  • and then we're on a date and all i can say is "how are you" and "i'm fine" hahaha :D

  • i asked her answer was 2 eggs and one hotdog??? :S

  • Rak !!! how can i do this... T_T how to shake my tongue??

  • @ChenJianrui nothing to worry, really. some Thai people are also lazy to shake their tongue when they pronoun R word in Thai so they just using L sound in stead, Rak - Lak.

But I suggest that if you're really want to learn Thai you should learn how to shake your tongue to keep it officially and tradition.(it's not that hard though)

  • @topmcs thank you, i will try to do so, although it is still hard for me..self learning without a native Thai teacher lol

  • I have a friend who is Thai, and am nuts about her for last 4 years, but she is traditional Thai but I love her character and her culture in the USA, and want to learn Thai to be closer to her and win her over, but the dating process in thai is long, and am willing to wait for her if she will have me. Any advice? I liked your videos..

  • Thank you, I will practice. I got to China and Thailand quite a lot... I can speak some Mandarin, but seem to have trouble with the Thai language.

  • Another great video from Mod. THANKS FROM THE USA !!!

  • cant you replace pom/chan rak kun to pom /chan rak tur? which is more natural?

and my friends teld me men can also use chan but when theres a certain time when men use pom.

  • @9kiko90

    Sawatdee ka,

There are actually many "YOU" in Thai language. "Kun" is formal, "Ter" is less formal, but actually in real situation no man calls his girl "ter". Teenagers use the word "dtua-eeng" or call their loved ones by 'nick name'.

    As for "I" ; chan is commonly used by women, some men use "chan" in the following situations;

    [1] They are not straight

[2] They are straight, and use "chan" with VERY VERY close female friends or relative.

  • @LearnThaiwithMod oh ok. i was working at this Thai restaurant and my friend would use chan sometimes with the waitress (Ning). And he said sometimes it can be used by males. I dont know if he told me about the 2 rules you told me.

And i thought it was regular because of this video. i thinkn it was chan rak ter. put it after the "/" on the youtube address:

    watch?v=nL7mZt8Qgh4

  • @9kiko90 I have been speaking Thai for 7 years now but the only time I say chan is when speaking to very small children. Native male speakers often use chan with people they have been friends with since childhood. If I want something warmer than pom I use pee, which is kinda like calling myself older brother.

  • @billk61 I use my own name (Sam) instead of Pom, like " Sam mai ruu". Dont know why thou but many of my Thai friends aged 20 - 30 also do this, or simply leave out the Pom/Chan/Pee, like "Mai ruu" which means "I dont know"

  • @jonnyglades Yeah, for sure. That also sounds good for giving a warmer kind of feel to the conversation.

  • nice lesson, I've heard รัก pronounce "lak" as well, is this another way to pronounce it?

  • @BETO1BETO2

Thai people often drop "ร" (r) and use "ล" (l). You will hear in almost every word that has ร.

  • @MyLifeIsInHime

Yes, we do:) Couples do exchange gifts, give roses or go out and dine in a romantic restaurant.

  • I love it -- ~ gan mai. Very useful bit of Thai. Thanks!

  • bai len tennit gan mai na krup ?

  • @Chipinjack

Thank you for your invitation:) but unfortunately I don't know how to "len tennit " ka.

    Many thanks,

    Mod

  • @LearnThaiwithMod ...na song san krup.. :-(

  • @Chipinjack

Kop Kun Ka Chipinjack. But we don't use "na song-san" (pitiful) in this situation na ka.

In Thai language, someone is 'na song san' when he/she is miserable.

I just can't play tennis, I am not that miserable so I am not 'na song san' ka:)

You could say 'na sia-daai' which means that's too bad.

  • @LearnThaiwithMod ..oh..kao chai kao chai...kup kun mak kup. kun ben konkrew dee mak

  • @Chipinjack

    Mai bpen rai ka:)
