  • Never been to Justin's house and I don't "lift" things.

  • This proves how Brent medland was such a great musician and such a great man

  • @TheClassicMusicMan Mydland

  • @gtz1975 I never get his last name right and the dead are my favorite band of all time

  • What if you were just walking by and saw this going down. So cool to see Brent in the raw

  • you would have to be a keyboardist or vocalist to understand just how great Brent was, and how hard it is to do what he did without much effort. Genious!

  • brent was the one of the biggest besides jerry and bob on the in the dark album! hello! that sound he brought just isnt reproduceable.

  • i had a bunch of stuff like this on vhs. it was called ".Rarities".

  • what a shame Brent...you had so much more to share!!

  • fantastic bunch of guys. we were all lucky to have shared a moment with them. i love em all!

  • The music may be memorable but there is a dark vibe over these vids

  • Brent friggin' tore the keys a new one.... up there jammin' with Jerr right now!

  • UGH god he was awful - why was he even with the dead?

  • @MrGrevy you are an idiot brent was what brought the band to a total succes his back up vocals and keyboards completed the band and when he died, something inside jerry went with him.

  • @MrGrevy

  • @MrGrevy brent was great at harmonies he was the reason they became so successfull in the late eighties without his keys and voc's i know they wouldn't have been so great, and when he died a part of jerry went with him and by the way hes just f-ing around not seriously palying ok. be careful when talking about the dead . brent was the best. and so was keith.

  • @naraa123 Disagree. The dead became popular in the late 80's because of the In the Dark album and more specifically, the song Touch of Grey. Brent had his moments but he really wasn't that good. As far as being "careful" when talking about the Dead...umm no, I'll express my opinion you weirdo.

  • Brent , the best B -3 player ever !

  • brent was killed. one freakin track mark is not proof of a junkie.

  • Sounds like Jerry behind the camera, and Bobby, Billy, and Brent are shit-faced.

  • that is awesome, i've been thinking about brent for some reason today and wouldn't have expected to find this,,,,great stuff

  • The Brent years were the best IMHO...he and Jerry had a tractor beam way of locking in and the Morning Dews from this time were epic. I love every year though. Greatest band ever: Good ole' Grateful Dead. This "I will take you home" is so damn real. Depth.

  • GD @ MSG Brent doin good golly miss Molly/devil with a blue dress 87 or 88 can't remember witch year but it's F...ing explosive hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BRENT MYDLAND was the greatest pianist the BOYS EVER HAD!!!!!!!! R.I.P. it up BROTHER!!!! WE MISS YOU!!!!!!! I still get misty when you play "I will take you home" ........... you must be BLOWIN GOD'S MIND up there in HEAVEN!!!!!!

  • wish they could have playd whatd i say

  • cool stuff ty,yeah brent pound those keys rock star......

  • damn brent you left us too early.....we miss you! i will take you home

  • Brent, that needle, that was a mistake.

  • @venniey

    Ah, yes. So sad.

A very talented, soulful musician. Rest in peace, Brent

  • Brent, I miss you buddy. "I Will take You Home" makes me cry every time. It's so beautiful.

  • Isailor, thanks a million for posting this. I play and sing ALOT of Brent, so it's nice to see him and the guys on their "off" time.

If this is yours, Hustin, Thanks a ton for shooting and making available this and the other clips. I, and every other fan truly appreciate them.

  • is jerry the cameraman?

  • no, from my understanding this was shot by Billy's son Justin.

  • @lsailor Surely you weren't the one who lifted that GD highlight reel from Justins house, are you? And I TOTALLY expect you to answer truthfully. lol. Even JK said he didn't really mind that they were released.

  • phenominal! could you imagine walking in on this at your local Hilton, next round is on me boys!

  • Brent was the Best!

