a 2006 gs430 can go from 0-60 mph in 5.7. After 2 years this time drops to about 5.4 seconds. It is a luxury family sedan that is smooth, silky and confident. But as soon as you drop the hammer it turns into a street brawler. the harder and faster you drive it, the smaller and more agile it seems to get.

To get similar performance and luxury, you have to drop another 20K on a german BMW, Audi or Merc

I have a lexus gs300 & a gs400 noting broke and didn't need any maintaince for 2 years except for changing tires, and simple things even repairing it is cheap. while my mercedec need's maintaince every 4 months and very expensive to repair.

The 335's hp is for efficiency, longevity, and a wide powerband - not high strung RPMs of the old Jap cars (torque wins-BMW's 295lbs comes on at 1800rpm-easier to drive fast with finesse) The bigger heavier Audi S6 is just getting started at 60mph and then blows the IS350 out of the water. Depreciation costs make your G35 point moot in less than two years - and Audi is based on a Passat, but it was stomping Pikes Peak Rallies in AWD when Nissan was still called Datsun.

Correction: 300lb-ft at 1400rpm and yes that is one of its strong suits.

It gets around 24mpg mixed, the old 300zx TT averaged around 21 and the supra TT averaged 22 (from msn autos). I guess direct injection, lower boost, dual vanos, valvetronic, etc. can only eek out a couple extra mpg overall than 10 year old japanese cars.

You say the S6 is "just getting started", but every single source I can find lists the IS350 as having a faster quarter mile time as well.

The S6 according to Road and track does 0-60 in 5.1 and the G35 in 5.5 - the S6, not the RS6 which will shred any Infiniti product, but the mid grade S6 - The 300zs and Supras were light weight crumplers with no safety systems - the BMWs are designed for Autobahn wrecks at very high speeds and yes, there is a MPG penalty. Check the 0-150mph times and again, realize the difference.

Nissan 300zx: 3,550 lbs Toyota Supra: 3,515 lbs BMW 335: 3,561 lbs. I very highly doubt having an extra 11 lbs over a 300zx and 46 over a Supra will do anything. Even a heavier passenger would compensate for that small a weight difference, so I'm not quite sure how the 300zx and Supras are "light weight crumplers".

German TUV wouldn't approve either car for the Autobahn until more safety systems were standard because of poor crash test results - those added systems were 20 year old Mercedes tech. Check "Mercedes Inventions" here on youtube for the 1minute version - pictures of the Supra and dummy after testing lead to "crumpler" description - I assumed weight was the reason but it seems poor engineering instead, apologies.

Poor safety engineering-as far as reliablilty, again, it's economic warfare to copy the very expensively researched systems of others and market them as your own. The Germans have been at the wrong end of that train since 1987 - and its bound to take its toll - If patent laws were enforced these past 20 years, Toyota would not be anywhere near as successful because they'd need an R&D dept. in addition to the huge marketing dept.

What patents have been broken? When Lexus released the GS430 - Lexus themselves had to patent over 100 NEW things. They don't look or feel like Mercedes or BMW. They are quiet and dampened.

Toyota introduced the generic version of Mercedes S classs in 1991. The same year Mercedes showed a laser-distance cruise control system off at the Euro car show. MB then spends 9 years working with lawyers & expensive testing, introducing radar cruise control on the 2000 Sclass - two years later it's on Lexus. One of thousands of examples.

Toyota patents are for marketing purposes ("we had to patent 100 things to build this car"BS). Try: 5m_x1MlMR-Y and then show me Toyota's version is.

I actually said IS350 compared to S6, but some sources even list the G35 as being faster. Edmunds lists the S6 as having a 5.7 second 0-60 and 14 second 1/4 mile while they list the G35 as having a 5.6 second 0-60 and 13.9 second 1/4 mile. Pretty impressive considering the 1.7 liter, 4 cylinder, 129 HP advantage the Audi has.

It is, but keep in mind the Lexus is contrived for US marke, which values 0-60 and 1/4 times - but the S6 has to impress the Europeans, who place greater emphasis on the 70mph-150mph performance - personally I like passing tourists on backroads so I prefer the stats that start at 60mph and that's where the S6 is happiest - lets check the lap times for both cars on the Nurburgring.

You want to talk about AWD systems, check out the ATTESA in the G35, based on the Skyline in Japan. It sends almost all torque to the rear during normal driving, up to 50% to the front when accelerating, and the majority of torque to the outer wheels during a turn to prevent understeer. A 50/50 split just isn't impressive.

The 1986 system on the Audi sends up to 98% to one tire if that tire has the most traction - the fourth generation is that much more refined (60% rear biased under normal driving) - the mid 80s supercar Porsche 959 did the same, as have all 911 carrera 4s and turbos - so, to continue the theme, the Nissan system is entirely copied from the Germans - as is every significent system so far introduced by them (besides self-parking)

You are comparing resale value of a BMW at the end of its (99-05) cycle with a G35 at (05-) beginning of its model cycle. Plus greater volume of 330is were sold compared to G35s (for a reason). and i've never had any problem with the car since i bought it back then although i beat the crap out of it every now and then.

but to have an american muscle car you sould be committed to the car, and before you get one you should know it's (most muscle cars) not for everyday use and you should take care of it and spend money on it.

there both great yet souldn't be compared to one another.
