I think this is amazing - I live in a place where many people just do not have electricity. this is brilliant, but I do have to agree with the credibility of putting something public that has been authored by someone with a swear word in it. Regardless - I will pass it on, hoping it won't deter people from watching it.
I like this idea and I think some of the criticisms are unfounded. These are not night lights, they allow daylight into the homes so the people don't have to use electricity to light their homes in the daytime so they save money and reduce the demand on natural resources used in generating electricity. I also do not see that it makes the homes any less weatherproof as the bottles are sealed into the section of corrugated sheet with some sort of resin or glue
Before we get too excited this is not a "light bulb" as such its only disperses sunlight around in a room much better than a conventional hole in the ceiling. Will work only in the brightest part of the day and does not work at night. Only useful in slums that have no windows at all. I don't see any thing great it in. Regardless of the username, the video has been seen more in South Africa than anywhere else in the world. Im confident people there are using this "lighting" to help in everyday life. Who knows, it might make living a little more comfortable. However, this doent mean im complacent to the real issues which stand in the way of the poor and needy! Infact this video is to spread the information as far and wide as we can, and likewise, the poor passing on their knowledge to ignorant westerners! ;0)

@opcomment ...well I think it's obvious that in this particular area, the housing is so compacted that many rooms cannot have windows...these are slum-type areas, not detached suburban houses!! bit of a stupid comment really, don't you think??? Let's appreciate any low-cost/no-cost innovations that help the underpriveledged have a better existence (and not have to pay more for unneeded electricity)

I think this is amazing - I live in a place where many people just do not have electricity. this is brilliant, but I do have to agree with the credibility of putting something public that has been authored by someone with a swear word in it. Regardless - I will pass it on, hoping it won't deter people from watching it.

I like this idea and I think some of the criticisms are unfounded. These are not night lights, they allow daylight into the homes so the people don't have to use electricity to light their homes in the daytime so they save money and reduce the demand on natural resources used in generating electricity. I also do not see that it makes the homes any less weatherproof as the bottles are sealed into the section of corrugated sheet with some sort of resin or glue

Before we get too excited this is not a "light bulb" as such its only disperses sunlight around in a room much better than a conventional hole in the ceiling. Will work only in the brightest part of the day and does not work at night. Only useful in slums that have no windows at all. I don't see any thing great it in. I guess these guy got a lot of money to make a video they are just looking for some funds

WTF happens if it rains?? As you can see they are cutting a hole in the poor man ceiling. Just placing a piece of tin with the bottle. That is NOT going to stop water from getting into the house Its funny how people get inspired by a "well shot" video with a lot of B.S. Pep talk and fail to see how idiotic this idea really is. This kind of darkness is pretty rare. In the start you can see the houses have windows just open connecting windows so light flows in. This is not even that bright.

You ask that we help your video go viral. I am involved with science education in the UK, for instance directly in contact with 5000 members of a teachers' website I manage.
Teachers are really keen to use your video in science lessons - what a brilliant invention!
However, many schools couldn't possibly show a video with "fuck" in it.
