Natalie D. was amazing as Ann and she did a great job of playing her. I've always been intresant in Henry and Ann's relationship because I felt so bad when i first heard Ann's story til I started looking up and learning what I can about her. Frankly I don't blame for her not wanting to be Henry's other women . I mean my goodness he had so many women. I sometimes wounder what ever really happen to his 1st son Henry Fitzroy . 4 children he could have at least put him in the will.
@TexasCenaGurl henry fitzroy died before king henry viii in 1536, it was rumored that henry was going to support his illegitimate's son as his successor, but henry fitzroy died at age 17 and anyways henry viii had his son a year later, so henry fitzroy's importance as a political pawn would have been diminished since he would never see the throne.
Knowing me and my testy temper, I bet I'd be a dang queen instead of a dang king's dang mistress. IDK if I'd give him that dang prince he wanted or a dang princess, but I would DEFINITELY be practically ruling over the dang king! lawlz
I guess anne was ambitious and clever unlike the other noble women in England (no offense just generalizing)...she realized how the women were treated by the men at those times... however we can say that her ambition and "dangerous" mind were her murderer...

in my view,Jane was the true love of hENRY´S lIFE.With Ann it was more based on sex and passion, while with Jane there was respect, trust and Love.on Henry´s will,he stated wanted to be buried with Jane, the best of his wives.if she didnt died,i believe he would have stayed with her.
The only reason that Henry said that Jane was the best of his wives was because she gave him the one thing he wanted, a son. It has been said that Henry was in love with being in love.
He he loved Anne in the beginning. Very much. He just loved himself and England more. Most things in this world are not simple. If Anne or KoA would have given him a living son, one of them would have been the love of his life, and true wife. I'm sure!
@stokrotka1011 I agree w/ your assessment in part because after Jane Seymour died giving birth to his one & only son, Henry identified Jane as his one true wife and love of his life.

A lot of people arguing about the series not being "historicaly accurate"...Hey who wants to watch hairy women and dirty ugly fat men? It is all about entertaiment not accuracy!
I am not wanted to hurt your feelings about Henry or Anne, but if they would look as propably looked in their time they werent be too atractive, and because of this nobody would have watched the episodes.
maybe anne boleyn was attractive, if she wasn't, there would be no point on Henry being THAT seduced as to give up his kingdom... but maybe he wasn't attractive, even if, some people say, he was athletic by the time he met Anne, then he went fat...
Come on! Read your history books! All the charges that were brought before Anne Boleyn were bullcrap excuses that Henry's council (Lord Cromwell) came up with to free the king. They even put forth the reason of consanginity( close family relations) because Henry had sex with Mary Boleyn. When Henry was in love with her he requested a dipensation from the Pope making it okay to marry her. Also some of the times she was accused of cheating didnt add up. She didnt use black magic!
Yeah, but what is attractive and desirable is relevant to the times. There is a quote from Cromwell, who finally had Anne led to the tower and executed. He referred to her as " That old skinny woman"! But in their time they may have been considered attractive. Elizabeth the I was considered "quite Fetching" in her youth.
Actually it was Eustace Chapuys, the Imperial Ambassador who called Anne `that thin old woman`. And it was Henry himself, who led Anne to her execution, not Cromwell. Only Henry had the authority to execute someone, Cromwell was just his chief minister. People do talk utter nonsense about him though.
Then the quote I read some years ago could've been flawed, cuz it clearly stated Cromwell calling the queen that skinny old woman. Now in the event of her death, Of course Henry signed the paper, But unless you're a mere child completely devoid of any "politico" treachery, it was Cromwell who dug around and gave evidence to the king to committ his sin. But yeah, the king did it, cromwell led the hunt on his behalf.
Anne had very few friends at court, and her enemies were some of the most powerful people in the land (from her own uncle, the Duke of Norfolk to the Exeters and the Montague families). They were clamouring to bring her down, so really, Cromwell didn`t have to do an awful lot. As for the torture allegations. They`re only mentioned in one contemporary source, and that same source (the Spanish Chronicle), also claims Cromwell was pivotal in the downfall of Kat Howard!
you had to have blond hair/blue eyes/pale skin back then to considered attractive. annes sister mary fit that description but anne is described as skinny, dark in complexion/ dark hair/dark eyes and very skinny with no breast. so she had to use her wit to gain mens attention
lol you know what movie regarding the tudors/boleyn family was so disappointing (in terms of costumes - GOD, they were atrocious)? the other boleyn girl!

