Hockey was in shit shape at that time and there are rumours to this day that the refs got some incentive to help the Rangers out thinking that having them win would be better for the NHL as opposed to a Canadian team winning it again. I think the rumours ridiculous though as it was probably started by some pissed off Canucks fans haha. Regardless, the reffing in the first was for lack of a better term: fucking awful and I don't think anyone could disagree with that if they saw the game.

Lamegers...ha, funny (but we got the cup...HA!). In any event, it was a great series, and the Canucks gave the Rangers all they could handle. The best series in the past 20 years I say. Edmonton-Hartford was good, Tampa-Calgary was, but not as good as this. Quebec-Colorado (way back machine) was awesome, not for actual play but because the Devils lost.

In my (somewhat biased) opinion, there hasn't been a cup finals since that is as good as this one.

Cgy - Tam: Calgary is boring as hell to watch.

The Rangers were stacked in this season (& the Rangers and Canucks had very good seasons in this relative timeframe; especially the Rangers, including in this particular season), but the Canucks had a roster that really was knocking right at the Rangers' doorstep in this season, its playoffs, and in this Stanley Cup Finals.

Only due to thier team's record in this season, the Canucks, therefore, had perhaps the ultimate underdog squad in this Stanley Cup Finals. So close...
