I've lived in Island Lake since I was 7 [I'm now 24] and Ive never heard of this until tonight. What is this located near?
About 8 years ago Island Lake had it's big 50th Anniversary yet these date in the 1700's? Where can I find the history on Island Lake? Im interested now.
I remember my friends grandmother saying she had stayed in those little cottages as a young girl scout in the 30s. This area is rich in history, from Indian settlements, to settlers. Also I am told by the old timers that the 20s era gangsters ( Capone & Baby face ) used Slocum Lake area as one of their hideouts. ( some of which still exist )The old crumbling building south of rt 176 was one of Capones gambling houses. I also hope the graves are preserved as a memorial.
any idea why they are just located smack-dab in the woods off rt. 176? And what are those white-house-shacks right down the trail from this gravesite? any idea?
I have seen the gravesite and to me it is a dishonor to a great General and his family. I had heard that the historical cemetery organization was going to make this a Historical Cemetery. I hope they still do.
yea ive known about this place for years, what a shitty quality video

The land was donated to the Wauconda Township. Whatever Swanson and his cronies do will be a poor joke as usual.

I also have visited this cemetery on several occasions.
I noted that the first members of the family to be laid to rest here
was buried back in the late 1700s. & the last was in 1902.
This area is very over grown now a days & is difficult to find unless you know where to go. I usually go in the spring when the trees still have no
leaves & the mosquitos havent grown to the size of sparrows.
