive part of society who dont need to show a bottomline to pull the wool over your eyes. michael moore is a wealthy man likening himself to the poor man with the way he dresses so slovenly. the irony that he is using CAPITALISM, the thing he pretends to hate so much to become wealthy is what should open your eyes up.
@Physhead ive yet to vote in an election, this will be my first, but my father did. for the longest time growing up i hated my father for things like listening to rush limbaugh and fox news while my peers did nothing but berate anything they might have perceived as threatening. they listened to sources like these and jon stewart and other cool nonstressful media outlets. then i noticed that all of our parents were conservative while our young minds were raped by these guys. this isnt news.
@aeorta5 Ah, the innocence of youth. Aeorta5, you cannot judge a story by one side, nor can you know what a story is until you realize the MANY other stories that connect with the one you look at. When TYT interviews people like Michael Moore, they are assuming you have already been introduced to the other facets of the story. This is NOT a one dimensional debate. There are SO many twists and turns, it makes Hitchcock look like an amateur.
@Physhead when did i claim this to be one dimensional? yes yes clearly you think i watch fox news and regurgitate all of it, right? hardly, when i hear a debate i listen to every side that covers it, be them mainstream or otherwise. yes im young, but i can tell you beleive im naive because of what ive revealed about myself. yep. this is going to be fun. tell me sir, because i want to know how open your eyes are. have you ever heard of alex jones?
the only possible thing you can say was deregulated in banking was the repeal of glass steagall, and it's been pointed out that that repeal actually saved certain banks. merrill lynch would have gone under had BOA not bought them, which wouldn't've been allowed under glass steagall. the big investies - goldman sachs group, merrill, lehman bros, bear stearns, NONE of them had ties to commercial banks. allowing commercial+investment banks to merge had nothing to do with the crisis.
moore is not pointing out that not all the people who took out mortgages were poor. LOTS of them were middle-upper class people who took out 4+ mortgages and then decided not to pay them back after their property value dropped below the value of the loan. moore is also lying by saying the banking/financial industry was deregulated, regulation was increased MASSIVELY in the investment banking, securities, and lending industries, ask anyone who works in them. deregulation of banking? a joke!
carter's law had a lot to do with the crisis, because it was HEAVILY pushed from 2004-2008. citibank was sued under it. also, fannie and freddie made subprime investments a goal in their portfolios, and banks made loans they knew they could sell to those GSEs. not sure how that's the banks fault, the govt created an outlet for them to make a profit, so they took it. government is to blame primarily, number two would be irresponsible debtors
@Welsh77 If they Banks hadn't been taking out so many bets in the stock market and putting all our money at risk then this crash would never have happened, and btw, this crash is only a warm up, as of now there are still over 700, 000, 000, 000, 000 derivatives and credit default swaps in the market still waiting to collapse
@theoneilovemost putting our money at risk? that's what banks do, make investments, usually by lending it out.it's the only reason they exist. YOU put your money at risk when you deposited it into a bank. derivatives are not the problem, the underlying securities are, and the only problematic underlying securities were subprime loans. credit default swaps keep corporations in line, and encourage them not to loan out more money than they need to.
@theoneilovemost i dont understand how your question has anything to do with the points i made, but ill answer by simply stating the fact that the premise in the question is wrong. all of the stock brokers can explain what a derivative is, a credit default swap is simply a type of derivative. i don't know which ones you're asking, but whoever's passed the Series 7 securities exam should have at least a general understanding of derivatives.
@Welsh77 But these banks and institutions never inform anyone of this opinion, people should be given the opinion to invest their money or not, it should not be up to the profiteers
typical liberal moron-" the people that went and got mortgages for houses they couldnt afford are not at all to blame......they were deceived" This is amazing to me how ignorant a statement. The housing crisis was caused by the govt insisting bank give loans to people who couldnt afford it to make sure there was no racial profiling in approval/disapproval of loans. This commentator is an idiot. this moron's logic: a lazy kid that doesnt turn his work in at school and fails, blame the teacher
WOW, If i lived in USA and was aRepublican I would be praying this O reilly fraud and this hannity fella disappear from th epublic forum... terrible advert for their party
@Salvysahagun Your forgetting that Daddy Bush was president at that time, and him and Regan had 10 years to clean up legislation if that was the real cause
your are wrong, im a veiwer of all news, msnbc to fox, trust me swingin on micheal moores balls wont help your case in any way, his views and facts are as crooked as the editing room he owns, but i must say you have a good voice for sports
MOORE IS SUCH A GLUTINOUS PIG...HE'S GOTTEN FAT RICH OFF OF A BUNCH OF MISLEAD IGNORANT NEEDY IDIOTS..HE'S JUST LIKE ALL DEM LIB POLITICIANS...THEY ALL FEEDS OFF THE NEEDS AND WANTS OF DEAD BROKE LIB IDIOTS.
@No1Rides4Free at least he admits it, and at least he makes a fuss and try's to do something, more then almost any president since Eisenhower has done, so don't talk about something unless your going to look at all the facts
@theoneilovemost You might want to keep your comments to yourself..I'm embarrassed for you.Comments like yours only confirm my comments and thoughts .Moore doesn't care about you..what he cares about is making money off of your ignorance. Call his office and ask him for a loan and see how far you get..Then get back to me.
