I just love how it's so bittersweet... how much you love your town no matter how much you seem to hate it. I'm a native Winnipegger, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. :)
Winnipeg is the coldest city in Canada in winter; it's infested with blackflies and mosquitoes in summer, and is the arson capital of Canada, crime-ridden with all the native gangs.
And yet, they've given us not only the Weakerthans and the Guess Who, but BTO, Randy Bachman, Neil Young, the Cowboy Junkies, the Watchmen, Chantal Kreviazuk, the D-Rangers, the Duhks, and more; and filmmaker Guy Maddin, and others.
This song gets it completely right. There's something about Winnipeg that makes us blame all our frustrations on it. There's nothing worth celebrating about it, anyway.
I love Winnipeg. I love being a Winnipegger, and I love the city. This song made me burst out laughing though, lol. xDD
