They don't fire chemicals. The electron gun fires electrons at the chemicals which releases light. Typically these aren't harmful at all (same concept as fluorescent bulbs).
Not to mention LCD and LCDLED (because led is only the backlight anyway not really a new technology) screens emit a hell of a lot of electromagnetic radiation in the form of visible light. Also, there is a small amount of heat radiation as well.
This myth only exists due to concerns about new technology as always.
Depends the speed of the pixels. Theres a formula we are learning for in Opthamology school. Speed of pixels is inverse square of something related to the quantum energy per line... Errr its hard to explain
wrong new tvs like lcd and led tvs do not have any form of radiation. they dont emit a small amount at all. the reason why old tvs like crt emit radiation cause they are catode rays tubes which fire rays of emiting chemicals to the front of the screen which causes the radiation. new tvs such as lcd and led do not fire anything at all. they just emit light per specific pixel.
@tefiri Really? New TV do not have any radiation coming from them? None? So the light come from your TV that make the images you see is from something other then electro-magnetic RADIATION? Anything that uses electricity gives off some form of radiation at some level.
@tefiri Yes, but your statement of "new tvs such as lcd and led do not fire anything at all" is totally false. Their radiation may to be harmful to us, but all light is radiation, so if it gives off light it gives off radiation. Though, not all radiation is the same, difference frequency has different effects on humans.

Technically sitting close is still bad for your eyes cause they have to strain to take in the whole screen....

@Loathomar yes standing infront of your kitchen oven has more radiation than using crt monitors by the way.
