  • Eitherway, I'm pretty sure Mariah does it normally by exhaling but reverse phonation is another way to achieve it I suppose XD

  • I've actually been doing this for a while but thanks for explaining how it works. :)

  • Aww man, i can do this perfect while inhaling...but end up coughing and chokjng when i try to go up my range

  • @Wings0fFeathers coughing or choking using indicates too much air inhaled.

  • @Wings0fFeathers coughing or choking using indicates too much air inhaled.

  • I still don't understand, how do you make a sound while inhaling? Please help

  • @esye36 there is no way you cannot make a sound while inhaling, just try making that sound louder and say words to make it more clear.

  • @wovuween147 I can't go any higher in regular phonation

  • I've been doing this for a month, no changes. Why is this?

  • @codelyokoist vocalization is individual, you will have to be more specific with the problems you are having.

  • Is this safe?

  • @codelyokoist safe and effective!!! it gives you a smooth voice over time.

  • I always did this when I was humming notes out of my range (baritone). All of my friends thought it was weird I can inhale my notes. Now I know I'm not the only one, and that other people do it. :D

  • @NotSansReason works like magic!!!! Luv this exercise.

  • How am I supposed to position my mouth when I do this, when I sing in my normal voice I start choking at D5 but when I use this technique I can hit an A5

  • I wanted to try this but I'm afraid people might hear me and think I'm crazy.

  • i can't do this :( im trying but i cannot ;(

  • @HEARTOFICE2693 You have to try with alittle bit of air. This technique is probably the hardest to master so don't be discouraged, give your voice time and keep trying. I promise you'll get it.

  • right now after i did the SLS exercise, my vocal cords felt like I strain them a little bit and i m resting my voice today, i do some vocal fry because it suppose to fix the voice and relax it, i avoid talking.

  • this is great tip and great videos u have make here. I was wondering if u are a voice teacher as well.

With reverse phonation i go to my whistle but i am confused. I feel like i have 3 diferrent whistle voices, one is easy but it gets out when i have a cold or when i have completely rest my voice for a really long time, the second is when i do the vocal fry or the reverse phonation, and the third is when i lower my larynx and i go "o" like seth riggs says in one of his exercises.

  • Thanks. Hey, did you know that you're a genius?

  • @minus30outside thanks, check out the website for more tricks.

  • how can I add an airy texture on my whistle register?( just like Mariah did in Bliss)

how can I produce an "Hugh" breathe before the whistle like when Mariah Carey do when she whistles the word "high" in the song emotions? because when I try to imitate it and say the "high" in whistle ,I can only do it like "ayy"

  • @PeeWeestle To do high you have to morph the word to hey then work it back it "i" for high. that should help

  • Why do I cough a lot when doing this?

  • @ThereturnofScreaming coughing can stem from a number of causes but principally it indicates that you are inhaling with too much force. If you lighten the pressure that you inhale at, it should alleviate this problem. Then, as time passes, you can increase the pressure and subsequently the amount of air that your chords can handle. Also, you may be coughing because of the kind of air you are inhaling like pollen, something your allergic too and more. Make sure its clean air steam is very good...

  • Does this mean that with enough practice mean that you can sing the same you breathe in that you breathe out with enough practice on this?

and is this dangerous in any way, can you please reply in a message

    thanks

  • @11lilrambo11 this is not dangerous in anyway, just don't inhale to hard.

  • I am glad you posted this as I may want to share this with other folks because sometimes they don't understand reverse intonation (or phonation as you state). What is interesting about this process is that it helps you get higher with normal intonation.

    chris

  • @mradaChris Your welcome. You should check out the website.....it has a lot more tips and invaluable tricks....all free........thanx for the comment.

  • @wovuween147 I just did and a lot of the links are broken (file not found).

I'll see what else you have here on YT

  • what about breathing, it feels awkward

  • @stebolian don't breathe too much, it will put too much pressure on the chords. Let the breath be light and easy

  • @wovuween147 thanks alot for replying. Yes everything is clear lol. Now, the mum, mum, mum and gee, gee, gee exercises etc, should they also be done whiny? And is all the exercises you posted on youtube sufficient for complete vocal training or is there more to learn? Thanks again...

  • @EbieApple yes there is alot more to learn...I haven't had the time to put up more videos....but I wil. Mum mums and gees must be done with a doppy voice or in other words a low larynx. That will give your voice the greatest release.

  • @wovuween Just wanna say thanks alot for the videos. I'm sure it'll help me alot. Now, just to clear things, is this reverse phonation for the high notes just to train your vocal folds? When you sing in the whistle register the air should be flowing out right?

  • @EbieApple it is for training your vocal folds, making transitions easier, ease tension, sing high easier, and much more. When you sing whistle the air is being exhaled. when you are training with this exercise the air is being inhaled. Everything clear?

  • You can reach the eight octave? Then you're a record breaker. Go to Guinness. I'd love to see you break the C#8 record.

  • I dont need reverse intonation to reach F#7.Hey maybe if i try it now i can reach the eight octave!

  • @ASSHOLELA yea it helped me reach my eighth octave. It really takes patience to sing that high. Good luck

  • i love this technique

    i just reached G#7 with it ^^

  • keep it up you will train yourself to sing off of the piano. that is what I am working on doing now

  • do you have more tips or pages that help to learn this? it's hard to breath when you try to make this really high notes

  • don't suck in to much. Do it gradually. if you have trouble connecting then keep your inhales short. with your mouth open long like a fish. let your inhales be like very gentle short quick pants. Let me know if you get it

  • do you cough when you breathe in and try to go higher? Like When I'm inhaling, and I go up like above c I start coughing. when it starts getting scratchy. sucking in....

and I feel like these whistle tones are just me squeaking... not actually notes... Do you know how to help me?

  • that indicates you are sucking in to hard and with too much air; inhale softer. it should not hurt

  • this is really helping me. THANK YOU.

  • I did it when I was a kid.. got higher than a dolphine, make people say WoW, that's all..

  • the fuck is this shit?

  • reverse phonation is an exercise developed to coordinate the vocal chords of a singer who may have trouble in his or her range. It works for anyone

  • omg thank you so much for this! I really really appreciate ! I'm definitely going to start watching your videos from now on!

  • I'll give it a try. This does look interesting!

  • It works wonders when used consistently, let me know if you have trouble. P.S. there is lots more where that came from