well in those days women were told wat to do by the men in their families and anne was told she had to make the king fall in love with her even tho she was in love with henry percy. women had no rights in those days and I think people judge anne because henry put catherine aside for anne but really anne didn't hav much choise in the matter.
It sounds to me like you are going by what you saw in the movie 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. Just thought you should know, this movie is very different from what actually happened in history.
Anne only encourged Henry's attention out of revenge for his not allowing her marriage to Lord Percy, and for the way he treated her sister. Though unluckily she fell in love. You can't blame her for Henry's cruel treatment of Katherine, blame his ministers who showed him the texts in Leviticus. Anne was conviniantly there, she loved him and Henry KNEW that. Both ladies were victims! Her coy attitude was merely to protect her reputation so, if things went badly she still had it.
Excuse me! Next you'll be saying Anne Boleyn was guilty of treason. Anne may have started out to make a fool of the king, but she fell in love. Besides, Anne's treatment of Mary was to protect her daughter. Any mother will do ANYTHING to protect their child. Something that Henry actually encouraged Jane to do when she requested Mary return to court. So it wasn't like Henry was father of the C16th.
Neither of us were there, we have just taken facts and created very different opinions. You shouldn't say other peoples opinions are rubbish, its bad manners and well, even if you don't respect that person's point of view you don't rubbish them.
No I didn't I just exclaimed shock at the hatred that was being shown here, by saying: 'Excuse me! Next you'll be saying Anne was guilty of treason.' There was no intention of rubbishing anyones opinion.
And I'm not going to answer again, this isn't fair on the other posters. This is going to far.
you cant really blame anne, well ya but not really. back then daughters didn't really get a say so in what they would like to do. anne's father practically prostitued her to Henry so that he could get control.

Karma is a bitch. Anne took Henry from Katherine and gained nothing but pure hell.Everything he did to Katherine,he did to Anne:Infidelity, disinterest, cheating on her with her lady in waiting. Jane Seymour was Anne's karma.I think Queen Katherine got out while the getting was good. After twenty years of marriage, she should've been glad to get rid of the lunatic, she was a born princess and could've returned to Spain with Mary, but her pride and religion wouldn't allow her to accept it.
Anne played her part in the story of England's rise to power and prominence in world affairs. She was truly a remarkable woman, so much so that she was perceived as a great threat, especially to Catholics. Oh yes, she was executed with a sword by a French expert
I wonder how far the series will go. Will they do his entire reign or pretty much everything up to Anne then quit. With the writers strike going on, we may not know.
yes, but Anne was noted for being executed by the sword by a french swordsman...if they did in fact have her being killed by axe it would be another historical inaccuracy
I was replying to another poster who said that nobles were executed with an axe. Which is true, obviously, but he didn't seem to know that Anne had been executed with a sword.
If they screw that up, it will be their worst inaccuracy yet, because the sword is important to her story. It represents her roots in France (where the sword was used, no the axe) and makes her that much more unique.