  • Seeing Brent deciding to play a little I will take you home at the piano bar, You know that little girl was his one love his true love and a big part of the passion behind his music, in the end knowing that he was loosing her too. . . . (it would've killed him) I miss the days when the dead were still the dead but once Brent was gone the end was inevitable

  • So sad - Brent's passing was the end - 89-90 were stellar show years

  • Yes I agree 100% 89 was out of this world and then that last tour with Brent, Wow he was so on fire all the time we should've known. I'll never forget while laying back on the hill at Tinley just before the show (Brents last) and having this discussion with some old friends. Doesn't really seam like that was 17 years ago does it?

  • u r soooo right. when we lost brent the end was near. it just wasn't the same. some of those shows with bruce were great but brent gave the band balls

  • Yes Bruce gave us some moments this is true but brent was and will always be may favorite at keys. So miss it, him Jerry, tour all of you as well so many roads to esase my soul

  • Thanks for posting the vid. I sit on my farm in Edison NJ and listen to this and it does take me home. GD goes well with nature.

  • yes, very nice.

nature, going home, and the Grateful Dead.

    there's a message in there y'all!

  • Brent will be forever missed. He was a huge part of the GD. Loved his energy, passion, and voice !!!

  • family music takes away the dust of every day life wake up to find out that you are the song that the morning brings we all have our troubles no one asked to be here how do you sleep at night give all musicians a break tranquillo

  • thank you for sharing yours

  • brent was GREAT on the keyboard and i LOVED his voice

  • @jayjohnstrick Umm no - he certainly wasn't great. He paled in comparison with keith godchaux.

  • r u kidding me...i loved brents voice equally as much as his piano.

  • I fucking love Brent. Pigpen was awesome, sure, and well frankly Keith never did it for me, since he was perpetually fucked up. Brent was made for the GD.

  • I would like to hear you play

  • i hear u...brent was the man...so was pigpen for that matter.

  • Very cool. I also would like to know when and where that took place. Definitely late 80's probably somewhere cold based on their attire.

  • Oh, Hartford 88! I see.

  • While at the Alpine valley(E. Troy Wis)run in 1988. A friend came back to the sweltering heat of Dead city that we endured for almost 6 days and said they saw Brent and Bobby at the Hotel in Lake Geneva Wis. in the bar at the piano. I assume this is it.

  • Brent is greatly missed :(

  • love your friends hold them tight

  • What I say, rockin the ray charles w/ billy and brent on the piano, cool stuff any one know what tour? what city?

  • Billy's son Justin.

  • More soundchecks, jam sessions, hanging-loose clips, please. Seeing them interact without the audience present (under pressure)teaches we students of their prowess, the mentality of why they'd play this way or that way in concert.

  • good old grateful dead, i love and miss you all so much

  • i think

  • hartford 88

  • AAAaaahhh... The Good Ol' DAZE! PEACE!

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting this.

  • looks like the boys having a wee bit o' fun

  • wow.... this was awesome! *sigh* How I miss these guys.

  • He was a good man who would take his girls home if he could. He just didn't know how. He loved the 3 of them. They were very special to him. His family and friends knew the truth. We will all miss him much.

We don't know how he left us. Some say this, some say that. Again, he was better than we all knew.

  • This is sick! Thanks!

  • That song was for Jessica. She is an amazing person who was much loved by her Daddy. Brent had a connection with her that any good father has with his child!!

  • nice

  • I Love Brent and Jerry and Bob as Some love Jesus, Moses and Allah

  • A-fukin-men!! Besides... Jesus,Moses and Allah can't play for shit.

  • solo is from Johnny B. Goode....great bar footage...imagine wandering in for a beer and ZAM!!!!

  • anyone know what concert the solo at the end is from?

  • i will take you home, one of my favs

  • must've been summer of 88. Brent introduced "I will take you home" in Alpine, Black Bird only played 2 times, once in Alpine. We would party in Bar after shows. Don't remember piano playing there though....Great memories!

  • Billy rockin the keys....

  • classic

  • Brent had such a strange and wonderful voice...I wish he had left a larger body of songs behind...

  • nice! thank you!
