I think it must be translated wrong. Polygamy isn't allowed in most interpretations of the Quran. Some interpretations allow a limited form of polygny, only.
فانكحوا ما طاب لكم من النساء مثنى وثلاث ورباع "So marry as you please for women, 2, 3 or 4."
Then Allah says: فإن خفتم ألا تعدلوا, فواحدة "But if you fear that you will not be able to be FAIR AND JUST (and give her all of her rights) - then it is obligatory for you to marry (only) 1."
It does not say you are limited to these numbers of wives. I read it only as a suggestion that you may have more than one, and that is the archaic way to say "many", isn't it?
BUT: Doesn't the Qu'ran also state that you simply cannot be completely fair and just to your wives, thus taking back that privilege?

It does not say you are limited to these numbers of wives. I read it only as a suggestion that you may have more than one, and that is the archaic way to say "many", isn't it?
BUT: Doesn't the Qu'ran also state that you simply cannot be completely fair and just to your wives, thus taking back that privilege?

I have heard of a person who wanted to marry his three other partners legally in australia! As a muslim myself, it was simply embarrassing to hear him defend his decision with the quran.
In the time of the prophet widows were treated terribly and so it was in their best interests to remarry. Polygamy was needed because so many men would die in battles.

I think polygamy is a good idea because a woman shouldn't have to put up with a man every day. If the man has other wives, each wife only has to tolerate him one or two days a week. Also, men are too lazy to do their own laundry and housework. Men would be too stinky and disgusting if they didn't have wives to make them presentable. The bottom line is polygyny is a better alternative to being unfaithful to your partner, having children out of wedlock, single mothers struggling to bring up children alone and rape! I suggest you read a bit on human psychology, especially concerning sexual aspects - then you'd realise theres a huge difference between men and women. Theres a reason why most normal women are picky when it comes to sex and most men will jump on the first inviting woman.
You seem to have no grasp of human nature so i doubt you'd have any idea how to research properly, but good luck anyway.