I agree with Bullymommy. Anne got cocky and didn't see that if Henry could destroy Catherine so heartlessly,he was just as capable of doing that to her.I think he had a sexual obsession with her,not real love and once he got what he had so thirsted after, well,as my granny used say,the bloom was off the rose!
Anne acted demure, shy, and controllable during the courtship to keep King Henry's attention. When she got married, she showed her true self, baffling King Henry who believed her act.
Jane Seymour was every bit as ambitious as Anne but she had thing Anne didn't:She knew she was dealing with a mercurial and egomaniacal nut. She knew when to shut her mouth I can't believe that history calls Jane a doormat. With a man like King Henry, ladies,WE all would been docile as a sheep! Jane used that persona to keep her head intact and I don't blame her.
i love the idea presented by several authors that Anne created her own fate. Never before could a queen be put aside the way Katherine was, and it was Anne's fatal flaw that she didn't see (or didn't prepare for) her own eventual abandonment by Henry. In a way, she helped create that monster...
As well, it was unfortunate that Henry had all these charges trumped up against Anne in the end, in order to get rid of her. Then Jane Seymour comes along, gets married to him, has the desired heir and dies afterwards.
The only justice to this was that Elizabeth I was a fantastic ruler.
I think, in my humble opinion, that Henry in his desperate need to get an male heir, began down a path that had no return. Anne's family was very ambitious and it is a shame, but history has always favoured men, rather then women. Women were pawns, to be traded and discarded at a moment's notice.
Quite a few debates are arising between Jane and Anne.
Although the tudors isn't true to it's every detail,I think that it shows the true extent towards how desperate Henry was becoming for an heir. More importantly, I think that he learnt of the complications of being granted a divorce from Catherine. Perhaps getting rid of Anne the way he did seemed the simplist option, as horrid as it may seem!
How can we judge people who have different values in life to us?
The centuries old debates were refuled with this show: What really happened? My mom says theirs 3 sides to every story: the 2 arguing & the truth. LOL. But I do believe mostly Henry had the most pull in what transpired with all his wives.
I think that blonde lady at 0:33 is Jane Seymour because a guy who looks like Henry is kissing her down her back. I hate Jane Seymour, God forgive the whore, because she wanted just what Anne wanted: to control and be powerful. Wasn't woman enough, and when she tried to meddle with things Henry threatened her with divorce, etc. Actually, she's slightly luckier because she didn't get to be tired of Henry and he of her.
Ugh Jane, plain faced Jane. (People say that 'Plain Jane' came from Jane Seymour.) She was the luckiest of all of King Henry's wives; she died before King Henry got bored of her.
All of those charges were false. She didn't fuck any other than Henry. Maybe she did have an affair with Thomas Wyatt, but who cares? She only had an affair with him BEFORE they got married. Excuse the language, but I'm kind of pissed about everything that happened to Queen Anne. Poor her, looking at that whore Jane Seymour.
I doubt she had an affair with Wyatt, at any point. She had more sense than that. It would have destroyed her reputation and prospects if even a whisper of it got out.
At least Jane Seymour got a fitting end - what was it, three days of labour, and without anaesthetic? It's rather ironic that after all the trouble Henry went to to get his male heir, his son by Jane died at age 15, while his daughter by Anne went on to become one of the greatest monarchs England ever had.
Its not fair to call Jane a whore Im no fan of hers but she & Anne werent that different Anne was just better at intrigue & politics Anne knew the risks she she made a play for the throne & the blame is on Henry not Jane just like Anne isnt fully responible for what Katherine suffered
Some say Anne had little to do with what happened to Katherine & Mary If she accepted the divorce Henry prepared a generous severance package But Catherine rightly choose to fight him & he punished her for it but I dont think Kat or Marys plight kept Anne up at night either