@No1Rides4Free Obviously your only thinking in terms of the monetary system, not surprising, don't worry most people do, i hope one day you'll wake up with the rest of society and realize how foolish you and everyone else has been for the past several decades to buy into this joke of an economic system, and people like Mr. Moore are trying to do just that, they waste their time & energy because they care, i just hope you have the will to over come your ego, my prayers are with you my friend
@theoneilovemost ARE YOU STALKING ME YOU FAG BASTARD !?..THIS FAT PIG BASTARD CARES ABOUT ABOUT ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY...PUTTING YOUR MONEY IN HIS POCKET SO HE CAN BUY ANOTHER MANSION,ANOTHER SUV TO HAUL HIS FAT GLUTINOUS ASS AROUND FROM PLACE TO PLACE AND MORE LOBSTER COVERED IN GALLONS OF BUTTER .."THAT'S" WHAT THAT FAT BASTARD CARES ABOUT...THIS FAG BASTARD "THEONEILOVEMOST" HAS A VID ON IT'S PAGE PARADING AROUND IN A DRESS WITH HAIRY LEGS..TAKE A LOOK PEOPLE ! AND I'M THE STUPID ONE ?
Ah, one of the prominent bastions of liberal ignorance and hypocrisy, Michael Moore. If Moore is such a fan of socialism and wealth redistribution, why doesn't he start with HIS OWN money? Oh, that's right, he's a CAPITALIST in practice and a SOCIALIST in theory! Redistribute the wealthy's money-- just not MINE! Now I gotta go back to court to try to regain that $3 million I lost...
I'm pretty sure Hannity said "borrowers" not poor people? I didn't realize poor people were the only ones getting loans.....At the end this guy says "he assumes everyone buying a house is well to do." So then really Hannity is blaming the "well to do" not the poor. Not sure what this moron is talking about.
you should appreciate liberals. they encourage harmony with republican assholes. liberals encourage tolerance of right wing pieces of fucking shit. REAL Americans would drive republicans into the ocean, except that liberals keep asking us to keep harmony and tolerance. republicans are unAmerican maggots. so when you bash michael moore you should remember , liberals are a buffer between real Americans and unAmerican republican cunts. you need that buffer. believe it. you really need liberals.
@beesleeper Sorry I guess you don't know what elaborate means, my bad, I overestimated you. I thought you were almost smart.....thats nice =/ I dont give two shits about Hannity or fox news
That was a really good Blaming the poor for the housing collapse is like implying that the POOR have enough economic worth to cause a meltdown of this magnitude. How utterly stupid!!!
It's sad that SOOOOO many Americans can't deduce that if a guy is saying one side is ALWAYS right, and the other side is ALWAYS wrong- He's full of shit.
@Jjohnson8850 Hahahahahaha, you should do stand-up. Moore may be overly dramatic, but Hannity is actually a fool who knows little to nothing about anything and shills for Republicans.
@Jjohnson8850 a badass that doesn't read his healthcare contract with the company he works for and then goes on to blame low income earners for not hiring a lawyer to read their mortgages and make sure it is in their best interest. Truly...... badass :/
I am not even half way through and need to interject. Clinton was the "Every American in a home" president. Of course it will take some time of foreclosures piling up before the whole housing market collapses. Yes, the rich did make a lot of money off of the collapse. Ever hear of a hedge fund? Now, the people that made money from hedge funds took a gamble with money they had. The people who bought houses that couldn't afford them, also took a gamble, with money that was borrowed.
The thing about commentators on either side of the extreme (from Shaun Hannity to Ed Helmes) is that they'll refuse to accept or give legitimacy to anyone else's opinions no matter how glaring the facts.
True, but lowering interest rates in an economic downturn is a lot different than doing it in good times. In good times, it creates bubbles and in bad times it just prevents deflation and helps stimulate the economy.
AMERICA as u call it is nothing but a joke now whatever the former generation created when men were real men U take a Shit upon cuz u make urself sick by ignoring this information and the once that do not take action defending the shit ur Fuckin advertizement calls the greatest country in the world needs to do what hemingway did now hemingway blew his brains out and u have the choice of killing those financial psychopaths in the white house or just fucking kill urselfs cuz ur making me Sick!
are u a real turk as in no typical Mixes in ur gene with irish scotish german origin cuz dont call urself a turk if ur just another american MIX and yeah u pussy ass americans have the balls to defend ur 1st or 2nd or whatever amendement that allows u to carry guns but u never decide to use those guns to kill someone like bush that is responsible for making people die in irak and america on a massive scale NO U DONT HAVE THE BALLS TO PICK THOSE WEAPONS UP AND KILL THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS
These Republicans only believe in personal responsibility; they don't feel government has no important role in our lives? They feel that government has no role in making the world a better place so why are there even people who decise to go into politics as Republicans? What are they adding to our lives? They don't seem to realize that the greed of the private sector will eat us alive if not regulated.
@libere A healthy economy relies on the people to make the right decisions, not the government. It is your responsibility to make sure you are not supporting companies that are showing greed. You have the free choice to do so. What many conservatives believe in is the people making the right decison ON THEIR OWN, which is the way it should be. Bad companies will sink as good companies will grow stronger. The govt is their to provide protection for the people by raising the military.
