  • wow, fantastic job guys, just out of interest is the power output the same more, or less than petrol (gas) ?

  • I just saw a documentary on tv of a guy in germany who rebuilt a wood fuel car.and said it can reach up to 80km/hr downhill and can go for approx 200km on a load of wood ,which looked roughly the size of this car you show.are your numbers simular?also is it legal to register this type of car in sweden, usa and australia?i think a car like this in moderation, and proving you have your own farmland to supply wood etc for a permit, might be ok as a alternative.provided there aren't health issues smoke

  • Even though it's a Volvo (politics) I favorited this anyway lol

  • Fossil fuels of any kind are obsolete. Electric cars outperform internal combustion.

WE ALL NEED TO STOP USING FOSSIL FUELS NOW! The rest of the world knows this, even China, Iran, Germany & the Saudi's. They are all building wind & solar plants as fast as they can.

Massive public works programs got us out of the depression. America needs a massive green energy program now. Upgrade the grid, re-employ fossil fuel workers in OUR green sector.

  • @BadGasGoodWind "WE ALL NEED TO STOP USING FOSSIL FUELS NOW!"

That's not realistic for some of us...

  • @thedarkone2134 neither is killing off the planet

  • @BadGasGoodWind Yes, but it's hard to just stop in a sec.

  • How far dose it run on a sack full of wood?

  • you can also run it on dried manure, right?

  • Ypou can use horse dung any organic material can be used.

  • Welcome to the 1940s. Australia was another country where this technology was embraced during wartime fuel rationing.

  • So basicly this is a steam car now?

  • you wanna see my wood ? GAS CAR! LOL

  • it sounds like a diesel engine. i did not know that a diesel would run on wood gas!

    wow

  • Fan va fräckt !

    För jävla kul !

Ska också kolla in i denna problematik :)

    mvh

    Anders

  • Same thing happened here in NZ durring WW2. The gasifier was mounted on a trailer and towed behind the vehicle, some had a flexible bag on the roof to act as a gas storage buffer. The trailers were mounted behind taxis, buses, trucks etc.

  • This is a great idea i've heard about people in south africa who during ww2 had there car runing on wood gas because oil was being used for tanks

  • If car makers ever make a car that runs on wood as an alternative fuel, the cost of wood would skyrocket.

  • then start cutting those trees in your back yard xD

  • They already have engines that run on compressed air, oxygen, and methane. I don't think they really care about that whole alt fuel

  • lol yea. in a way that would be a bad thing because if they made cars that run on wood then everyone would be cutting trees down.

  • Lots of interesting stuff like this, wood alcohol is also pretty interesting. All the crazies talking about hydrogen fuel cells are on the right track, they just have the wrong fuel. Wood alcohol fuels cells are great. I'm also with ChrisP, i think biodiesel from Algae will be a major fuel.

  • what about shit gas? I reckon that would be better than woodgas

  • hay i saw this guy on national geographic in planet mechanics episode it is great concept to run car on wood gas

  • Fred Flintsone WOOD be prooud of you!

  • Here's some interesting facts: Sweden Produces more wood than it takes down, and burning wood completely like his releases no more co2 than it would if it decomposes in the forrest, ergo co2 neutral, unlike fossil fules.

  • Wood is not viable but Algae is. It doubles its biomass in under 24 hours and due to the fact it is made up of single celled organisms its available surface area to take up atmospheric carbon is ideal. Nothing can exceed its ability to capture the suns energy to produce the hydrocarbon fuels we need to run our society. Best of all is that it is carbon neutral, able to absorb atmosmspheric carbon in real time at rates that could one day equal its release into the environment.

  • I like it.... time to build big algae skywells!

  • That garage looks like a fire station from the 60s

  • The major problem. Wood is not a viable fuel, not because it won't work but because we just don't have enough of it in the world to use. We see this in the third world is they start chopping down all the trees to use them for fuel. This is why rocket stoves are pushed to 3rd world to lower burn rates of wood. Wood gas can work but it can't replace oil, coal and natural gas. Why? because the BTU content is to low and the BTU burn rate to high. Wood even chicken crap can run a car.

  • Agree Firecatgreg. Transportation with wood gas must come with great responsibility in several areas. Most important task in the world is cuting down on energy consumption.

  • would that thing work if we used other plant matter such as dried grass, sugar cane husk, wheat stalks, rice stalks, corn stalks, dried leaves, ect.

  • @vedbil

said "Most important task in the world is cuting down on energy consumption."

That and finding renewable sources of energy. Sadly so far solar panels are too inefficent with our current technology.

  • It isn't necessary to use wood, since wood gas generators can gasify almost any type of combustible material.

    Like garbage.

  • I bet we could find alot of fuel in our garbage dumps.

  • we are all carbon based and no matter wat you do every tree will die at somepoint and release "pollutants" into the atmosphere.....so why not use it for energy?!

  • I would love to pull up to a rest stop, pop the lid and stuff in the tire that I just blew out. Imagine the looks! A+ video

  • Some of these comments demonstrate the instinctive "no" we all are trained to think and say. Our Swedish brothers are trying to show us that the technology can work not that we have to cut down all of our trees to do it. Where do you think wood scraps from Home Depot are going right now? How about tires or coffee grinds or yard clippings you so conveniently throw away into your trash bins and get to forget until next week? Please educate yourself before knocking people and their inventions.