That may be true but Anne's treatment of Mary was terrible and out of spite because she was Catherine's daughter. Jane Seymour brought Mary back into Henry's life in a favorable light.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's true. And, people, how can you say "Anne had nothing to do with it"? ANne had Henry in the palm of her hand; if she wanted to be nice to Katherine than she could have told him so. The things she did to Mary were undeniably her fault, and inexcusable.
Oh, Jane Seymour apparently rebuffed Henry's advances until she was betrothed to him (however, we see how Henry is portrayed as virile and manly). Jane Seymour was one of the lucky ones, she had the heir, but passed away.
yeoldtune most people here would think me darkladyathena would agree with you because many here are ignorant on my facts, they think I hate anne.
I do not hate her but I dont victimize her for me as well as the others she was a human to, and jane seymour was not loved by henry, henry loved no one but himself he did this action you said out of respect because she provide him a male heir.
He was buried with her because he couldn't be buried beside any of his other wives. Katherine (because their marriage was annulled), Anne and Catherine Howard (because their marriages were annulled and they were both beheaded), Anne of Cleves was still alive, and so was Catherine Parr. By process of elimination that leaves Jane.
no henry wanted to be buried beside jane. he considered her to be his most true and devout wife because she gave him what she promised a son. all his other wives did not so he didn't care for them as much as he did jane
Interesting note on Ann of Cleves. It was said that she was henry's favorite in a "friend" status. She was clumsy and after they divorced, he kept her on in the court and she lived out her days peacebly and well cared for by him. Just kinda cool I thought.
I think, according to some books I've read, that Henry indulged in two affairs while Anne was pregnant. Anne got herself so incensed that Henry stopped (for the sake of the pregnancy). Hope this helps!
YOu can barely make out the blond's face Henry played around during Annes Pregnancies she could be Mary or Margaret Shelton or the dreaded Jane Seymour
Dreaded because when she shows up its over for Anne Jane pretended to be obedient but she wanted to manipulate & control Henry like Anne did but she wasnt woman enough to do it & when Henry threatened her she gave up
well she used the same card (kind of) to win Henry Viii like anne did vs Catalina de Aragon, in the end jane is not bitch whore villain no she is not a victim either (far from it) she like anne and kat of aragona and the rest of the wives, were just intruments for the advancement of men and most important jane and all the wives were human trying to do as best as they could, yes they did step over people and did bad things, they also had good.
True... it could be. But I would think it's Jane because most ladies-in-waiting in Catherine's and Anne's court had blonde hair. It MIGHT be Mary Shelton.
it's probably the beheading from the last season -- they were probably still shooting the last episodedes when this was released. Even last season the footage from the trailers was all in the first few episodes.
there is a movie about the tudors??? sweet! that was my fav time period to study about! i used to have all his wives and what happened to them memorized but now i cant remember...
Nah, I think it's implying that Anne was killed, even if that's probably where the scene was from. But would it kill to be historically accurate with trailers?
I agree with you since Thomas More died for his principle of the catholic church being the one true church and just could not condone Henry's break with Rome to be with Anne. It would make more sense for it to be Thomas.
Well it was said that Jane Seymour was a shy prime young lady, so i don't see her jumping into bed with Henry so soon, but alas i love this Series for the entertainment, acting and Jonathan RM(HOTT!) not for the historical accuracy :)
Actually, Anne catching Henry and Jane kissing is what caused her last miscarriage. I don't know about jumping into bed, but Jane and Henry were formally engaged less than 24 hrs after Anne was killed, and were married about 10 days after that. Shy? Not so much.

