  • Trains have the right of way over cars, pedestrians and emergency vehicles. Also, the EMS should have their scanner programmed such that it has rr frequencies

  • exactly

  • I remember i was railfanining with my dad, he was looking at a train NS on the other track while i was looking at CSX coming, when i saw a man on the tracks, the CSX train, going 56 MPH, ran over that guy

  • STOP LOOK LSTEN GO (if there is no train)

  • This is stuff I never thought about how emergency vehicles handle railroad crossings. I don't know why. We lived not too far from trains, but being in the suburbs, you think everything stays on roads.

  • civilians can't stop trains but emergency crews can. there are 3 steps to stop a train if a emergency vehicle gets stuck. 6:55 call dispatch. if an emergency vehicle gets stuck just like trucks look to the number and call dispatch they will stop the train. 6:58 Flag them. if a emergency vehicle is still on the tracks pop a fusee and flag them. and 7:11 post a spotter. spotters will close the crossing until the vehicle is off. also numbers have to be up to date.

  • @geo Civilians CAN stop trains if necessary. RUN in both directions to intercept a train far enough down the track that it can slow and stop before colliding with anything fouling the track.

Call 9-1-1 so they can call the railroad.

I have railroad emergency numbers stored in my cell phone and call them once a year to see if still current.

  • @robertgift LOL it only works if the train is more then 4 miles away if it gets inside the kill box of 2 miles the car will explode

  • @geomodelrailroader Incorrect. It depends upon how fast the train is moving, tonnage, downgrade, wet rails, etc.

Even if unable to run far enough down the track in time to signal the train so that it can STOP before a collision, impact may be greatly reduced.

  • @robertgift LOL and atmospheric conditions widen the gap still the kill box is 2 miles

  • @geomodelrailroader So which is it? "widen the gap" or "still 2 miles"?

Your "kill box" can be a matter of meters, depending upon train speed.

  • @robertgift LOL speed and time are the other facters. but it take a loaded train 2 miles to stop.

  • @geomodelrailroader Funny. My loaded train, 7,900 tons, did notake two miles to stop. And it was not even in emergency.

  • @robertgift it could take longer if the train is at full 8 in emergency it takes 1 to 2 miles to stop.

  • @geomodelrailroader Haha Throttle position 8 does not mean high speed.

Factors: Speed, grade, tonnage, wet rails. Abandon your "1 to 2 miles to stop" nonsense.

You want to a train to slow to a stop.

  • @robertgift sorry

  • @robertgift trains can take 1 -2 miles to stop thats a fact

  • @jma10241 Trains can takeven longer. You wanto slowly slow to a stop.

If I can see well in both directions down the track, I do not STOP.

    I SLOW, LOOK, LISTEN

    and continue.

Grade crossing signals arextremely reliable, they "fail safe", but I STILLOOK for trains in case the signals fail toperate.

  • police, paradamedics, firefighters you all must stop at a railroad crossing like everyone else or else you could get kill so dont crossing whith the (o)=(o) lights are blinking please dont if you due you only have 1% chnce of surving a 60 mph freight or passenger 50% if 30 or lower the more of you that go around the gate the less medics and police and firefighters we have meaning more fires will burn more people will get killed and more crimes with no one to do anything, stop at all crossing.

  • In Canada, an ambulance hit a passenger train Budd car, one of the causes was the sirens drowning out the horn and bells and no crossing gates.

  • Although this is sad, it teaches a lesson and informs our fellow first responders how to deal with the concept of railroad crossings and truly how dangerous they can be

  • SAD

  • Glad the sheriff deputy survived. How embarrassing not to be expecting a train and looking.

Didn't see the flashing red (o)=(o)?

    Bells are pedestrian warning.

Idiot driver RETURNING goes around gates not considering another train could be coming? Darwin Award winner.

  • It's pretty scary being a train engineer.

  • same as a pilot, years of boredom punctuated by moments of pure terror

  • Agreed!

  • whats the town name at 6:14

  • The town is called Bourbonnais, Illinois.

  • It feels like you can't have fun trains.

  • Man If i was the engineer that hit the police car I would feel terrible!

  • FIREFIGHTERS ROCK

  • Ya they do Im one also but a train will send you flying like a pebble. Just keep that in mind.

  • fantastic video

  • awesome video some of this stuff is really sad

  • @trainboy32 I AGREE MAN BUT LETS FACE IT PPL CAN BE STUPID THERE ARE COUNTLESS VIDS UP MADE BY OPERATION LIFESAVER AND USTHE RAILFAN COMMUNITY BUT MAN ITS WICKED
