Also another unrealistic part is the sound. There is distortion added to the exhaust sounds, my Seat Leon Cupra sounds completely different in real life than in the game.
If you want realism buy Forza or GT5 depending on which console you use.
Because of SHIFT 2 Unleashed, I have understand some elements present between the game and in real life. Sense of speed, G-Force, Field of View and driver's view. That's why every time I'm with my uncle driving his taxi, I always sit in front passenger seat to differentiate the gameplay and in real life. This just proves that SHIFT 2 Unleashed intends to experience what's behind the wheel of a car.
Games will never be entirely realistic. For example in open world games you can't feel the wind or the rain or the jolt from a crash or fall so you aren't careful/totally immersed, in racing games you can hit restart when you slam into a wall, in real life you wouldn't want to destroy your car/kill yourself therefore would be careful and learn the track. Thats just how it is, games are fun, reality is real. If you want a realistic race take your car to the track, its not cheap but its worth it.
When you take a the same car on the same track as in the game, you definatelly won't go so fast into a corner as in the game, you won't step on the gas as early,
REALISM can never be achieved by a game, unless we get our brains logged into the game, controlling everything by our mind itself (like in the movies in the year 2040 or so)

Ok I buyed the game, installed it played for 30 min, the first 8 min is the blabla intro and some fat headed guy talks something. Uninstaled the game and sold the game. This game sucks... from scale 0 to 10 this game is a barely 5. Race Driver Grid is a good 9.
@cakix1 Grid is one of my favorites, but it doesn't hold a candle to the realism of Shift 2. This game really is a test of whether or not you know how to drive a car. The only people I've ever seen hate this game are the ones who can't drive for shit.

I had 3 options (gt5, forza3 and shift2) before i bought my xbox and i chose from a comparison vid on youtube. it was the right choice. Shift2 kicks ass.
I have to tell they put a really good effort in to this game - and it was 100% worth it. Even though I didn't have a chance to play this game (my PC isn't strong enough to support graphics), I saw some gameplays and how my friend plays it. It is absolutely epic game! How car handles, how it turns, how your vision changes when it gets darker - sometimes I felt that I was driving a real racing car. I think I have to move GTR2 from my #1 spot, and put SHIFT2 Unleashed there, where it should be)
If you say that this game sucks and isn't realistic worth shit. Who cares? I race gokarts professionally in the WKA. I like this game. I think it's pretty realistic from my experience. I hated the Playstation version. Maybe I need to check out the Playstation again - but it seemed cartoon like and numb. I need to tweak a small amount of wheel lag --patch maybe? Also setting up the cars better. I plug the PC into a 60 inch TV - with surround. If you can't drive a race car - you may hate this game :)

Shift 2 is a complete waste of money! If you're considering buying it, DON'T! Physics engine sucks, and the AI sucks even worse (just to begin with). And now that they've announced that there won't be any more patches, I'm uninstalling it. This game was never fit for release...

I've got that Red Bull Mazda RX-8 in game, it totally sucks, in a drifting race you can't gain any speed and turn the slightest bit or it will spin around, no other car in this game is as challenging to drive as that thing. I've completed all the drifting races on the 3rd highest realism setting and even on easy realism that mazda is a death trap
@rowtypo i think its lie... Shift 1 had stupid physics, and i think this one will have too.. Maybe it will be advanced by abit but still.. LFS and GT5 is better at physics
That the physics engine is advanced just means they'll be able to adjust many more parameters according to individual skill level. Incidentally I don't think that a realistic Racing sim would need that advanced a physics engine, but one that sacrifices some realism for immersion like this would need it (for example the tarmac in most sims feel too smooth and perfect while in S2U it's full of imperfections making it more immersive).
@MrFalconfly i agree we don't really need too realistic to plat racing games just something to have fun.S2U is mostly for more experince players that have been playing racing track-based games for a long time.and yes the tarmac is imperfect to make it feel as though the track has been there for a long time so it has worn out by crashes over the pass 50 years since it was built

Shift 2 is a complete waste of money! If you're considering buying it, DON'T! Physics engine sucks, and the AI sucks even worse (just to begin with). And now that they've announced that there won't be any more patches, I'm uninstalling it. This game was never fit for release...

After seeing how EA promoted the so-called realism of Shift 2, I expected something more than cars that behave like they weigh 5 lbs., idiotic AI drivers, the return of the "magnetic" walls from Shift 1 and crap FFB. For comparison, try Race 07. That's how it's supposed to feel!

fuck this game its easier to drive in real life seriously! This is the stupidest game ive played in the nfs series, all the others i was able to beat in about 1 day but this one i cannot win at it is an abomination. Its producers were trying to put a car simulator into a racing game = fail. previous shift let us play with any car in quick race, but in this one you have to buy all of them to do that...

Polyphony Digital had a small team when they developing GT5 so that's why it took
5 years to finish.
150 people worked on the GT5 but during that they also have alot of other work like
developing Multi function meter for Nissan GT-R numerous collaboration projects
with car makers shooting episodes for GT TV in 2008.
150 people is not enough.
PD is more than a game company so now they moved their studio to fukuoka and planning to expanding their team.

I've got that Red Bull Mazda RX-8 in game, it totally sucks, in a drifting race you can't gain any speed and turn the slightest bit or it will spin around, no other car in this game is as challenging to drive as that thing. I've completed all the drifting races on the 3rd highest realism setting and even on easy realism that mazda is a death trap

Well he did say "Advanced" and not "Realistic".
That the physics engine is advanced just means they'll be able to adjust many more parameters according to individual skill level. Incidentally I don't think that a realistic Racing sim would need that advanced a physics engine, but one that sacrifices some realism for immersion like this would need it (for example the tarmac in most sims feel too smooth and perfect while in S2U it's full of imperfections making it more immersive).