@AUSly09 What Fairy Tale book did you find that??? The corporate abuses in this world are ALL INTERTWINED - it would take years of studying and investigating to understand the ramifications of our dollars spent. We don't see the world wide slash and burn, environmental distruction and human degridation when we drink a latte or make a call with an iphone. If you're relaying on the public to see this stuff-it's over, The planet and the country will be distroyed- GREAT VALUES!
@AUSly09 Republicans believe in this "Markets will take care of themselves" Mythology- How much more history do we need to prove that Lazzie Faire doesn't work! Capitalism IS NOT A RELIGION FOLKS!!! You're not cursing God if you see some dangers in capitalism and realize it must be contained. Put the values of the Planet, and people both here and around the world before a dollar and you will start to get my position.
I don't feel sorry for people who live beyond their means and end up getting burned... and normally they just get burned without taking down the system, but it seems in American increasingly more and more people want to be in that class of living beyond their means.
first of all it takes 7 years min for our economy to feel a recession.
second, it is because of the bad loans that banks were forced to give that owners never paid back. it is that simple. people just want to point fingers and blame whoever they dont like.
there is not one good explanation on how bush caused the deficit!!!!!!
How about people? Free market does what it states, allows individuals to make decisions of their own. When enough people make the same bad decisions at the same time, the economy can't be good.
It's interesting how people on both sides of the argument likes to think that there is this ONE fool proof can't fail formula, and that is simply not true. In fact if there is a sure way to make money, then everyone would. But reality dictate that there will always be winners and losers.
Ok, so Moore says no... wow REAL DEEP Cenk. How about either of them cite example... at least Hannity said he had video. I can't stand bat brained idiots who try to encapsulate complex subjects in five second soundbites. Not saying Moore couldn't do that, clearly he can make a case, but stupid ass Cenk just cuts off the clip and has no justification Moore is right other than Hannity mocking (like a child might do).
Hannity is wrong in saying that CRA did it, but the sub prime market did do it and here is why. Beginning under the Clinton administration Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who are quasi-governmental companies created a lucrative source of capital for lenders who would go out and provide sub prime loans. Basically over the course of 10 years lenders got sub prime loans and sold them to Fannie and freddy and reaped massive profit. Sub Prime loans seemed safe because housing prices constantly went up.
this guy is an idiot who hosts Young Turks. Have you studied economics before? Don't make generalizations like "o why would it crash 30 years after Carter's law"-acting like that is so irrational. You do not understand economics-you are just taking a populist view.
@CBBBR that "idiot went to columbia law" and im guessing he studied economics a lot.... also...carters law had nothing to do with this. its just bull people use to protect the banks. i dont know why people cant see whats right in front of them but i guess day light is kind of blurry
REAL Free energy technology exists! But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the revolution!
Hannity was not "blaming the poor", in general. He was 1) Critisizing the fact that banks were FORCED to give loans for homes, to people that they KNEW would never be able to afford to pay it back. [in other words, critisizing the GOVERNMENT] and 2) He was advocating something called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for people who don't have enough money to pay a mortgage of repay a loan; it you can't afford to pay it back, DON'T BORROW IT!!!
Michael Moore is a proven LIAR. The Young Turks are morons.
@dslgunner1977 these banks wanted to give loans to people who couldnt afford their outrageous rates....they advertised on television every single day to get people who shouldnt do business with them...to get them into business with them. these banks knew exactly what was going to happen. it was clear as day to them. the leaders of these banks where actually sending emails to each other about how they knew this was going to happen...they chose all of this.
@Vengeance4Me79 Read what you posted again. Would you say that's the veiwpoint of a rational person? You must see conspiracies around every corner.... must be awful.
MM: "80% were swindled and lied to by banks/ lenders, because Bush disolved the white collar FBI task force". Let's half that is true, don't know about you but me and everyone I know had a lawyer when house was bought.
You can either afford or not afford a house (or anything), which I'm sure your lawyer explained. These people signed for the purchace without the means to pay back. There's plenty to blame on the CRA, Frank and Dodd that can not be denied. Govt intrusion at its finest.
Liberals living a lie. Don’t kid yourself, Liberals are using you just for your vote.
A false hope because you are nothing but a loser in life looking for the government to bail your ASS out. Now understand you have been used for many years, the Liberal party is nothing but a lie based on false hope the government will take care of you, America is based on conservative values and always will be. Obama told you what you wanted to hear to get elected. Obama not Liberal enough? Get it?
The real coalition was doing fine with two-No Fly and two No Drive Zones in keeping Sadaam in check, Bush and his cronies fraudulently claimed we were all going to disappear in a mushroom cloud. Fear mongering which also lead to Al-Qaeda in Iraq.
@Vengeance4Me79 the sort of reply one would expect from someone who think's the Jew's are responsible for everything . in other word's a poorly educated cretin.
