I Have Played Oblivion Loads, Completed Every Quest At Least Once and have many high level characters. I've done nearly everything there is to do and Mods add new things which renew the entire game. There are things i thought of doing through modding (pitting an army or Martin septims against mehrunes dagon anyone? :-) ). Mods renew the game. Simple as that.

MODS ARE FANTASTIC! They ad hours of gameplay, new content, Lore, guilds, people and so much more! Playing though seriously is for loser will no willingness to have fun! You can get cool/wierd mods like Maddogs fantasy, or explore ancient Alyeid 'spires' in the 'The Lost Spires'! You can even make your own mods from pitting an army of Adoring fans against the Imperial city to adding a bush in the sky! The Possibilities are ENDLESS!

LOL? Mods don't effect the game negatively, unless you overdo it, which isn't likely. Like Isaac said, mods help us enjoy Oblivion MORE. Lots of Oblivion mods add MUCH NEEDED content that bethesda didn't add! A house and horses in the Shiver Isles, the Unofficial PAtches and several more! Bethesda ENCOURAGES MODDING, they have texturing guides, CS guides and ways to add content to their game! Bethesda made the Construction Set SO WE COULD EASILY modify their already great game!
