The policies of his administration and the congress helped to keep the economy growing in spite of it. He did many things wrong, but mainly the war was responsible for the dems gaining control in 2004 which is when things started spinning downwards. Bush was no help, however.

It's amusing to read all the Democrat vs Republican comments. At this point it doesn't matter who's in office, we're screwed. The parties put a spin on everything they do, keeping the citizens confused and fighting against each other, all the while, lining their own pockets. We had a chance to make a real change with Ron Paul, but we blew it. Unfortunately, the two parties of clowns would have made it extremely difficult for Paul to get the job done.