Actually by the time he was courting Anne Bullen he was gaining weight, it was only his first wife, Catalina, who was married to him when he was young and slim
Actually, it is prefectly correct to use both. Catheirne, is the modernised spelling, and indeed Catheirne herself never signed herself "Katherine" but "Katharine" or sometimes "Katharina" Bullen was used by the Bullen/Boleyn family until Anne's rise to power, it is a prefectly acceptable spelling. Anne never signed herself as "Anna", it was simply the Latin version of her name

Neither of us were there, we have just taken facts and created very different opinions. You shouldn't say other peoples opinions are rubbish, its bad manners and well, even if you don't respect that person's point of view you don't rubbish them.

If I recall correctly it was you who first who said my opinions were wrong, so in future take your own advise.
TonksPinkHairedGirl 3 years ago

Oh yes, she was executed with a sword by a French expert
ekateri28 4 years ago 5
I wonder how far the series will go. Will they do his entire reign or pretty much everything up to Anne then quit. With the writers strike going on, we may not know.

I really hope they don't have Anne executed with an axe. That would be terrible, stupid writing.
tuesdayweek 4 years ago
noble people were executed that way at that time
jewish1972 4 years ago
yes, but Anne was noted for being executed by the sword by a french swordsman...if they did in fact have her being killed by axe it would be another historical inaccuracy
TexasRepublicBuff 4 years ago 2
i didnt know that her head was cutted with sword and not with axe.
jewish1972 4 years ago 2
Anne Boleyn wasn't. An executioner was brought from France who used a sword.
tuesdayweek 4 years ago 3
Anne Boleyn wasn't what?
TexasRepublicBuff 4 years ago

Kitty273 4 years ago
yeah totally true
TonksPinkHairedGirl 3 years ago
Jane Seymour was every bit as ambitious as Anne but she had thing Anne didn't:She knew she was dealing with a mercurial and egomaniacal nut. She knew when to shut her mouth I can't believe that history calls Jane a doormat. With a man like King Henry, ladies,WE all would been docile as a sheep! Jane used that persona to keep her head intact and I don't blame her.
Kitty273 4 years ago
once Katherine Sforza, duchess of Milan, said, when asked to marry king Heinry VIII of England: "to marry him, i´ll need to have at least 2 heads!"
jewish1972 4 years ago
i love the idea presented by several authors that Anne created her own fate. Never before could a queen be put aside the way Katherine was, and it was Anne's fatal flaw that she didn't see (or didn't prepare for) her own eventual abandonment by Henry. In a way, she helped create that monster...
bullymommy26 4 years ago
As well, it was unfortunate that Henry had all these charges trumped up against Anne in the end, in order to get rid of her. Then Jane Seymour comes along, gets married to him, has the desired heir and dies afterwards.
The only justice to this was that Elizabeth I was a fantastic ruler.
Agenteee 4 years ago 4
I think, in my humble opinion, that Henry in his desperate need to get an male heir, began down a path that had no return. Anne's family was very ambitious and it is a shame, but history has always favoured men, rather then women. Women were pawns, to be traded and discarded at a moment's notice.
Agenteee 4 years ago
apity, cause many women have proved very valuable in history.
jewish1972 4 years ago
Quite a few debates are arising between Jane and Anne.
Although the tudors isn't true to it's every detail,I think that it shows the true extent towards how desperate Henry was becoming for an heir. More importantly, I think that he learnt of the complications of being granted a divorce from Catherine. Perhaps getting rid of Anne the way he did seemed the simplist option, as horrid as it may seem!
How can we judge people who have different values in life to us?
jennibiscuit 4 years ago
I LOVE this show! Cant wait for it.
The centuries old debates were refuled with this show: What really happened? My mom says theirs 3 sides to every story: the 2 arguing & the truth. LOL. But I do believe mostly Henry had the most pull in what transpired with all his wives.
ShinbiBelldandy 4 years ago
I think that blonde lady at 0:33 is Jane Seymour because a guy who looks like Henry is kissing her down her back. I hate Jane Seymour, God forgive the whore, because she wanted just what Anne wanted: to control and be powerful. Wasn't woman enough, and when she tried to meddle with things Henry threatened her with divorce, etc. Actually, she's slightly luckier because she didn't get to be tired of Henry and he of her.

CotyStargazer 4 years ago
All of those charges were false. She didn't fuck any other than Henry. Maybe she did have an affair with Thomas Wyatt, but who cares? She only had an affair with him BEFORE they got married. Excuse the language, but I'm kind of pissed about everything that happened to Queen Anne. Poor her, looking at that whore Jane Seymour.
DoreetoSanchez 4 years ago
I doubt she had an affair with Wyatt, at any point. She had more sense than that. It would have destroyed her reputation and prospects if even a whisper of it got out.
At least Jane Seymour got a fitting end - what was it, three days of labour, and without anaesthetic? It's rather ironic that after all the trouble Henry went to to get his male heir, his son by Jane died at age 15, while his daughter by Anne went on to become one of the greatest monarchs England ever had.

