@getbuttkik You sir are a fucking moron..... these crashes were not needed to improve safety......... This loss of life was not.............. Do you even race?
@Caferacingrocks wow are you stupid? Are you fucking saying these crashes do not improve racing? I mean, seriously? Thats like fucking saying " We dont learn from our mistakes." I mean, for example, take sukuza raceway. Remember those motorcycles accident that happened? What did they do? They shut down everything in order to make it more safe to race. Well, sir, NO SHIT they're going to improve everything after a crash. And no, I do not do pro racing, I however, have been on the racetracks.
@getbuttkik re read how you said it... racers these days should be thankful for these crashes.... I sure as shit wouldn't be.. Sure they put everything under review once again though I believe a clever track engineer + mechanic/vehicle engineer if they sat down and really scratched through potential weak spots or track issues then this is not really needed. No loss of life is needed in my opinion
@Caferacingrocks By that statement, I believe that those who died in these crashes are heroes to those who do modern racing. And I'm not endorsing these accidents. All I'm saying is that the people who died on the tracks are heroes to those who are currently racing nowadays or have been a pro racer. They should be thankful due to these unpreventable accidents so that they can learn from their mistakes and to make it more safe.
@blackjack21211 Its Indy actually. Thats from the 1958 indy 500, Pat O'Connor was killed in the crash and Jerry Unser (who died the next year at Indy) actually survuved that wild ride over the wall. O'Connor was in the very first car to flip at the beginning of the crash.
I'll be honest i really dont think you should have made this video without stating who the deceased are... i honestly find it disrespectful that you dont even know the names of these people.
gladiators of past history died to entertain the masses. human nature lures us to watch other humans risk there lives, in the hope of seeing near death, but gladly we now dont relish in it .a poiniant compilation with a moving sound track.
1:35 was 1955 le mans i think 86 of the crowd died by the engine, wheels and front axle flying into the croud at 150/180 mph. 7 were decapitated by body trimmings
i just hope the ones involved in fireballs died on impact there cant be anything worse than spending your last minutes dealing with the pain of burning alive
@24chancer0:01 Gordon Smiley; 0:10 Eddie Sachs and Dave MacDonald; 0:36 Pat O'Connor; 1:18 Eric Martin; 1:24 Shorty Cantlon; 1:33 Pierre Levegh and 83 specators; 1:59 Talmadge Prince; 2:06 John Woolfe; 2:35 Frank Lockhart; 2:44 Jeff Krosnoff and Gary Avrin; 2:53 Bill Horstmeyer; 3:00 Buren Skeen; 3:14 Jovy Marcelo; 3:31 Henry Surtees; 3:52 Friday Hassler; 4:04 Scott Brayton RIP ALL DRIVERS WHO HAVE DIED RACING!
In a way you paid tribute by accident to a man who wasn't a driver but who also died tragically. The man standing by the Borg Warner Trophy wearing the suit was Sid Collins the first radio announcer for the Indy 500. He wasn't Sachs or MacDonald from the bad wreck in '64. Collins actually committed suicide after he found out he was terminally ill. Not being critical just pointing out a little known fact,
@goodwilltubing Talmadge Prince: Died on February 10, 1970; Race: Twin 125 at Daytona International Speedway; Vehicle & number: Dodge Daytona #78. When his engine blew up, the oil got on his rear wheels, causing him to slide. Bill Seifert, who was following Prince, also got into the oil and was unable to avoid hitting Prince's car on the driver's side door. Prince was killed instantly. Seifert was hospitalized in good condition with a concussion and bruises.
RIP, and no offence but Pierre Levegh's ( 1:33 ) is way worse because over 80 other people die, the crash almost killed racing altogether because spectators were scared they would die if they watched.
That is one of the big reasons why stands were moved further back, away from the fences, was to prevent accidents like Leveigh's. And yes, you're right, that is ranked in the top five when it comes to the most horrific track accidents of all time, mainly because it wasn't limited to just drivers.
It was the most FATAL accident in motorsport history. Nothing comes close to its body count, forget top five, its number one in terms of horrific crashes.. lead into by a pile though, its not the most shocking (sudden fatal crash from out of no where, or extremely graphic like Tom Pryce taking out the marshal) or the most disturbing or tragic... that would have to go to Dave Purdy's futile attempts to save roger Williamson.
@Apis4 There, I would have to agree, Dave Purdy's attempts to save Roger Williamson when he had his fatal crash were futile, and Tom Pryce taking out the marshal was one of the most tragic. And finally, yes Leveigh's crash at Le Mans is the single most fatal in motorsports history.
levighs crash was fare 'worse' in terms of body count (84 ppl I believe) and damage to motorsports image (Switzerland banned racing immediately follwoing that crash, alot of other nations regulated it to the point of almst killing it in those nations too)...
@ma55aracin9 Thanks Ma55, I knew it was something like that, just couldnt remember of the top of my head, but was close ;-)... in F1/Indy (I think from 1950 to 1960 Indy was part of the F1 World Dirvers Chanpinship), one of the most disturbing, yet not particularly as immediately graphic, and by far the worst, was Wolfgan Von Tripps 1961 Crash at Monza, which killed Von Tripps and 15 spectators, incjuring scores of others.
@12Cyclone Actually, if you want the worst, most fiery crash in motorsports, check out the 1966 crash that took the life of Fireball Roberts sometime, that one was nasty.
@bwee11 I'm not being a hater but I dont think you can call these guys heroes for dying in race car accidents. While it is something to pursue your dream and to perhaps even give your life in such pursuit, these guys left families and friends behind to clean up the mess. As the son of a man killed drag racing, I can say that narcissist is a better label than hero.
@rileyboy00 do you even know what narcissism is? they are people who can't get enough of themselves, who think only of themselves. I don't think that is the proper label for ALL drivers.