In comparison to all the times Moore has appeared on Fox news this interview isn't one of the most blatantly obvious cases of him "owning" the newscaster. Regardless when he is being reserved like this he still reminds you why Fox rarely ever has interviewees susceptible to bullying on their news program like this one or O'Reilly's. Love him or hate him(Personally I love'em) no one can deny that he is a master at turning the tools on Fox transparent and then into rubble.
The rich definately had something to do with it, but it was also the poors fault. They shouldn't have taken loans they couldn't have paid, the banks shouldn't have made loans they knew people couldn't pay.
The poors fault doubtful, poor folks without a house will take the best bet possible for their families predator banks know this. The also tricked elderly people out of their houses as well. I'm sorry but lower class people are not intelligent enough nor do they have the capital both in money and political capital to pull off such an enormous robbery and crash of the system.
Poor people Use power as well, but you don't blame them for blackouts, they only know how to turn the on and off switch.
@spinnersmetal "the banks shouldn't have made loans they knew people couldn't pay". That makes perfect sense. Remember 30% down requirement? CRA, a true Carter brainstorm... tweeked and pushed to the limit. Oh, and thanks Barney Frank for your testimony everything was peachy...... prior to the bubble bursting.
This was an economic 911. The people who did this (the banks and the rating agencies) are econmic terrorists - Al Bankquada.
Perhaps if we started talking about it for what it is/was, an economic attack, then maybe we could actually do something about it. The purpose of guys like Hannity, FOX et al, is to keep the focus of the Al Bankquada and to prevent the question - was that an orchestrated economic attack by the banks?
Hannity does not care about ordinary american citizens, the guy only cares about is his retarded republican buddies. I dont understand why both sides of the political spectrum have to keep blaming the other, everyone knows both are at fault no one is free of blame here, they really need to work together for the good of the american people and for the good of the country to fix this wrong, I just hope the republicans can Say "YES" every once in a while like FINANCIAL REFORM
exactly Sean is a Jerk ass, Sean sucks azz, the poor had nothing to do with it, it WAS THE BANS FAULT, and people should get justice for the wrong doing that has been done to them
Really Cenk? You think that this changed a repubs mind? I don't. Not for a second. How many times are repubs presented with facts, undeniable proof but they continue to deny it anyway. And it's not just with this issue, but dozens and dozens of issues in which the facts are presented but are rejected anyway, totally dismissed without a second thought.
There is no one single person to blame. The bad policies did start in the Carter admin, but continued with every admin. EVERYONE was greedy Wall Street the Banks Government and homeowner, you dont need a lawyer to tell you if you can afford a home or not. People took loans they couldnt afford in hopes of making a buck and banks made loans to people who couldnt afford them in hopes of making a buck. As long as real estate values went up it all worked like a ponzi scheme. EVERYONE is to blame.
I used to be a huge hannity fan. The guy is clueless. To say poor people caused this financial mess is insane! Someone not being able to pay their mortgage and defaulting is not the problem. The problem was aig sold trillions worth of credit default swaps, and when the bet went against them, they had to pay out to all the investment houses. They didn't have the money, hence the bailout. Hannity is clueless. The problem was moody's grading everything AAA yet nobody talks about this.
Cenk and many other liberals, myself included, fully acknowledge Clinton's major role in deregulation. The point in this video is that Fox News wants to blame the poor almost exclusively which is just factually wrong on all levels. And why does Fox want to do this? Because they're republicans! Deregulation is a conservative philosophy! Clinton was part of the problem, but the whole idea of deregulation belongs to the republicans, That's why Hannity is being as obtuse as he is.
fiscal conservatism means regulation, not deregulation. rouge members of both parties are responsible. it is not a republican concept. and i doubt that hannity is a republican. there are all actors pushing whatever who pays them wants.
I agree they are all actors, though there is no doubt whatsoever deregulation IS a republican policy. It was one of Conservative Saint Ronald Reagan's core positions. It is not related to fiscal conservatism, per se, as that is dealing with government spending. It is part of the "free market" philosophy regarding the private sector that the mainstream Republican establishment have used as one of their main economic policies for generations now. There is no denying in this.
It is how they set themselves apart from Democrats. When Democrats attempt any form of regulation, why is it that Republicans freak out and scream "SOCIALISM!!"? Because they're policy is to regulate as well? No, because they want lax laws on major corporations so they can do whatever they want. While both democratic and republican presidents of the past 3 decades created this mess, the rotten philosophy behind it all belongs solely to the republicans.
Moore was right and Hannity couldn't lie his way out of it. Thats why he never has anyone on his show that is smarter than he. Because he cant handle the truth and cant spin his way out of it. Notice that when Moore tried to explain it to him in laymen's term, so his pee size brain could understand, he quickly tried to change the subject? Sure sign of someone losing a debate.
i truely can't believe that cenk thought moore had a good point when he said "why didn't the crash happen in 1978?". WOW, you don't have to know very much about of economics to know that bubbles don't expand and crash in one year. it takes many many years for that to happen, and that was just the beginning. Hannity is a fool too, to try to say it was only democrats when republicans played just as much of a role.
