@ericg83z Old question you have here.. the difference is in the cylinder placement. in a normal V12 or 16 engine the cylinders are in a line. One line of 6 or 8 Cylinders on one bank and one line of 6 or 8 cylinders on the other side Looking like OOOOOO. In a W engine there are two lines of cylinders per bank OoOoOo.Like the olympic Rings only not linked together. This makes the engine more compact in length, lowers the height of the engine when fully assembled, and produces smoother harmonics

If it was a VR engine, it would be only one cylinder bank. It's more like a V-VR8, two VR8's joined together in a Vee formation.
