Gibson's had some quality issues but their biggest problem now is their outrageous price tag! For the last 30 or so years everybody has had to own a Gibson therefore Gibson thinks the world can just eat from their hands and pay what ever!
Case in point: I wanted a Gibson ES-175 here a while back but I didn't like it's whopping $3600 price tag! I opted for a Hagstrom Hl-550 for $850 and IMO it sounds better than the ES-175!
Wake up Gibson! You don't own the guitar market anymore!
Companies like PRS have amazing quality control and guitars, but they are also way overpriced. Its not really due to PRS being greedy, its more due to the way retail works in America. I suggest getting something like a Carvin if your going for quality as a fair price point. Gibson, Fender, PRS, 90% of the appeal is the logo on the headstock. If just want an amazing guitar, don't buy from the huge companies.
Gibson, fender, PRS, they all overprice guitars. What you gotta realize is that whatever it costs them to make it will be at least 1/4 of what your going to pay. Gibson makes it for $700, they sell it for $1500 to another company, who sells it to guitar center, who sells its to you for like $2600 or more. Gibson seems to have gotten lazy because they KNOW people will still buy them, why is that? Because they dominated the market in the Golden years of music, everyone knows what a Les paul is.
I have two Gibson's. A 2006 Gibson Flying V in classic white and a 2007 Gibson SG SpecialEMG and I've had no problems with them at all. The quality and attention to detail is amazing.
Gibsons used to be great guitars but their shoddy quality, the antics of their meglomaniac CEO and their outrageous prices are slowly driving the nails in their own coffin! The folks at Gibson had better grab their ears and pull their heads out of their asses!
There is a rumor floating around that Peavey might be preparing to buy them out...dear Lord I hope so!! Until Gibson or whoever is at the helm fixes the flaws I mentioned above I wont ever own one!
I have a gibson a 2005 standard faded and I will agree they are over priced especially now. however the feeling of a Gibson is like none other mine. was high quality except the nut, But it really seemed to be pretty perfected the trick is to choose a good/right one. go for used one to. Also with just a little TLC they are just amazing once you nail the sweet spot.
every guitar is over priced the prices inflate like twice the cost of shipping+10% of the net worth of the guitar from your local guitar center also ive had a les paul for almost six months now and its perfect another thing you found on the internet that is false is that there made over sea's the locations are as follows:
1. custom shop(memphis,TN)
2. the factory where they make the studio's (kansas or michigan)
3. the standard factory where they make everything else like the supreme(nashvilleTN
About Gibsons not being made in the US...It's not true. I don't know if that came from Ed Roman but quite frankly, I wouldn't pay much attention to him. I've seen 2,000 dollar Les Pauls with quality problems just as much as I've seen Epiphones with the same. Other times, you find that one near flawless Les Paul that you just HAVE to take home. Your best bet is to play as many as you can till you settle on one you really like and would be really happy with whether or not that guitar is a Gibson.
i have that guitar the lyon strat but on january 7 2010 10:05 o'clock i made the best choice of my life and got a gibson les paul standard traditional pro if you subscribe to my channel ill put up a vid for you
Well ive been playing guitars for a good 5 years now, and I'm about to take the next step and buy a Gibson. Specifically the Gibson SG Zoot Suit. I've been dreaming about this moment for years and now I'm upon that threshold. Problems as I've heard are usually associated with the neck. Mainly where the headstock begins and the neck and body join, its prone to breakage. This problem has never been corrected and is a monumental design flaw. I hope that this doesn't happen to me when I finally buy.
