  • The only thing I don't like about this programme is it's failure to mention Gentle Giant.

  • What Steve Howe said starting at 0:13 seconds, I want that in writing. Hilarious!

  • Whats that song between 00:15 and 01:00?

  • What's the song that plays right up 00.15 and from 01.00 to 01.08?

  • i love prog music, it's so interesting because you can do whatever you want in a song. you could combine jazz with hip hop, metal, and classical music if you wanted to, it's fun and the possibilities are endless. btw, for those of you who haven't heard them, check out Dream Theater. those guys are ridiculous

  • @ironwolg and planet x!!

  • @InvisibleMasquerade and Jordan Rudess's solo stuff lol

  • If anyone wants to check some brazilian prog rock then take a look at my channel.

  • very nice video friend!! i have to ask you to give some support " bbuteo " by subscribing and leaving them a comment, i just discovered this band here in youtube and im already a big fan, they are making wonderful pop progressive rock, i can assure you that they are great, again, please check them(bbuteo) tx friend 5/5***

  • Please any link to watch this full pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • It was up a while ago, the whole thing, but they took it down cause each one of the three parts was 30 minutes long.

  • what is the song that starts at 1:07?

  • I asked EXACTLY the same question when I heard it!! Egg - Symphony No 2 First Movement off their self-titled album from 1970 - find it on youtube its somewhere here

  • Symphony No. 2 (1st Movement) by the band Egg.

  • EGG....

  • EGG -Symphony

  • To all prog fan and anyone who knows a bit about music, could you please tell me the name of the song that starts to play at 42.30 during the documentary. It starts when Tony Banks is talking. You can find the Prog Britannia doc on BBC iplayer

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • bbc wont allow those outside uk access to their videos so i cant see it to find that spot, so what time is it at on this video?

  • The song I am talking about is not featured in this video, I recently watched the doc and I am trying desperately to find it. I can describe it (if that helps??), it is a massively sustained organ or synth, rather like a drone, and has a saxophone occasionally holding notes over the top, before it releases allowing a delay to carry the sound of the sax into the distance. Any help? lol

  • well i'd have to hear it, but off the top of my head it sounds like you described a couple of songs by Soft Machine or Van Der Graff Generator. There's not much sax in prog, so that helps narrow it down somewhat to jazzier prog. Could also maybe be Gentle Giant or King Crimson. or some jazzier canterbury groups. Maybe you can somehow snatch the clip and re-encode it to another format so i can hear it?

  • p.s. they have the genesis segment up here on youtube too, so try and see if it's in there...it's like part 6 or 7 here.

  • Hey, someone has posted the whole documentary. The song I have been talking about starts 20 seconds into part 5 of 9.

Could you also name the song that plays right at the start of the clip. Finally, I can resolve this!

  • don't know but its not Giant or VDGG

  • Comment removed

  • hello

  • How did Johnny Rotten get in this intro? I thought he was Mr. anti-prog rock?

  • They mention him later on in the film.

  • OK admit am BBC Publicist but if this kinda thang - Prog - is ur guilty pleasure check out BBC South East Today's Canterbury Scene series - tracing the seeds of Prog back to Kent!

  • Someone gets it right for a change!

A trailer for a documentary about the best era ever -

with music from the best band ever - from any era - EGG

  • There were numerous documentaries about Metal and Punk.

Now, at long last, there's one about Progressive. And I can easily see more to come including Prog from Germany and throughout the rest of Europe and it's influence on North America and the rest of the world.

  • the intro droning humming music is by Procol Harum from 1968, titled: "In Held twas in I: (Glimpses of Nirvana)" from their album "Shine on Brightly". It's actually a big long 5 part suite (really 5 songs loosely tied together), with great guitar work by Robin Trower as well. Goes from psych to gloomy to humour to contemplative. Very ahead of it's time, one of the first prog bands. There's more to Procol than just "whiter shade of pale" which i never liked anyways, they were much more diverse

  • Don't forget the Egg song that follows right in afterward.

  • Hello again gingerb91 looks like we meet again on another softs related video! nope didn't forget the egg song after, but that's more obvious...the Procol humming drone is more obscure.

p.s. to all Canterbury Fans...if you havent heard yet, i'm afraid to say that Hugh Hopper died a few days ago, so go blast some Soft Machine now!

  • The entire documentary was on youtube just a while ago, what happened?where did it go?

  • The video has been removed due to terms of use violation. Sdicht's channel was suspended too. The Copyright law's are getting on my nerves....

  • as sure as eggs is eggs. first song after the title, prog rock brit, is the Egg. find it here, type in the search area, egg symphony no.2: first movement. there is also another version if you type, egg symphony #2 movement 1, cheers

  • that song that comes on after the writing of the program cums up wot is it ,i want it x

  • Can anyone please tell me the name of the first song? It sounds interesting 0.O!

  • Symphony No. 2 by Egg

  • Symphony No. 2: First Movement to be precise.

I have that in my favorites.

  • This is awesome! Egg as an intro to the show, brilliant! Where can I see the whole thing?!

  • @guyeylon What's the name of the song please?

  • @tinaturntable Symphony No. 2

  • @guyeylon Thank you!

  • You can fid it on bit torrent, sir.

  • UK residents can watch/download this program on BBC4 website.

Quite good program but unfortunately a bit too much about Yes and Genesis and not enough about other groups.

My favourite guest - Mont Campbell.

  • You shouldn't have replied really. From what you've just written I can say without a fear of contradiction that you seem to be quite narrow-minded dope.

  • How Can you say ELP sucked? like really?

  • I meant bands like Gong and Van der Graaf and all those B-list prog acts. They weren't very good.

  • Gong and Van der graaf - not very good!!

Gong were great and surely Van der graaf had a hand in inventing the bloody thing!

  • But they sound lame.

  • Van der graaf generator do not sound lame.

I get the impression you're just after an argument fore the sake of it cause logging onto a prog video and slagging off VDGG is not going to go down well is it?

  • No, I just don't think they're very good.

  • I'm a huge Yes & Genesis fan, but I agree, these programmes tend to be a 'round up the usual suspects affair'. There was nothing about Gong, Camel, Greenslade, Gryphon, The Amazing Blondel and even though they were featured, not enough about Caravan. However, as a lover of all things prog, I can safetly say that Soft Machine, Pink Flloyd and King Crimson were SHITE.

  • Can someone upload the full program pleeaasseee??

  • It's PROGRAMME. And make sure you write your "7"s with the little line through them, and use metric.
