  • The reason a common Briggs and Stratton can not run so slow is the magneto ignition, clearly replaced in this case.

But, yes, large flywheels and an electric ignition and it can be run very slowly, without a load.

Although the lubrication system is of the splash type, so one will want to add extra oil.

This might be a useful design for a standby generator, in place of start and stop, run One or both of the flywheels could be magnetized to produce a limited amount of power at idle.

  • Did you use your existing carb

  • so what fuel are you running it on?

  • @josephdupont ... standard oil-gas mix.

  • whats powering coil, is it 6v or 12 v coil, powered off primary winding of OEM magneto or wind your own on magcore, ?? can't recall ever seeing B&S with points

  • @uber2ber Briggs had points into the 80s.

  • Good God That is just bliss. Do you sell these in a generator type kit?

  • Putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, - nice :-))

  • thats awesome

  • @sewallm60 : This man owns about 40 flywheel engines. Some so big that it took tractor trailers to haul them in. He makes use of the starting fluid on some of those.

  • @wvsky nothing serious more of a dig then anything his shop is so clean i wouldn't expect anything to be weaned on fluid he had. do you have any of his others posted never mind i see'em good job

  • whats with the starting fluid in the background ?

  • What do you operate with this engine? It looks like it would make for a good trolling motor or generator engine.

  • hope its not slinger lubed... if it is then DX (slinger lubed ones need enough sped to splash oil all around)

  • @minibikerider1

-The engine on the video is a throttle governed engine, it has no such a mechanism like a "hit and miss" engine has.

  • @robinhooodvsyou thats is more or less a hit and miss mech by the way you said it but have it your way

  • @minibikerider1

-It is not a hit and miss engine.

-And try to write a little better.

  • @robinhooodvsyou um its close now did i not say have it your way thats the end of it i am not gonna argue on a computer

  • That's a beefy coil! don't melt the spark plug lol

  • i took a tecumseh engine and put a 35 LB olympic weight on as a flywheel, and then made a hit-and-miss mechanism for it. i gotta get it going again and make a vid

  • @rroberts383 hahaha that sounds like it would look funny. id love to see it tho

  • @0812201 the battery wire is going to the cover behind the flywheel, and using the factory points to break the spark.

  • nice build. horsepower? rpm's?

  • i meant this guy he was selling it and was really grumpy to talk to me cus i was 16

  • this thing is pretty cool, but it can't go as slow as a real fly wheeler. those suckers can run with like one pop per 4 seconds

  • please explain the

'plug wire to spark plug arrangement

  • @0812201

    Me to !!!

  • Yes Sir,

    very well made

  • old briggs motors idle way lower... like 300+- rpm lol, sure is a beauty tho.....

  • Have you thought about the risk of blowing up the flywheels from overspeeding? Depending on what they are made of, you definitely are at risk by a flywheel rim surface speed of 12,000 ft/min or even lower. That's probably no higher than about 3000 rpm.

  • A 12" wheel at 3000 RPM has a surface velocity of 107.1 mph, or 9,424 ft/min.

I wouldn't rev that thing too high. :)

  • I'm glad. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the risk.

  • @zhmapper Wow nice math! (no sarcasm intended)

  • flywheels need balencing

  • @jayguy173 Looks pretty balanced to me

  • @flash178 Agreed. The lateral runout isn't appealing to the eye. But for one that isn't clamped down, that's a sweet runner.

  • my dads old briggs will idle lower than that and they are stock.

  • Great! I read about this engine in '04... it inspired me to build my own in '05

  • lol i like that little "ploip ploip ploip" she does.

    very nice!

  • where did you get the flywheels from ???????????

  • wow thats slow i guess it could have been in gasmanns comp for low idle

  • here's a really slow idle engine watch?v=hc3dGHXHiZA

  • Now that looks like FUN. I love the sound of it Thanks

  • this is cool!