But i thought cenk was smarter than that. and should know more about housing.
Michael Moore does make several good points. I am surprised to see that because he usually so far off, it is rediculous. What a complete humorless asshole with TYT. It's absolutely nauseating to watch this prick!
yah its great that Moore came on Hannity's show, but i don't think it will make a difference to fox news viewers. regardless of whatever Moore says, the fox viewers have been so brainwashed against him, all they see is a fat bastard that wants socialized medicine, so he must be irrelevant
@jumar1281 such a good point... when you're raised in that environment that's exactly the way you think- they'll always see him the same way and disregard any facts that he brings to the table.
It was also the Democrats pushing for things like the Community Reinvestment Act which encouraged banks to give out loans to people who couldn't afford them. It was designed to help low-income people, but they apparently forgot that low-income people have low income.
@SENTRY000: The Arm wasn't broken before Bush got in office. We were on schedule to have a trillion dollar surplus in 2004. So not only did Bush blow a trillion he wiped out the trillion we were supposed to have.
In both the Clinton admin. and the first term of Bush, we saw a economic surpus under a Republican Congress and sometimes a Republican Senate.
In 2006, when Democrats took over, they and ACORN pressure banks to give out loans to low-income folks in order to raise living conditions. Needless to say, someone making $10k a year can't pay back $1M.
So, let's view our facts; Republican Congress - Surplus, Democrat Congress; Recession.
@SENTRY000 To put federal reserve as one of primary scape goats is faulty. Lowering of interest rates can only worsen a bubble so much. The bubble was inevitable due to the nature of....BUBBLES.
What DIRECTLY caused the crisis, however, were big wall street institutions that knowingly rated subprime mortgages as AAA, and then proceed to sell these to multiple of institutions across the financial intermediaries, in packages. The more these changed hand, the more their effect multiplied...
Mikey really tries hard to make you think we have capitalism in America still. Capitalism's is what America is now. Mom and Pop would be a great way to understand Capitalism but when you cannot even open a mom and pop over !Mart stores and such you cannot compete. Therefore we have NO capitalism left.
We would have capitalism in America yet if the big corporations hadn't bought out the politicians and slanted the laws in their favor. Mom and pop businesses have a much tougher time now than decades ago. I remember well.
Okay, so if you sign your name...just because you ddin't read the contract....it's not your responsibility?? There has been shit that goes down on both sides....the banks have lent when they shouldn't have, the poor should have read their contracts, etc. I love how the YT thinks MM has really won this one...for w/e reason. As far as I was concerned, MM didn't really have a valid point this time. :(
Moore needs to lose some fucking weight how many starving fucking Africans could his fat ass stomach feed? Fuck this liberal shit you lazy useless mother fuckers want my wealth? Take it you second rate Americans, we didnt win this country by lazy cowards we won it men who were hard and fierce where are you mother fuckers now? It is time these liberals get the raping coming to them, fuck em fuck their useless kids, parents all of you, you are useless worthless pop trash. I said it bitch.
the bank lent money; they KNEW that the people could not pay back sooner or later but they didn t care.
Who is reponsible: the bank who lent money or the victim who borrowed.
I say both are responsible, There should be strict regulation on lending money buying with credits; But with the current capitalism system everyone lives on credit and this is crazy.
It will crash again soon: China India... can not save the world forever.
Yes, if you don't want to get screwed in this contract you need a lawyer, accountant, mortgage specialist. And I bet a lot of these home buyers did get someone to help them, and they still lose out. And mortgage contract is not ironclad!!! Some rates and payments are subject to changes.
Lastly, these people cannot payments because of the downturn and unemployment.
Hannity just want to shout down Moore. "FBI, who the heck are they? Why are they investigating white collar crime? It's absurd!"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why is The Young Turd" talking he is making himself part of a conversation he was never invited to? Hey, by the way, if you think MM or young turd is correct and you shouldn't read be fore you buy and you will spend over $100,000.00 with out reading the contract, please email me and by my house I also have a bridge 4 sale too. Ha Ha, you are retarded! Find a new hobby you suck again!
OK. Nothing is more repulsive than blaming the subprime crisis on the poor. But at some point people have to grow up and start being adults. You really want the government to hold your hand your whole life? It's a treacherous world out there. Wake up and be on your guard...you ARE the captain of your ship. READ the contract. ASK advice from a friend, family member or colleague. Don't go into these transactions blind.
greed will always be greed and produce monopoly. Ive always wondered how and why americans adore the ones with the power? monopoly was a problem in communism and is a problem in capitalism. Thats why this film is important!
Hannity has nothing on his mind but insisting on his ignorance. The fact is that the housing/banking crisis has been bubbling for over a decade and the (R) brought no legislation to the house THEY controlled to correct a policy from 30 damn years ago-let alone they blocked Barney Frank 3 times from regulating Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. I can't believe Michael didn't mention Bush raising the leverage from 10x to 40x nor did he correct his lie by stating the CRA only encouraged and NOT demanded risks

