Ever since my D&D days Ranger type classes have been the ones I’ve chosen without a second thought, well unless they are a race exclusive like the Dwarves in Forsaken World & the only Dwarf I like is Honeydew. I love their typical personally archetype also, a dark humoured loner who’s most likely a tad misanthropic but will do the right thing when need be. It’s nice to see pets actually being part of the character’s strategy other than a damage output rating buff.

Can anyone provide information for me? Will the ranger really have to be reliant on the pet in order to be a powerful character?

Also, does the ranger have any abilities with awesome effects? Something that makes the screen shake, or something that explodes (just a few examples)? Because I really like effects that makes me feel powerful.

@WhatNameShouldITake well i dont know about the powerful thing... cause i havent played the demo :D but the ranger pet system is like "w.e" kind... the pets are just there, they only inflict more dmg and have no "debuffs"

Ranger is going to be my main class with the Asura race, just because i want to see what pet's you can get with the Asura's cause their technological not "ONE WITH NATURE" so I hope instead of birds and beasts they will have machines and mechanical units, I also think that it would be awesome seeing a tiny ass Asura holding a massive ass bow and trying to shoot it :P + it would be easier to evade being seen by the enemy I think :D

@digitalVipar Actually rangers not being able to use rifles is the best decision. It goes against their very obviously nature orientation. They're all about the natural world, and there is nothing natural about blowing things up with a rifle.

@digitalVipar So are cities, and yet there is nothing naturey about them. Rangers (seem to be) about preserving nature, and rifles dont flow with that. They're not hunters, but they are defenders, and using a rifle turns them into hunters, which they are not.

@digitalVipar Yes actually, who else would you call as an ally except for beings of nature, be they spirits or animals? Hunters brainwash animals to follow them and to kill other animals, rangers simply convince animals that they are on their side and the animals follow to aid the ranger in defending nature. Makes sense, doesnt it?

@GanjaMunchman Your pet isn't just some little side kick that auto-attacks (well there isn't autoattacking in GW2) It acts as its own unit which you can call over to help you back up when you go into the "downed" state.

I am very thrilled to try out this game. There is one major but. My current PC is unable to play new gen games (Stuff like Star Wars the Old Republic, Skyrim) and I'm worried that I will be throwing myself in a pit of low FPS with this game.

@Palidor yea...but who knows how will it work as a whole.If the pet can't stun , has low def , can't dmg properly , has low movement , and bad AI ....then it would will be useless.Unless the pet can REALLY help into a fight ....i will go warrior.

Yes, I do realise the warrior has a counter on the mace too, but maces are like terrible flails. Not to mention the ranger's spear has counter, while the warrior's does not.

@1Ronaldinho10 Yep, it's exactly the same as any other profession. Pets can be switched at any time too, but suffer the same cooldown issues of attunements IIRC.

Pretty much the selling point for me.

I played a hunter for years and a class that's supposed to sneak around in the woods hunting animals wearing chain mail with gigantic shoulder pieces never made since to me.

I'm glad now I'll have more of an outdoorsman look apposed to looking like some cybernetic assassin from the year 2175

Maybe it's too timeconsuming for you since you had a few more days to edit the warrior vid so you could display the weapons at the same as you spoke about them but that was a really nice feature :D
