I agree with the both above comments...you CAN'T even put Coldplay and the House of Love in the same league! I remember first hearing Coldplay and right away thinking "who are these LAMEASSES trying to use the House of Love sound....Its like a bad version and they SUCK!" hahaha
I saw them and heard them for the first time in 1997 at St Andrews hall in Detroit, they are so cool and under rated. Love them to this day. I can;t stop listening to them.
I discovered them late and followed them till their ends... the latest album was okai, no disgrace for a band reunited. I called them white boy pop with soul and people laughed. I don't know how else yo describe them: "Indie" seems like a blanket slur.
@wwwtherockernl - what do you mean - 20+ yrs down the line and their music is just as relevant as it was then. and to those comparing hol to coldplay...really???
For those who reads, this go and buy this bands catalog right away. You will not be disappointed! This band had everything except ....much deserved success! HOL if you read this-I want to know it's not the quantity of the fans but the passion of the fans for the music you produce!
I saw Chadwick at that Cure thing in London when they had that stupid big lake in front of the stage. He had his black and white stripey top on. I walked past him and said alright mate.
Worst Cure gig ive ever been to - and it was windy
It was at the Brighton Top Rank Suite (I think it changed its name to the Event - don't know what it is called now) and I was there! They were amazing.
I don't get these comparisons - why do people always feel the need to do this? Coldplay don't come close to The House of Love in any respect - Guy Chadwick was never considered "good looking" and did not have to marry an American Actress for people to love him - he just wrote some of the best songs you will ever hear
I'm with olliesdrunk on this. Saying that HOL paved the way for Coldplay is like saying that without Public Enemy, we would never have had the pleasure of hearing Gareth Gates and his ilk. (A) it's just wrong and (B)if it were true, it's not something that should be applauded.....
coldplay is monotonous garbage which suits the plain and homogenous people nowdays. just your average joe music. where as this whimp rock at least is different. i never knew these guys when i was a kid i found them by accident trying to find another song and think they are awesome. i love you
@dommywaddle go to the top of the class. i saw coldplay at the bigdayout in perth when 'yellow' came out (ok, it was ages ago), the crowd stood there til it came on then left to go hear..erm, oh i dont remember..maybe, new order!
What an awesome song! I stumbled across this band by accident. They once played a tiny clip of "Christine" on the British comedy show "Trigger Happy TV," and it took me forever to figure out who sang it.
Yes, Coldplay do sound like HOL, I didn't think anyone else noticed. HOL are far far superior obviously but there is a similarity. How exiting they are in comparison to the dour 'Oldpaly boys.
Did Guy Chadwick, when he finally grew into his face become Gordon Ramsay?

The Coldplay comparison only works as far as both have a lead singer that crawled up his own arse and became a complete fucking tool.

The HOL did some great tunes and this demonstrates how they could kick it live too, but Guy Chadwick always was a dick. Levitation proved that point.

I never realised Guy Chadwick was so eloquent.

Brilliant! Probably the best British rockband around 1990. Coldplay? This is twice as fast and as good as anything by C.

Has anyone noticed this man to child song has the same
melody as 'shine on' just a lot slower? Still nice tho.

It's not just nostalgia, these were great days. When real-indie bands like HOL were around, even Snub TV was cool.

Too right. House of Love and Coldplay? Nothing in common. One is cracking indie music and the other is wimp rock.
