Those "huge lazy engines" are actually a result of there being no direct tax on engine displacement in America versus Japan and parts of Europe being almost forced to produce smaller engines. And, in reality, really the only American cars with such large "lazy" engines are trucks, muscle, and some sports cars.

Large displacement engines that are "lazy" are more about tradition and are in some ways practical (being cheaper to develop) to both the consumer and manufacturer. If I were to put a racing camshaft and the right performance parts (or even forced induction?) on these "lazy" engines, they wouldn't be so "lazy" any more. Possibly less fuel efficient, however. The end result is more affordable, while still having nice power/MPGs.

You mean 1200lb downforce. ;-) (1000 for 2008-09) The standard car makes 100lb downforce at 150. The spoiler really does need to be that big though. By extending it that far out and high enough, it reduces drag a bit and gives the car better stability as drafts are rolling off the car from air displacement. A smaller spoiler might actually do harm by throwing the car off/making handling harder in the corners. At least with this spoiler, it's not covered with rice and servers a purpose.

In my opinion it needs to be a bit smaller.
The object of it though is to create more downforce.
with a car like this 100 lbs of downforce at 150 mph will really count, so performance wise... leave it on!!

You mean 1200lb downforce. ;-) (1000 for 2008-09) The standard car makes 100lb downforce at 150. The spoiler really does need to be that big though. By extending it that far out and high enough, it reduces drag a bit and gives the car better stability as drafts are rolling off the car from air displacement. A smaller spoiler might actually do harm by throwing the car off/making handling harder in the corners. At least with this spoiler, it's not covered with rice and servers a purpose.
