@VideoMan342x Whose shit BMW? Have some respect for good cars. The point of a Lexus is entirely different than that of a BMW, regardless of the way they market against each other.
a 2006 gs430 can go from 0-60 mph in 5.7. After 2 years this time drops to about 5.4 seconds. It is a luxury family sedan that is smooth, silky and confident. But as soon as you drop the hammer it turns into a street brawler. the harder and faster you drive it, the smaller and more agile it seems to get.
To get similar performance and luxury, you have to drop another 20K on a german BMW, Audi or Merc
I have a lexus gs300 & a gs400 noting broke and didn't need any maintaince for 2 years except for changing tires, and simple things even repairing it is cheap. while my mercedec need's maintaince every 4 months and very expensive to repair.
Lexus=LuxuryExportUS - born of a marketing gimmick to sell fancy camrys to gullible americans (you) - Toyota began by reverse engineering Mercedes and copying the German looks - more so than ever today - besides self parking, name me a Lexus feature that wasn't on a German car 5 years before. Even the shift gate pattern is from a 1972 Mercedes - wake-up suckers
German engineers drive to work at 140mph through the Alps-Japanese engineers get stuffed in a subway car by guys in white gloves - someone else pointed out that heads of state of well over 100 countries are in a Benz (even the Pope) - Name me a President, Premier, or Monarch that rolls in a Lexus - name me a car editor that enjoys one over a BMW or Audi(despite 80% revenue from Japanese advertisers). Youtube numbers-views and videos-prove it too. And good luck when that Dodge runs into you.
Why is it that the 335 with all of BMW's technology has a twin turbo inline-6 that doesn't even make the power a twin-turbo Supra or Nissan 300zx made 10 years ago?
Why is it that the Audi S6 with a 5.2L V10 is slower than a Lexus IS350 with a 3.5L V6?
Why is it that a BMW 328i that's smaller, far less powerful, and much more expensive to maintain than an Infiniti G35 costs more?
Why does everybody complain that the ES is a Camry yet ignore the fact that an Audi A6 is essentially a Passat?
The 335's hp is for efficiency, longevity, and a wide powerband - not high strung RPMs of the old Jap cars (torque wins-BMW's 295lbs comes on at 1800rpm-easier to drive fast with finesse) The bigger heavier Audi S6 is just getting started at 60mph and then blows the IS350 out of the water. Depreciation costs make your G35 point moot in less than two years - and Audi is based on a Passat, but it was stomping Pikes Peak Rallies in AWD when Nissan was still called Datsun.
Correction: 300lb-ft at 1400rpm and yes that is one of its strong suits.
It gets around 24mpg mixed, the old 300zx TT averaged around 21 and the supra TT averaged 22 (from msn autos). I guess direct injection, lower boost, dual vanos, valvetronic, etc. can only eek out a couple extra mpg overall than 10 year old japanese cars.
You say the S6 is "just getting started", but every single source I can find lists the IS350 as having a faster quarter mile time as well.
The S6 according to Road and track does 0-60 in 5.1 and the G35 in 5.5 - the S6, not the RS6 which will shred any Infiniti product, but the mid grade S6 - The 300zs and Supras were light weight crumplers with no safety systems - the BMWs are designed for Autobahn wrecks at very high speeds and yes, there is a MPG penalty. Check the 0-150mph times and again, realize the difference.
Nissan 300zx: 3,550 lbs Toyota Supra: 3,515 lbs BMW 335: 3,561 lbs. I very highly doubt having an extra 11 lbs over a 300zx and 46 over a Supra will do anything. Even a heavier passenger would compensate for that small a weight difference, so I'm not quite sure how the 300zx and Supras are "light weight crumplers".
German TUV wouldn't approve either car for the Autobahn until more safety systems were standard because of poor crash test results - those added systems were 20 year old Mercedes tech. Check "Mercedes Inventions" here on youtube for the 1minute version - pictures of the Supra and dummy after testing lead to "crumpler" description - I assumed weight was the reason but it seems poor engineering instead, apologies.
Poor engineering? Check the Forbes list of 14 most unreliable luxury cars, Volvo XC90 Volkswagen Touareg Saab 9-3 Porsche Cayenne Mercedes SL Mercedes S-class Mercedes E-class Mercedes CLK Lincoln Navigator LandRover Freelander Jaguar X-type Jaguar S-type BMW 7-series BMW 5-series You might count 8 German cars on there- over half. And yet how many Japanese cars? 0. In fact in that same article they talk about how the Lexus RX330 and LS430 have excellent records.
Poor safety engineering-as far as reliablilty, again, it's economic warfare to copy the very expensively researched systems of others and market them as your own. The Germans have been at the wrong end of that train since 1987 - and its bound to take its toll - If patent laws were enforced these past 20 years, Toyota would not be anywhere near as successful because they'd need an R&D dept. in addition to the huge marketing dept.
What patents have been broken? When Lexus released the GS430 - Lexus themselves had to patent over 100 NEW things. They don't look or feel like Mercedes or BMW. They are quiet and dampened.
A lot of BMW drivers hate that, but that's Lexus' thing. It's what they do.
The only thing Lexus is STEALING is market share ;)
Toyota introduced the generic version of Mercedes S classs in 1991. The same year Mercedes showed a laser-distance cruise control system off at the Euro car show. MB then spends 9 years working with lawyers & expensive testing, introducing radar cruise control on the 2000 Sclass - two years later it's on Lexus. One of thousands of examples.