  • Good point TommyKickslt. I do beleve that the most important task is cuting down on energy consumption. Then it's possible to use alternative fuels. We have several generations coming ahead and they have the right to have a stable climate and a living earth.

  • crazy?no!the only sane people on the planet!

  • soon we won't have any wood

  • Yes we still need to only utilize this sytem for essential motor vehicle services not mass motoring as the forest will be gone in short order.

  • yeah ok, they ran it on wood. this is just a demonstration of principle. but that same setup could easily run on any relatively dry biomass. (corn stalks, wheat chaff, garbage, grass clippings, leftover breakfast.)

so no, the forests won't be gone in short order, but if we play our cards right the landfills could!

  • please help me with my gasifier y tried several time to fire the gas but i cant... help me please...

  • bio gas makes the same amount of pollution

  • Yes, but the bio gas comes from a renewable source (in this case wood), and when a new tree grows up it will absorb all the "pollution" again.

  • simply cool. But wood gas is not the most efficient way to turn wood into usable fuel. i wound if possable to make a make michaine to make biooil. Then your car all you need to do is boil the biooil and burn the biooil vapor.

  • have you tried to use cardboard to make woodgas?

It seems to produce a lot of combustible gas and it starts quickly. for short trips.should be interesting.

  • men va fan... alla jävla jenkar har alltid nåt i mot oss. vilka va d som uppteckte usa igentligen ? va d inte eroper?

  • My Torino had fire in the back, but it didn't have a stove there.

  • When you were refuelling at the end of the movie, can you do this with the engine still running?

  • Yes

  • Seems like a lot of work! And that would be bad if you were out driving and ran out of wood..

  • You go chop down a damn tree! If you run out of gas you can't go refine oil all by yourself

  • And burn wet wood?? Are you a fricken idiot?

  • Did I say chop down a wet ass tree? Are YOU an idiot? hah

  • Haha...fattiga norrlänningar!

  • That's great, well done! How long did it take to build it and do the modification?

  • Two mounths for the first testdrive on woodgas. Four mounths more to get it all completed for the trip around Sweden.

  • whats the consumption?how far does a 100 pounds of wood take you at 50mph?great stuff.thanks.

  • Now is this carbonizing the wood. So its not releasing the carbon into the air. If that is the case then it is environmentally friendly. This is turning wood into a hydrogen type gas for the engine to burn.

Which is no CO2, which is what the process of burning the wood at extremely high heat does. If you burn almost anything at 1000°C(1832°F) it will have virtually no carbon entering the air, and forms charcoal. Which if put back into the ground is extremely useful for plant life.

  • It is environmental friendly as long as you don´t cut down all wood. It lets out CO2. But becouse its not from oil, it does not add extra CO2 to the environment.

The gas contains 20% CO and 20% H2. When it passes the engine, it becomes energy and CO2 + H2O.

  • CO2 is CO2..doesn't matter where it comes from..the earth naturally regulates it

  • Ya budy just like the population growing to 10 billion will be regulated by the planet until the banker, war profiteer, oil moguls, reptile swine you listen to can figure out how to profit from the final judgment day. The gas that should be comming out of the other end of your body is natural too.

  • Russia still converts this mix into methanol using catalyst.

  • Hi sirHOAX , If burn coal or coal powder at 1000 C create any carbon into air? Thanks

  • this is NO carbon crisis...it all a hoax..CO2 is a NATURAL part of the atmosphere...man cant do anything to change that

  • Why don't you go into NYC and tell me carbon monoxide is a natural part of the environment.

Are you really that sheltered? We now know for a fact that water can be used as fuel, and we are still using fossil fuels.

The only hoax is people like yourself spreading disinformation.

  • the ONLY disinformation is the climate change HOAX ..its sad that so many of you are ignorant and believe anything the so called elites tell you ..man CANNOT harm the earth to the point they say ..they are LIARS ..their agenda is simple...to take away freedom and quality of life for everyone but themselves ..and i said CO2 not CO ...do some research

  • So that layer of smog that sits over NYC is healthy? CO2, CO is contributing to these same effects on peoples health. Kids have an alarming rate of asthma, and still increasing. These are facts, not lies. Cancer is at an all time high, you think these levels produced from cars is not doing this? Must be fake, hoax, etc. Yea, sure. Its all a lie.

  • What you see are sulfides. Either way sirhoax is right. Cancer is off the charts and there was almost no cancer many years ago and there is almost no cancer in cultures that have no industry. Using wood/syn/producer gas is not a bad idea. No chemical additives, co neutral. BTW, speaking of cancer, have you heard what they add to jet fuel now?

  • Heja heja! Fantastic how far does your car go on a standard log? :-P

No, I seriously think it is really good what you've done there.

  • Thanks! It uses 10 litres of wood / 10 km.

  • 10 litres of wood 10km!pretty good!whats the vehicle weight?

  • Explain to me again how this is environmentally responsible.

  • Since the car runs on renewable fuel - wood - No fossil fuels are used to fuel the car.

So it does not add extra CO2 into the atmosphere, it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

  • My Corvette is much faster than that Volvo; I mean it wood be no contest if we race. Good try though!

  • Does your Corvette run on wood? 'Cause that's what this film is about, not speed, hp and torque.

  • Nice work! In the early 80's I made a gasifier for my IHC truck and drove about 2400 miles on wood.

  • That sounds really nice! Do you have a picture of the truck and gassifier?
