  • Perhaps 80 is loaded with too large first filter capacitor. Nothing more than 22uF should be used there. After the choke - freelance.

    Such an arcing surely means almost-dead tube. Either the current or voltage rating was exceeded, or there was some gas inside.

  • i did replace the 80. the amp is a yamamoto a-08s using a type 45 output tube. it is a SET pumping out a full 2 watts of power.

  • That is neat to see, but should be immidiatly shut off and a new 80 put in. Is this one of the SET amps that uses 300B tubes?? I want to hear what one sounds like. I am experimenting using 01a tubes as a pre amp and have been very pleased with the resutls.
