Bang for the buck, digital sounds best.
If, however, you have the time and resources to do analog right (including finding properly pressed records - no two sound alike), and properly matched hi-end speakers, pre-amp, amps, interconnects, power upgrade, etc, then vinyl blows the "sonic quality" doors off of digital.
Everything discussed here is correct...
