  • Seriously - people think that the song is bluesier. Music should be colorblind people. So they slowed down the groove a bit, added a touch of harmonica, a tiny bit of slide and what? Now it´s the epitomy of blues?

Assuming that no one is a musicologist or has a degree in music harmony, by changing the lyrics the tune is MUCH less bluesy. In Johnny´s version he DID kill the guy so no parole and then judgement day. That´s the blues. There is no dif between Blues and Country.

  • @dgb111 However, it makes it an even sadder song if the singer didn't actually kill the guy. Imagine being on death row for something you didn't do.

  • Huuuuu! I love that part!

  • >>>>>alan freeds nephew,,,,,,,,he lived for blues

  • one of the best versions I've heard

  • This is why I love the blues. Superb!!!....One for my faves...Peace...Jake

  • this is the very best version of this song I've ever heard, sorry Johny Cash fans, but this is the best.

  • @thebluesrockers im a big cash fan but i like this alot

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

    PURE BLUES.

    THANK YOU MY FRIEND!!!

  • Nice!! very good.

  • i love keb mo, but i prefer the cash version of this

  • is it just me or is this in a different key than the original! cuz i'd love to learn folsom in a different key!

  • Keb really puts the blues in this song..

  • Keb did this on the Cash tribute CD, "Kindereed Spirits."

  • read my adde info on this tune

  • written 2 years before in 1954 folsom prison blues was written in 1956..i believe

  • huge respect for Johnny Cash, but this version rocks :)

  • Great cover, but i didn't like the lyrics changes. I mean, Cash wrote the song like he was a criminal, can't see a reason to change the lyrics 'n stuff.

  • well if you think that way he was a dumb criminal see reno is not california so you woundnt do time at folsom???

  • errr what exactly did he change?

  • @Ironmendel probably for a different mood.

  • ça c'est du blues!!!!!

  • Epiphany of blues integration

  • I'll be the first to admit I under-appreciated Johny Cash in white suberbia in the 60's and 70's,but I love Keb Mo's versio. But you gotta hand it to Johny,he wrote the friggin' song (and a lot of other great ones too).

  • Than you don't know what Johnny Cash has done for people through his own music, and what I mean by that is his singing and band playing. I'm autistic and when I was 6 months old I had headphones placed on my head with his music playing through them, and basically it was the only thing that would soothe me. Also if it weren't for Johnny Cash through music therapy, I would have been slower in learning how to read and talk. So you see, Johnny Cash will always be number 1 to me.

  • better than original.

  • good but not better than the original. This man is a wonderful artist but he has a long way to go to outdo Johnny Cash

  • well it's your opinion. from my point of view this version is better than original. Johnny Cash was a great artist, i'm not going argue about that, but i like Keb Mo version more.

  • i agree completely, i love country in the johnny cash era; but cash was one of my least favorites, ulike my favorites consisting of merle, hank jr., waylon, kristofferson, and paycheck... but mo is waaaaaaay better than cash... no disrespect

  • Hey Dummy...He's not TRYING to OUTDO Johnny Cash. If anything it's a tribute to Cash.

  • thank you for your comment....i realize that this was not a blues ...song but. it is being played that way in this version...long tradition in blues to change lyrics..have you seen shawshank redemption...i think keb mo is kind of playing on that...in that movie one of the major things was ....dont you know everyone in here is innocent...im really sure mr cash would approve...PEACE MY BROTHER..

  • Excellent take on the song. But he CHANGES THE WORDS ("They say I shot a man in Reno, that was just a lie"). This is an iconic song by the great Johnny Cash and Mr. Mo is just a blues singer. Just because he's playing a fancy guitar doesn't give him the right.

  • Blues has a long history of taking a song and making it their own. Cash being influenced by the blues, would know and appropriate this.

  • thanks for your comments i try to put awsome things on my videos..ive spent the last few days tracing country..music back to its roots...maybe i have a new project..blues..PEACE MY FRIENDS......

  • Johnny Cash take a number! Love this.

    Thank you.

    francesca