Physhead 2 months ago
@Physhead when did i claim this to be one dimensional? yes yes clearly you think i watch fox news and regurgitate all of it, right? hardly, when i hear a debate i listen to every side that covers it, be them mainstream or otherwise. yes im young, but i can tell you beleive im naive because of what ive revealed about myself. yep. this is going to be fun. tell me sir, because i want to know how open your eyes are. have you ever heard of alex jones?
aeorta5 2 months ago
the only possible thing you can say was deregulated in banking was the repeal of glass steagall, and it's been pointed out that that repeal actually saved certain banks. merrill lynch would have gone under had BOA not bought them, which wouldn't've been allowed under glass steagall. the big investies - goldman sachs group, merrill, lehman bros, bear stearns, NONE of them had ties to commercial banks. allowing commercial+investment banks to merge had nothing to do with the crisis.
Welsh77 5 months ago
moore is not pointing out that not all the people who took out mortgages were poor. LOTS of them were middle-upper class people who took out 4+ mortgages and then decided not to pay them back after their property value dropped below the value of the loan. moore is also lying by saying the banking/financial industry was deregulated, regulation was increased MASSIVELY in the investment banking, securities, and lending industries, ask anyone who works in them. deregulation of banking? a joke!
Welsh77 5 months ago
carter's law had a lot to do with the crisis, because it was HEAVILY pushed from 2004-2008. citibank was sued under it. also, fannie and freddie made subprime investments a goal in their portfolios, and banks made loans they knew they could sell to those GSEs. not sure how that's the banks fault, the govt created an outlet for them to make a profit, so they took it. government is to blame primarily, number two would be irresponsible debtors
Welsh77 5 months ago
@Welsh77 If they Banks hadn't been taking out so many bets in the stock market and putting all our money at risk then this crash would never have happened, and btw, this crash is only a warm up, as of now there are still over 700, 000, 000, 000, 000 derivatives and credit default swaps in the market still waiting to collapse
theoneilovemost 5 months ago
@theoneilovemost putting our money at risk? that's what banks do, make investments, usually by lending it out.it's the only reason they exist. YOU put your money at risk when you deposited it into a bank. derivatives are not the problem, the underlying securities are, and the only problematic underlying securities were subprime loans. credit default swaps keep corporations in line, and encourage them not to loan out more money than they need to.
Welsh77 5 months ago
@Welsh77 Then why is it that none of the stock brokers on Wall Street can explain what a derivitive or credit default swap is?
theoneilovemost 4 months ago
@theoneilovemost i dont understand how your question has anything to do with the points i made, but ill answer by simply stating the fact that the premise in the question is wrong. all of the stock brokers can explain what a derivative is, a credit default swap is simply a type of derivative. i don't know which ones you're asking, but whoever's passed the Series 7 securities exam should have at least a general understanding of derivatives.
Welsh77 4 months ago
@Welsh77 But these banks and institutions never inform anyone of this opinion, people should be given the opinion to invest their money or not, it should not be up to the profiteers

