  • These are my favourite old birds, Air Canada DC9's and 727's are what I grew up with, I'll always love the old school 60's jets the most.

  • i LOVE the powerback! too bad they dont use it more often...

  • Does this ever bring back memories! Thanks for sharing.

  • ok r yu a flight marshall or something?

  • i have been one from indianaapolis to MSP

  • i heard they stopped doing power pushbacks to save fuel. like a year ago

  • This means they use the thrust reversers to taxi out of the gate right?

  • low bypass rocks

  • Dude, I flew from Milwaukee to Detroit on a DC9-50 and had the same seat number and also took video of the take-off and landing. When I saw this and our seats were the same I grabbed my boarding pass and checked just to make sure. Pretty strange! And yes it was LOUD sitting just in front of the engine...

    (on 8-24-08)

  • no- there is more then 7 DC 9's in service

  • way more, unless he/she is talking about NWA

  • You took off on the longest runway of the airport. I can tell because I reconise the airport and I learn where the longest runway is.

  • lo i have 25 DC9 rides on my life and only one on B727 JT8D power Bitchessss

  • I wonder why they don't do power backs any more. It couldn't waste that much gas or anything.

  • I have to fly again on a dc-9 because i love them and pretty soon there being replaced with a new plane called ERJ IT'S GAY DC-9'S ROCK!!!

  • I have never experienced a powerback

  • They don't do powerback's anymore

  • Good video.

  • I like the Beethoven in your clips: tastefully done and very appropriate!!

  • We are going to Disney and my almost 9 year old daughter has never flown before (we have 4X already) so this was so neat for her to actually experience take off and all the noise that goes with it! Love love love the engine whine of this plane! This is the greatest vid! THANK you for the memories!

  • Northwest must throw money at those crates to keep them airworthy. I guess there isn't going to be a shortage of DC9 airframes they can canibalise for parts so maybe it works......

  • Very cool, brings memories back!

  • Don't be sorry for the engine noise. That's the best part of the DC-9. Great video!

  • The airplane is just doing its job.

  • is the dc9 the most noisyest of all airplanes

  • Actually I think is the MD-80. The big brother of the DC-9. I love that JT8D Engines, the best of the best.

  • Thanks...Great that we still have some "classic" jetliners still flying....DC-9s are the DC-3s of the jet age....Great airframes that apparently will last forever

  • I love the microphone-recorded-sound during the start^^

  • start '?? that was a powerback :p

  • Nice video!

Is it just me, or was the plane able to taxi on idle thrust during the FA's briefing? I didn't hear any thrust increases until just after the briefing...

  • I think it was just a coincidence.

  • alot of times the pilots use acceleration to move and let the weight of the plane slow it down and then accelerate again to keep this practice keeps the brakes cool. If the load is light and the engines are idling high enough it is possible to coast from the gate with out advancing the thrust levers.
