Get your dog on a leash!!! It is "irresponsible" of you to let your dog walk around 'not under the control of the owner' like that. Pits are not horrible or mean. Their owners are dip shits. It's not the dogs I don't trust, it's the humans who raise them. During the visit, the dogs were put into another room, but somehow got out and found the child laying on the floor on a blanket in another room, Moscato said.
Brian Palmer, 18 months old, died April 24, the day after his family's pit bull attacked him in his mother's townhouse off Ashley Phosphate Road. The dog, a stray taken in by the family, had gotten out of a utility room. It had killed a relative's cat about a week before, but family members said they dismissed that incident as dislike of other animals.
A 2-year-old wandered out the back door of his grandmother's brick house Thursday morning in a red T-shirt and underwear and was attacked by his grandmother's pit bull.
The approximately 40-pound dog latched onto Holden Jernigan's throat and head, inflicting fatal wounds, Dorchester County sheriff's 1st Sgt. Mike Miller said.

He looks like a great dog. That does not excuse the fact that he is not leashed. Leash laws are in place for a reason. Its not responsible pet ownership and its illegal. You can't predict the behavior of a dog. Example: Your dog is off the leash running around. Someone comes out with a dog who is ON a leash and your dog goes over to meet that dog in a friendly manner. And that dog attacks your dog. It's your fault, not the owner the leashed dog even though your dog didn't start it.
@amn0270 I want to add that in a designated off leash dog park leash laws do not apply however if a particular dog in the park misbehaves and injures another dog or person the owner of that dog is responsible even though everyone in the park knows that risk before entering. It's up the owner to make sure his dog behaves himself and if he can't control his dog the dog should not be allowed in the dog park.

I have 2 pit bulls and one is old 15 and the other is 2 and I tell u it's how there raised, any dog will protect there master is a time of distress. my dogs sleep with my son everynight and has for years

also, most dogs on leash are watched by their owners, but some don't pay any attention, especially if they're using a flexi lead. they dont lock it, let they're dog walk around, tangle themselves up because theyre not watching, get skin rashes from getting a "rope burn" type of wound, and causes problems for other people and animals walking around. and nocontrol over theyre animal what so ever
@elephantluck i use a "flexi lead"/retractable leash, and i always lock it when i need to. i HATE when people with aggressive or overly hyper dogs let their dog on a retractable leash and dont even lock it!
read a lot of these comments and i just have to say... i have worked with animals for 5 yrs, and i have seen dogs on and off leash. ever wonder why, when you take you animal to the vet, there are probably signs posted in many places saying to please keep your dog on a leash? I have seen many people let their dog wander or worse, use flexi leads, and they may be well behaved but could get into toxic substances or go up to an animal-aggressive dog and get hurt...
@elephantluck i went to a vets office with my VERY nervous corgi mix. a tiny daschund came running from behind a closed door (his owner opened the door, and he was on a retractable leash, the kind with no lock) the dog came out, attacked my dog, and my dog attaced every other dog she ever met after that. she was NEVER like that before. my mom ended up giving her back to the old owners. she even got off her leash once and chased another dog. (we caught her though) shes in the best home now.
@elephantluck character limit: she is in a home with a retired woman who never gets visiters. i taught her about 10 tricks in less than 3 months. her old owners had her for 7 years and she STILL growled and tried to bite them when they touched her paws, i got her doing "paw" and "high five" perfectly within 3 weeks. they were the 1st tricks i had planned for her when the owners said they couldnt touch her paws. she was also abused as a puppy and someone even cut off the tip of one her ears!
my 70lb pit got into a brutal fight with a squrrel over a peanut i threw in the yard, it was a intense fight but unfortunately the squrrel won and ran away victoriously with the peanut in mouth, Re Re the pit sat in shame in the corner of the porch for about an hour untill she relized i had more peanuts, i brought her inside away from the vicious squrrel and gave her some peanuts. Moral of the story is, squrrels are badasses, and should not be looked down apoun.

My aunt breeds APBS as service animals and for work with special needs children, who have a hard time communicating with people but connect with animals just fine. the APB has a naturally even temperament and tends to bond well with multiple people. Obedient, energetic, outgoing, they're actually one of the best breeds to have around children.

Your Pit's fur is beautiful. I love brindle coloring on dogs <3 He looks very obedient, too. The little black one is cute too (can't tell if it's a Chihuahua or a Min Pin, though). In 2010, a husky killed a three-week-old baby girl as she sat strapped in her car seat on the floor of a home in St. Barnabe Sud, in the Montérégie.
Her 17-year-old mother was allegedly outside having a cigarette when the dog attacked.
She was charged with manslaughter but has yet to go to trial.

A family dog has killed a newborn baby in a community just north of Calgary.
RCMP said the infant was attacked Wednesday morning inside the family's home in Airdrie.
The boy was taken to Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary with traumatic injuries. He died later that night.
The dog, a husky, is being quarantined until the family and bylaw officers decide whether it should be destroyed.
Police said the family had no previous problems with the pet, and criminal charges are not being considered.

@amn0270 I want to add that in a designated off leash dog park leash laws do not apply however if a particular dog in the park misbehaves and injures another dog or person the owner of that dog is responsible even though everyone in the park knows that risk before entering. It's up the owner to make sure his dog behaves himself and if he can't control his dog the dog should not be allowed in the dog park.

also, most dogs on leash are watched by their owners, but some don't pay any attention, especially if they're using a flexi lead. they dont lock it, let they're dog walk around, tangle themselves up because theyre not watching, get skin rashes from getting a "rope burn" type of wound, and causes problems for other people and animals walking around. and nocontrol over theyre animal what so ever

read a lot of these comments and i just have to say... i have worked with animals for 5 yrs, and i have seen dogs on and off leash. ever wonder why, when you take you animal to the vet, there are probably signs posted in many places saying to please keep your dog on a leash? I have seen many people let their dog wander or worse, use flexi leads, and they may be well behaved but could get into toxic substances or go up to an animal-aggressive dog and get hurt...

@elephantluck i went to a vets office with my VERY nervous corgi mix. a tiny daschund came running from behind a closed door (his owner opened the door, and he was on a retractable leash, the kind with no lock) the dog came out, attacked my dog, and my dog attaced every other dog she ever met after that. she was NEVER like that before. my mom ended up giving her back to the old owners. she even got off her leash once and chased another dog. (we caught her though) shes in the best home now.

@elephantluck character limit: she is in a home with a retired woman who never gets visiters. i taught her about 10 tricks in less than 3 months. her old owners had her for 7 years and she STILL growled and tried to bite them when they touched her paws, i got her doing "paw" and "high five" perfectly within 3 weeks. they were the 1st tricks i had planned for her when the owners said they couldnt touch her paws. she was also abused as a puppy and someone even cut off the tip of one her ears!

my 70lb pit got into a brutal fight with a squrrel over a peanut i threw in the yard, it was a intense fight but unfortunately the squrrel won and ran away victoriously with the peanut in mouth, Re Re the pit sat in shame in the corner of the porch for about an hour untill she relized i had more peanuts, i brought her inside away from the vicious squrrel and gave her some peanuts. Moral of the story is, squrrels are badasses, and should not be looked down apoun.

My aunt breeds APBS as service animals and for work with special needs children, who have a hard time communicating with people but connect with animals just fine. the APB has a naturally even temperament and tends to bond well with multiple people. Obedient, energetic, outgoing, they're actually one of the best breeds to have around children.