True, but lowering interest rates in an economic downturn is a lot different than doing it in good times. In good times, it creates bubbles and in bad times it just prevents deflation and helps stimulate the economy.

They feel that government has no role in making the world a better place so why are there even people who decise to go into politics as Republicans? What are they adding to our lives? They don't seem to realize that the greed of the private sector will eat us alive if not regulated.
libere 11 months ago
@libere A healthy economy relies on the people to make the right decisions, not the government. It is your responsibility to make sure you are not supporting companies that are showing greed. You have the free choice to do so. What many conservatives believe in is the people making the right decison ON THEIR OWN, which is the way it should be. Bad companies will sink as good companies will grow stronger. The govt is their to provide protection for the people by raising the military.

first of all it takes 7 years min for our economy to feel a recession.
second, it is because of the bad loans that banks were forced to give that owners never paid back. it is that simple. people just want to point fingers and blame whoever they dont like.
there is not one good explanation on how bush caused the deficit!!!!!!
X45sweetie54X 1 year ago
@X45sweetie54X That's obviously false. We feel the recession when it happens. Why do you claim there is a 7 year delay? Where do you get this from?
BillHicks420 11 months ago
How about people? Free market does what it states, allows individuals to make decisions of their own. When enough people make the same bad decisions at the same time, the economy can't be good.
It's interesting how people on both sides of the argument likes to think that there is this ONE fool proof can't fail formula, and that is simply not true. In fact if there is a sure way to make money, then everyone would. But reality dictate that there will always be winners and losers.