Its not fair to call Jane a whore Im no fan of hers but she & Anne werent that different Anne was just better at intrigue & politics Anne knew the risks she she made a play for the throne & the blame is on Henry not Jane just like Anne isnt fully responible for what Katherine suffered

anne isnt toally responsable for catheriens suffering true, but she was mainly
TonksPinkHairedGirl 3 years ago
Some say Anne had little to do with what happened to Katherine & Mary If she accepted the divorce Henry prepared a generous severance package But Catherine rightly choose to fight him & he punished her for it but I dont think Kat or Marys plight kept Anne up at night either
justlooking213 3 years ago 2
That may be true but Anne's treatment of Mary was terrible and out of spite because she was Catherine's daughter. Jane Seymour brought Mary back into Henry's life in a favorable light.

She was the best wife for him: had a son, kept his affection and he asked to be buried with her.

He was buried with her because he couldn't be buried beside any of his other wives. Katherine (because their marriage was annulled), Anne and Catherine Howard (because their marriages were annulled and they were both beheaded), Anne of Cleves was still alive, and so was Catherine Parr. By process of elimination that leaves Jane.
scarletttardis 2 years ago 10
no henry wanted to be buried beside jane. he considered her to be his most true and devout wife because she gave him what she promised a son. all his other wives did not so he didn't care for them as much as he did jane

I'm just going off what Starkey said. But whether or not Henry truly loved Jane, the process of elimination theory works too.
scarletttardis 2 years ago
Interesting note on Ann of Cleves. It was said that she was henry's favorite in a "friend" status. She was clumsy and after they divorced, he kept her on in the court and she lived out her days peacebly and well cared for by him. Just kinda cool I thought.
TheReformed1 2 years ago 2
I think, according to some books I've read, that Henry indulged in two affairs while Anne was pregnant. Anne got herself so incensed that Henry stopped (for the sake of the pregnancy). Hope this helps!

YOu can barely make out the blond's face Henry played around during Annes Pregnancies she could be Mary or Margaret Shelton or the dreaded Jane Seymour

Dreaded because when she shows up its over for Anne Jane pretended to be obedient but she wanted to manipulate & control Henry like Anne did but she wasnt woman enough to do it & when Henry threatened her she gave up
justlooking213 4 years ago
well she used the same card (kind of) to win Henry Viii like anne did vs Catalina de Aragon, in the end jane is not bitch whore villain no she is not a victim either (far from it) she like anne and kat of aragona and the rest of the wives, were just intruments for the advancement of men and most important jane and all the wives were human trying to do as best as they could, yes they did step over people and did bad things, they also had good.
DarkLadyAthena1 4 years ago
True... it could be.

Thomas Moore wasn't beheaded until 1545.
supergirl011 4 years ago
Thomas More was executed in 1535.
littlemisssunnydale 4 years ago 2
I agree with you since Thomas More died for his principle of the catholic church being the one true church and just could not condone Henry's break with Rome to be with Anne. It would make more sense for it to be Thomas.

Actually, Anne catching Henry and Jane kissing is what caused her last miscarriage. I don't know about jumping into bed, but Jane and Henry were formally engaged less than 24 hrs after Anne was killed, and were married about 10 days after that. Shy? Not so much.

You need to read up on your history slightly closer.
And today we use 'Boleyn' and 'Katherine'. If you're gonna use 'Bullen', you might as well use 'Anna'.
jaidemm 3 years ago 6
Actually, it is prefectly correct to use both. Catheirne, is the modernised spelling, and indeed Catheirne herself never signed herself "Katherine" but "Katharine" or sometimes "Katharina" Bullen was used by the Bullen/Boleyn family until Anne's rise to power, it is a prefectly acceptable spelling. Anne never signed herself as "Anna", it was simply the Latin version of her name
katharinethequene 3 years ago
And what doesthe spelling of names have to do with reading up on History? Spelling was subjective in the 16th centuary.
