I mostly agree with these composers. When displaying the posters from Morricone's sountracks, I could see a poster from Lolita by Kubrick instead of Lolita by Adrian Lyne, The last is the one Morricone composed the music for.
My Top Ten: 10 James Horner 9 Hans Zimmer 8 Howard Shore 7 John Barry 6 Ennio Morricone 5 Bernard Herman 4 Elmer Bernstein 3 Max Steiner 2 Jerry Goldsmith 1 John Williams
This list is OK, but you leave out so many other brilliant composers, which is dumb-founding. How about Alex North, Murice Jarre, Alfred Newman, James Horner, Miklos Rozsa and Rudolph Kopp? They were brilliant, and so was their work. Thanks for listening.
I myself would have put John Williams at No. 1, with Shore and Zimmer in the top 5 at least. But you're all forgetting possibly the most underrated film composer of the past 30 years: Alan Menken. His works in The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast (his personal best imo) are all extremely powerful and just as good as To Kill a Mockingbird and Out of Africa.
Fumio Hayasaka, Toru Takemitsu, Masaru Sato, Nino Rota, Bernard Herman, Isao Tomita, Henery Manchi and Kaoru Wada for what he did for all of Inuyasha's soundtracks
Very fine list. I personally would take Shore and Greenwood out and place Zbigniew Preisner and Mancini among the best 10. To be honest the list should be of the best 20 so that Miklos Rosza, Charles Chaplin and Nino Rota could also be mentioned. And Luis Bacalov.
@Sanyey Not in my opinion I didn't. I tried to use pieces that are recognizable so that people who are not experts have an idea of some of their best music.
One flaw. Ennio Morricone did not compose for inglorious basterds. Tarantino put his music from other films in his movie just like he does with all his movies.
Some good picks for sure!! I was a bit dismayed at how quickly they went past: hardly had a chance to see what each of them did! I would have put Richard Rogers, or Rogers and Hart and Rogers and Hammerstein in there somewhere, however: he wrote some of my all-time favorite musicals - well, most of them actually!!
yep it would be #3 Zimmer #2 Morricone #1 John Williams :) Bernhard Herrmann had some very atmospheric tunes but there are few I would listen to beside in the movie. I can listen to John Williams every day :)....but thats just my taste...and the darth vader theme fits better to imagine grappin your boss throat with the force :)).....kidding....kind of ;D
Sorry to point out this dude, but first of all the music your playing on Jerry Goldsmith was not composed by him, it was Alexander Courage and that was for the Original TV Series. Secondly, it was Elmer B(e)rnstein, not B(u)rnstein.
Other than that, I agree with most of your choices though I would've added Henry Mancini (Pink Panther), James Horner, and the Newmans: Alfred Newman (20th Century Fox Fanfare), Randy Newman, David Newman and Thomas Newman.