Toyota patents are for marketing purposes ("we had to patent 100 things to build this car"BS). Try: 5m_x1MlMR-Y and then show me Toyota's version is.
Nor Acuras or Infinitis. The European cars may have the cache, and the American cars may have the appeal of being American, but when it comes down to it the Japense are the ones who got it right.
I actually said IS350 compared to S6, but some sources even list the G35 as being faster. Edmunds lists the S6 as having a 5.7 second 0-60 and 14 second 1/4 mile while they list the G35 as having a 5.6 second 0-60 and 13.9 second 1/4 mile. Pretty impressive considering the 1.7 liter, 4 cylinder, 129 HP advantage the Audi has.
It is, but keep in mind the Lexus is contrived for US marke, which values 0-60 and 1/4 times - but the S6 has to impress the Europeans, who place greater emphasis on the 70mph-150mph performance - personally I like passing tourists on backroads so I prefer the stats that start at 60mph and that's where the S6 is happiest - lets check the lap times for both cars on the Nurburgring.
An '04 G35 can have as high as a $24,500 resale from a $29,000 original, which is actually better than an equivalent '04 3-series, which is up to $23,800 from $30,500.
Oh, and I highly doubt anything that won the Pikes Peak Rally from Audi holds any similarity to the Passat/A6 of today.
From Road and Track magazine on the S6 "Since the days of Walter Röhrl sliding the Audi Sport Quattro S1 up Pikes Peak, Audi has been about powerful cars applying their might through four wheels to a low-coefficient surface" - this is the 4th gen. quattro system with a real 50% differential, not a pretend AWD system like others use-its heavy but worth the penalty, accelerate at the beginning of a turn rather than the apex.
You want to talk about AWD systems, check out the ATTESA in the G35, based on the Skyline in Japan. It sends almost all torque to the rear during normal driving, up to 50% to the front when accelerating, and the majority of torque to the outer wheels during a turn to prevent understeer. A 50/50 split just isn't impressive.
The 1986 system on the Audi sends up to 98% to one tire if that tire has the most traction - the fourth generation is that much more refined (60% rear biased under normal driving) - the mid 80s supercar Porsche 959 did the same, as have all 911 carrera 4s and turbos - so, to continue the theme, the Nissan system is entirely copied from the Germans - as is every significent system so far introduced by them (besides self-parking)
You are comparing resale value of a BMW at the end of its (99-05) cycle with a G35 at (05-) beginning of its model cycle. Plus greater volume of 330is were sold compared to G35s (for a reason). I had a 2003 Audi Allroad with MTM upgrades and a manual 6speed (twin turbo) - it smoked every challenger on the street, but was originally going to be called the Pikes Peak before Audi realized most would not understand why. Off-road baddass as well.
lexus is a great brand with great cars, i have a 2005 ES 350
and i've never had any problem with the car since i bought it back then although i beat the crap out of it every now and then.
but to have an american muscle car you sould be committed to the car, and before you get one you should know it's (most muscle cars) not for everyday use and you should take care of it and spend money on it.
there both great yet souldn't be compared to one another.
FYI icemanmxl there's no fiberglass used on any part of any Lexus vehicles. You want fiberglass get a vette. Hey I love vettes too =) so there's nothing wrong with fiberglass and plastic.
iceman, Lexus is one of the most well built automobiles in the world. Your whole American-Made pride ideal is what makes the other half of the world think Americans are stupid. Do yourself a favor and look at statistics.
it's a shame people think these jap imports are fast. any car made out of plastic and fiberglass will have pep. let's see your precious lexus take my R/T Dodge Ram. I'd be laughing my ass off when i cross the finish line knowing your cute lexus got owned by a pick up truck weighing 1000 pounds more. go back to japan.
Lol. You think your Ram is so fast? My Infiniti G35 does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and gets 18 mpg. What does your Ram do? 5.5 seconds? And how many mpg does it get, 10 on a good day?
Infiniti? You mean Nissan. Acura? you mean Honda. Along with Toyota, you guys are paying bigger bucks then you needed - make fun of the guy that bought a Chevy Tahoe with leather and a Cadillac emblem for an extra $20k - where did GM get the idea? You. My stock 13 year old Benz does it 5.8 seconds at 18MPG (E500), 1/4 in 13.8, and would destroy your car in a head-on collision - and I paid $14,500 - what was your nissan, and what will both be worth in 10 more years?
iceman, i hate jap cars too, but Lexuses are built in America. You are thinking of parent company Toyota which uses a lot of power and drive train parts for Lexus. American cars are also the primary use of fiberglass, everything from the Crown Vic to the Vette has fiber glass. and that lexus ( would make your ram look silly in a 1/4 mile. this car has the power of a 06' mustang in this car. 300hp/325ftlbtq
you ignorant backass redneck its not even about the car to you is it? its about where it came from I guess your ancestors are american indian right ? is everything you own made in america ? I didnt think so , just stick with dating your sister dude you prejudice prick
Yeah, these cute Jap cars spend more time on the road than the piece of shit American cars. I'm from America, too. And I'll take a Japanese-built car any day over any American build.

Yeah, these cute Jap cars spend more time on the road than the piece of shit American cars. I'm from America, too. And I'll take a Japanese-built car any day over any American build.
