I loved this! was Nellie born blind? Her other senses are way more sensitive you know. And Jazz was lying on her back sleeping, just like our second Dachshund Pepper laid. Our Dachshund Lucky, can't lie on his back long or he starts sneezing. Lucky is a Black & Tan smooth and Pepper was a Silver Dapple smooth, we also had a female Black & Tan smooth, her name was Lady. Pepper passed away in 2003 and Lady passed away way back in 1979.

As the vet said, it was more traumatizing to me than to him. He does great, even playing with other dogs at the dog park. He sticks very close to me, and the younger one, Redgie, who is more timid by nature, is very protective of Oscar at the dog park. Have fun with your 2!
So sorry to hear about your puppy. I'm sure she was so scared. I can't imagine one of mine going through that. I hope all goes well for her and she gets better very soon. @copperbeagle1 You'll be happy to know our little dachshund is fully recovered from her coyote attack! She really is a miracle dog... has been through so much in her 13 years! They had to shave her back to treat her wounds, but, the fur is growing in nicely. She'll be just like new in a few more weeks. :) Thanks for your kind words.

I don't know HOW she got away from the coyote, but, we found her about 100 yards from the house. She is blind and going deaf, so, you can imagine how traumatized she was. She has several puncture wounds and is recuperating in the emergency vet clinic now. We will transfer her to her own vet clinic on Monday.
@MsTessG I hope she is healing up well. They are too hard to lose. Unortunatly not much you can do about the Yote. Is she still in good spirits? Takes a lot to get one of them down. You are right about them going blind they learn to deal with it just fine. We have had problems with a couple of ours going down in he backs. But give them time and some TLC and they can get back to walking again. Though it is a rather odd looking walk.

I love this! My parents breed dachshunds, and I'm supposed to get the current oldest male breeder and his "niece". It may be a while before I can though because my husband is military, so I may have to miss my Einstein and Cherokee for a long time. But watching your video helped a lot. Our dogs are now 9 and 11! The red one, Nellie, is blind, has a bad back, but remains one of the most lively 'adult" dog you will ever see! Nothing slows her down! If your dogs ever go blind, don't think it's the end of the world... they get along FINE as long as they have their NOSES!
The black one, Jazz, is 9 now and fit as a fiddle. They are the loves of our lives & I only wish all animals could be as loved as these 2 are. Thanks to everyone for your comments and for viewing the video!
@crankychick my dachshund went blind at 11 years, but he always stayed a happy dog... he slowed down running and everything but he still hunted birds and lizards. He was perfect companny, he would come and open the door to my bedroom, made a racket and say hi while I studied or early in the morning and wake me up... hated baths, loved food and ice cream... Dachshunds are the best dogs in the world. I have had them all my life and now have 8 but watching this video made me think of my Leibchen the little girl I had when I was a kid. Dachshunds are my favorite! I have seven of them at this time. Three are adults, and four are puppies. One of the puppies is only three weeks old. When I was a little girl I had a dog named Fonzie too. Anyway out of all my dachshunds I have three chocolate/tans, One black/tan, One red dilute, One red, And one red/sable. All of the reds are long hair. Their names are Botet, Latte, Phoenix, Farah, Kindle, Vannah, and Raisin. Six girls and One boy. The same as my kids are.Lol!

i know long hair are supposed to be very laid back, wires are the comedians very funny personalities. and the smooths are supposedly more hyper. i have a soft wire (half long hair half wire) and he's very easy going but can be quite the clown.

if u let them get fat they will happy to get fat but they dont if u treat them correctly very good dogs! they are always hyper like that if u feed them right

theyre even cuter when theyre fat, theyre have the best personalities. i wouldnt recommend letting it get fat though, their backs don't like it.

I'm thinking about getting a miniature. Does anybody know if they are prone to medical problems? I heard that they sometimes are.

All dachshunds' backs need to be maintained. The dachshund should eat healthy and avoid jumping, so as not to hurt their delicate backs. Obesity can also worsen the back of a dachshund.

they are you just need to have them avoid stairs and jumping. However, if u get a doxie mix like me, they are easy to find, just as cute, funny, and have slightly longer legs so aren't prone to back issues.

i know long hair are supposed to be very laid back, wires are the comedians very funny personalities. and the smooths are supposedly more hyper. i have a soft wire (half long hair half wire) and he's very easy going but can be quite the clown.

Well...dachshunds in general love people, like all dogs. However, smooth-haired dachshunds usually bond closely with one person. Being rather busy with college, it might feel a little bit neglected being away from you at times.

The bleach colored dachshund reminds me of one I met at a pet store. I fell in love with him and he really helped my fear of dogs:D

Our Doxies are named Oscar and Mya (weiners). Sister and brother - Mya is the BOSS of Oscar. They are so together. Sometimes too much, if you know what I mean. She says "Whuuf!" He says, "Gosh Mom I can't stop."

thanks for posting this video! it seems that doxies are the one dog breed that takes over the house 100%! our house hast totally changed ever since we got Angus and Rex mini-mini doxies. Doggie says jump, family says how high...thank God for those rascals!

I have a mini dachshund. Her dad was a long haired and her mom was a short. she has long hair on her ears and tail but the rest is short. Her name is Molly and she is an evil little puppy. :-) in a cute way! Molly was in some dog races and got to the last round and got disqualified.