Sub Prime loans seemed safe because housing prices constantly went up.

pooniska 1 year ago
I used to be a huge hannity fan. The guy is clueless. To say poor people caused this financial mess is insane! Someone not being able to pay their mortgage and defaulting is not the problem. The problem was aig sold trillions worth of credit default swaps, and when the bet went against them, they had to pay out to all the investment houses. They didn't have the money, hence the bailout. Hannity is clueless. The problem was moody's grading everything AAA yet nobody talks about this.

Cenk keeps on acting like this is a republican thing. both parties did the deregulating.
marvelous2055 1 year ago
Cenk and many other liberals, myself included, fully acknowledge Clinton's major role in deregulation. The point in this video is that Fox News wants to blame the poor almost exclusively which is just factually wrong on all levels. And why does Fox want to do this? Because they're republicans! Deregulation is a conservative philosophy! Clinton was part of the problem, but the whole idea of deregulation belongs to the republicans, That's why Hannity is being as obtuse as he is.
blankportraits 1 year ago
fiscal conservatism means regulation, not deregulation. rouge members of both parties are responsible. it is not a republican concept. and i doubt that hannity is a republican. there are all actors pushing whatever who pays them wants.
marvelous2055 1 year ago
I agree they are all actors, though there is no doubt whatsoever deregulation IS a republican policy. It was one of Conservative Saint Ronald Reagan's core positions. It is not related to fiscal conservatism, per se, as that is dealing with government spending. It is part of the "free market" philosophy regarding the private sector that the mainstream Republican establishment have used as one of their main economic policies for generations now. There is no denying in this.
blankportraits 1 year ago
It is how they set themselves apart from Democrats. When Democrats attempt any form of regulation, why is it that Republicans freak out and scream "SOCIALISM!!"? Because they're policy is to regulate as well? No, because they want lax laws on major corporations so they can do whatever they want. While both democratic and republican presidents of the past 3 decades created this mess, the rotten philosophy behind it all belongs solely to the republicans.
blankportraits 1 year ago
Giving loans to unqualified is only one part of the problem. A government that serves, ultimately, the rich, is the problem.

I like how Hannity says, " I used to be poor. I used to live in APARTMENTS!" Hilarious. He doesn't know what poor is..

yeah I live in an appartment also I guess im poor :(

@jumar1281 You're 100% on that evaluation of fox viewers!

@jumar1281 such a good point... when you're raised in that environment that's exactly the way you think- they'll always see him the same way and disregard any facts that he brings to the table.

I don't usually criticize bush but he did cause this to happen. oh and lets not forget the federal reserve.
They lowered interest rates to 1 percent and created the bubble.
Now Obama is just continuing bushes policies on a grander scale by stimulating he economy. its a band aid on a broken arm.
SENTRY000 2 years ago 21
It was also the Democrats pushing for things like the Community Reinvestment Act which encouraged banks to give out loans to people who couldn't afford them. It was designed to help low-income people, but they apparently forgot that low-income people have low income.
zeecee1 2 years ago
@SENTRY000: The Arm wasn't broken before Bush got in office. We were on schedule to have a trillion dollar surplus in 2004. So not only did Bush blow a trillion he wiped out the trillion we were supposed to have.
langs13 1 year ago
Oh the money is still there he just took it away from America and gave it to Halliburton and Wallstreet.
Faelsun 1 year ago
@SENTRY000 Bush started the recession, huh?
In both the Clinton admin. and the first term of Bush, we saw a economic surpus under a Republican Congress and sometimes a Republican Senate.
In 2006, when Democrats took over, they and ACORN pressure banks to give out loans to low-income folks in order to raise living conditions. Needless to say, someone making $10k a year can't pay back $1M.
So, let's view our facts; Republican Congress - Surplus, Democrat Congress; Recession.
Facts rule again.

@SENTRY000 Bush didn't 'cause' this, he allowed it. Regan CAUSED this to happen.

@SENTRY000 The stimulation did work
BillHicks420 11 months ago
@SENTRY000 To put federal reserve as one of primary scape goats is faulty. Lowering of interest rates can only worsen a bubble so much. The bubble was inevitable due to the nature of....BUBBLES.
What DIRECTLY caused the crisis, however, were big wall street institutions that knowingly rated subprime mortgages as AAA, and then proceed to sell these to multiple of institutions across the financial intermediaries, in packages. The more these changed hand, the more their effect multiplied...
BillHicks420 11 months ago
Mikey really tries hard to make you think we have capitalism in America still. Capitalism's is what America is now. Mom and Pop would be a great way to understand Capitalism but when you cannot even open a mom and pop over !Mart stores and such you cannot compete. Therefore we have NO capitalism left.
Sheeple101 2 years ago
We would have capitalism in America yet if the big corporations hadn't bought out the politicians and slanted the laws in their favor. Mom and pop businesses have a much tougher time now than decades ago. I remember well.

Okay, so if you sign your name...just because you ddin't read the contract....it's not your responsibility?? There has been shit that goes down on both sides....the banks have lent when they shouldn't have, the poor should have read their contracts, etc. I love how the YT thinks MM has really won this one...for w/e reason. As far as I was concerned, MM didn't really have a valid point this time. :(

the bank lent money; they KNEW that the people could not pay back sooner or later but they didn t care.
