8 was terrible, annoying characters, shitty draw system, overly complex junctioning, with stupid card sidequests...
9 was alright except for the pussy ass main character. Gameplay was good.

Moved the PS3 & Xbox 360 out of the way yesterday and set up the PS2, slid in a PS1 memory card and started FFVII after God knows how many years of not playing it. Just this second finished Shinra HQ and arrived at World Map and the game just cast 'Nostalgiaga!' on me... The music, the story, the characters, the memories... They really need to remake this Masterpiece. End of story.
I loved alot of the titles. The new ones looked nice... but I had to have end somewhere. The title says it all and I have kept it that way I prefer the memories now let the new generation carry on playing if they must. The series set comfortably in my heart.
It's ironic how Hironobu expected the first FF to be his last game but it has shot him in the foot a bit... I wonder when they will have the 'Final Fantasy' and close that book once and for all.
There are a lot of great world map themes out there, especially from Squaresoft. This one still stands as the best for me because it by far does the best job of evoking the idea that the whole world has been laid out before you. You emerge from the cold, dark city into open fields and it feels like someone's telling you "It's a big world out there and a long journey ahead of us. Let's go exploring!"
Square, do you remember the good ol days? I do. I remember when I was trying to make a living in the slums of Midgar. I remember wielding a gunblade. I remember hanging with a rouge group of thieves, one of which who had a tail. I remember playing Blitzball for the Zanarkand Abes. I remember traveling through time to stop Lavos. I could go on and on and on. I remember the stories you used to tell me, stories that kept me up thinking at night :)
regarding "fan wars" its best to just think of it like each ff game is its own series in a way diffrent characters places music storys just each one has the same or very similar play styles...i hate ff8 and ff10 but i love ff6 ff7 and my fav is ff9 yh you can judge each game and compare them people should have the right to complain and judge were fans after all but just take into consideration that most dime a dozen sequels try to follow on there storys these games dont there each themselves
Can't stand people that are convinced Final Fantasy has "died." Just because one game in the series is your favorite doesn't mean Square Enix has to make new games just like it, and just because a new game isn't exactly what you want doesn't mean Square "sold out" or "killed" the series.
I agree with the fan war thing. I like VII very much, but X is actually my favorite. I'm even in the .001% of Final Fantasy fan's population that likes XII. Saying it's not a true Final Fantasy just because they have different producers or different composers is bull crap. It's not the producers or composers that make a Final Fantasy game, it's the magic that they cast on the player. VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, AND XII all had that magic.

Things have to change. Even Mario has changed through time in terms of gameplay. Zelda has too.Even Castlevania has. It's akward but you HAVE to get used to it.

@ps3fanforever I must disagree. The newer titles have no serious subject matter. J-pop has ruined the final fantasy series; along with voiceovers. Text box rpgs are true rpgs because they allow the player to truly get into the game "AKA roleplay" to imagine what the characters sound like, to name your character, to name the other characters. Im sure for new age kids they're cool or w/e; however, I never will. Unpleasable? no. Make a semi serious plot with text and its gravy.

If they do a remake... PLEASE let it be a turn-base rpg. That always has and always will be the best. No running about with enemies cluttering up the scenery. The only real change that I would welcome would be to re-script the dialogue exchange. The original character dialogue was a bit childish.
ive come to realize that there are really only 2 elements in an rpg. music and story. only a select few rpgs actually have some good original ideas to actually slightly improve its quality. but its still outshined by music and story. nobuo uematsu is what makes final fantasy for me tbh.
1-Midgar=New York, 2-Rocket Town=probably around Bulgaria(Their villages are surrounded by forest, 3-Kalm=England, 4-Sleeping Forest and Bone Village=Kashmir Region, 5-Temple of the Ancients=Syria(Modern Mesopotamia), 6-The Gold Saucer= Las Vegas, 7-Corel=San Quentin, 8=Old Man's Cave=Around Afghanistan or Pakistan(Where the oldest living person existed)

This game is not over-rated at all! This game made my childhood and i could play it again and again and never get bored. I will never ever forget this game no game so far has even come close to how good this game is. Its name will live on forever and f you go on to ebay or any other seconhand internet shops you will see how expensive this game is now when bought for about £5 when it came out! That just tells you all something dont it.

Everyone always shows so much love for One Winged Angel. I even went to Video Game Live and they played that. I always thought this would be a much more enjoyable and beautiful song to be heard at such an event. This is one of my favorite video game tracks of all time. I'm talking like top 5.

@OmnomTheDevourer XIII's soundtrack had very nice tunes and also the characters were very nice and very well developed. Yes the game is very linear, but isn't X linear too? Pretty much everybody loves X.

If they do a remake... PLEASE let it be a turn-base rpg. That always has and always will be the best. No running about with enemies cluttering up the scenery. I dont care for online play either, It totally kills the feeling of immersion in the story. Summary... No changes. Just bumped up graphics, music, visuals and character designs with original gameplay
The only real change that I would welcome would be to re-script the dialogue exchange. The original character dialogue was a bit childish.

ive come to realize that there are really only 2 elements in an rpg. music and story. only a select few rpgs actually have some good original ideas to actually slightly improve its quality. but its still outshined by music and story. nobuo uematsu is what makes final fantasy for me tbh.

This game is not over-rated at all! This game made my childhood and i could play it again and again and never get bored. I will never ever forget this game no game so far has even come close to how good this game is. Its name will live on forever and f you go on to ebay or any other seconhand internet shops you will see how expensive this game is now when bought for about £5 when it came out!
