Looking thru this thread of the last 2+ years, still one of the most respectful conversations about issues that have divided peoples for centuries. And wouldn't Yusuf (Cat) be happy to read this. This is what it's all about. Peace to all! Here's to living the dream!!
"Yusuf had been a part of Cat before Cat became Yusuf: a paradox that the Sufi tradition has long taught us. It was necessary for Cat to set out in search of Yusuf for Yusuf to discover and understand Cat’s secrets. Now at last the quest and the path converge: artist and believer now sing with the same voice."
He is Yusuf Islam now and forever, no longer Cat Steven. As a great singer, let him back to sing all his beautifil-peace songs he ever had.....Sure, he is still devout moslem. sallam from Indonesia
What an absolute brilliant song! I treated myself to bying this album recently and i am in love with EVERY song on the entire album! This great Man has yet again created another beautiful work of art. These songs are straight from the heart and soul, about personal experiences...but everyone can also relate to these wonderful songs. They are moving, but at the same time the whole album experience is really, really cool... he must be one of the coolest Dad's on the planet!!! Thanks Yusuf. Gav x
Dear sir, Hinduism and Buddism do preach peace and love like Islam, but a person born by Hindu parents can only be a Hindu, there is no conversion system like Islam and Christianity, as far as Buddhism is concern, it is not a religion but a philosophy since it has no concept of hereafter like Islam and Christianity, when a person has achieved all the success , he may either go to help the other to get success or else escape that success circle like Budha did.thank you!
I do not nor ever will follow the teachings of islam, but i understand why he took this path. He found his fame early in life and made a decision to leave it probably due to drugs and alcohol which was so rampant back then (soon followed by crass commercialism). Islam seemed at the time a logical choice. But his music is a part of him. He is coming full circle.
Islam has given yusuf the dos and donts for a successful life in this world and the next.Islam is a complete way of life -these areGod's words to us.Hearts, intentions, charity, prideetc are discussed in depth.Islam has given yusuf the necessary tools for success in any area of life including music.
I believe this man who left us years ago for a different path has begun to feel mortality. He does what we all do; return to our roots.
Is he still content with the direction he followed? I believe he has great turmoil within, simply because he feels a necessity to return to "Cat Stevens".
At the end of the day a gentle pacifist spirit does not find pure enlightenment from any religion.
If his journey in this direction gives him peace within his soul, he is moving in the right direction
That comment about religion is a bit judgmental isn't it?
I think that certainly gentle people eventually lose their sense of having chosen the "right" religion, but I believe that there are a lot of people who see truths in all religions but still stick with one in particular because they have a connection with it.
I doubt Yusuf's new path will lead him away from his religion. It may just change the way he practices it.
I'm pretty sure he's fully content with his religion and doesn't seem to find it hard to be a pacifist and a Muslim. I think by saying he's going back to his roots, he's been referring to his musical style. He has always been a pacifist and as far as I've heard is still a devout Muslim.
For those who feel a need to comment on my comment....
What I wrote was a statement on aging. If one is content as they look back over their past years, there is no void one feels obliged to fill.
I have no doubt he will continue with Mohammedianism, as to leave it would would create a greater turmoil, and what trama does any man wish to endure unnecessarily?
I say much with few words... Youtube obliges one to do so.
yusuf is actually bridge-ing the east and west.there are certain political policies that keep people divided-and those policies are deliberate.yusuf holds the unique position of being from both areas like Obama US president.
thanks cat for coming back to us lifelong fans!
