I had an idea. Possibly you could put a "freeze" button on the table, which keeps the camera from updating. That way, you could press it while you are placing a gumball in a hole, and not trigger the camera. When you let go, the camera updates with the new pattern!

I don't think it's based on colour. I can see that it's determined by which of the 4 horizontal tracks have a gumball in them. They've been careful to place the colors all on the same tracks, which gives the impression that colour is a determining factor, but I bet that (according to the initial pattern mapping) if you placed a green 'snare' ball in the bottom track, it would give you a 'kick', just the same as if it were pink.

Yeah you're right you can see at around 1:25 when he picks up and moves the green balls over the grid you can hear the hi-hat sound, even though green is supposed to be a snare. I have no idea why they'd go through the trouble of lying. All in all pretty lame

the camera probably picked up the person's arm shadow as he/she was placing balls elsewhere. the program doesnt care about specific colour or object, just the fact that the area is darkened.

There is a chance that the announcer could be wrong. Since the camera's underneath the table I doubt there is enough lighting for the camera to distinguish different colours. Shadows would be easier to pick up so I just guessed at that.

wow this is quite a piece of work reminds me of something I would have seen on the old 'buck rogers in the 25th century) v series, well done, I bet kids would love this as well as musicians, also this would make a great piece of interactive art, it hits the mark in so many respects , what an awesome idea. oh and on the FL debate I think FL looks to be quite a useful tool its interface looks a bit more daunting than ableton which I am using, I have heard some great music made on Fruity loops tho

I think Reason's good, but i prefer FL. and don't say it's a beginner DAW because thats what people say about it whenever they don't even sit down for 2 days on it. Trust me, I've been working with FL for 3 years, and it can make professional music as good as reason can.

Plus, it doesn't matter WHAT your using. It depends on the MUSICIAN. For instance, a good guitarist could make an 80 dollar guitar sound good.
