This is a surefire contender for worst movie of all time. You know a movie is bad when all the scenes that contain any kind of action (or lack thereof, in the case of Horror of the Blood Monsters) are stock footage from other movies. Amazing how Z-grade movie directors were still getting mileage out of One Million B.C. stock footage even in 1970.
The black and white Filipino cave man movie footage around which this was built was filmed in 1956. The main space expedition footage was shot in 1966. Additional footage was shot between 1966-69 to explain the chromatic radiation (the original plan was to tint it all red but this caused the test audience to fall asleep), and then the shot the vampire footage at the very end. Finally, footage from 1940's "One Million BC" was used as scenes taken from other movies.
Wow,first saw this at the drive-in Summer of 1970.Then I watched it again on tv as VAMPIRE MEN OF THE LOST PLANET.Finally in 1982 at a dusk to dawn five feature drive-in spooktacular I saw the film yet again under the title NIGHT OF THE HOWLING BEASTS. Fun times!
1970? The music and look of most of the footage (obviously from other movies) looks so much older. And is there a movie John Carradine HASN'T been in? Geez!
Its rather sad Alan Adamson was himself killed by a foreman doing renovations to his house and buried in the living room. Now he can never make a comeback only in our hearts.
cool, what a privilege, I enjoyed his movies immensely. That scumbag foremanm recently they had the incident on a crime show on pay tv here in Aust. The bastard almost got away with it.
kinda. the bulk of the footage is from a 1965 filipino caveman movie that al bought, and then shot additional footage for using some of his cast regulars. i think the "dinosaur" footage was borrowed from yet another film. the actual movie is a lot more confusing than the trailer makes it out to be! you can find more details by checking the IMDb, or the site DVD Drive-In (not my site, btw. look for a link from the external reviews page of HORROR's IMDb entry)...
The dinosaur footage is from Hal Roache's 1940's movie "One Million B.C." That footage has been recycled by tons of no budget movies (such as "Robot Monster")
well it IS a classic after all, haha. i almost forgot that the psychedelic space footage was ripped from the equally amazing grade-Z turd, THE WIZARD OF MARS.

Actually, it REALLY sounds like the guy who did Gollum in the animated Rankin/Bass "The Hobbit" and "Return of the King" movies.

Why is it that in all these stupid vampire movies, the fang mark on the neck never match up to the vampire's mouth. Stupid directors..

GOTHMIDNIGHTMERMAID 4 years ago
that's one reason why al adamson flicks are such a great value - you often get two or three movies put together all for the price of one!

Al Adamson made this movie?

More like he stitched it together from bits of three different movies. It's a Frankenfilm!

@deadenddrivein I think the 'dinosaur' footage is from ONE MILLION B.C. Of course footage from that flick was used in lots of b-movies.

It's fun to see low budget sci-fi movies such as these. Speaking of Mars did you hear a vast of water has just been discovered in Mars?

i had not heard that. did they by chance also discover any cave-dwelling midgets dressed as bats?
