What we hold so dear to our nations is something that many Vietnamese was locked up for in the same prison. The French created Hanoi Hilton to torture Vietnamese men and women who used freedom of speech and did not agree with French colonial policy and often were not caught committing what we would call today as real crimes. Being locked up for five and a half years in a foreign, enemy state is torture in and of itself. There has always been evidence that Hoa Lo and other prisons used by the North Vietnamese have used torture methods like beatings, solitary confinement and starvation. I don't know why the prison would hold special provisions for John McCain.
