The sad thing for this routine is that judges are now judging her against everything they have seen that day...she is now on UB which all the big contenders where already on besides Khorkina. The score is reflective of that.
this exercise meant her gold, but the judges didn't give her the 9.9 she deserved so an American gimnast could be gold. However, she is a legend and nobody out of the US remembers the gold medal winner
@egoadefonso What are you babbling about? This was the AA competition--which a Ukrainian gymnast won. She was amazing and deserved it. Or are you babbling about the UB EF? The winner for that would be a Russian gymnast--Svetlan Khorkina. Also amazing--also deserved.
Really, really getting sick of the reflexive nation-bashing. Just because the Americans--or the Russians or whomever--won, doesn't mean they didn't deserve it. Nobody was "overscored."
@NYCBlonde sorry, I thought this was her last exercise in the 1996 Olympics (Atlanta). Just watch that competition and when you listen to the reaction of the crowd when she was given her 9.916, you'll understand my words. And yes, there are athletes, gymnasts, etc... who are overscored, mainly in the Olympic games... just have a look at the scores in the last Olympics games (China).
wow. that's almost as good as her UB routine at the 1996 europeans and she got a 9.675?! Maybe the Tkatchev was a little close to the bars but her form was perfect through out and that's the straightest double layout ever - and stuck!
@peeweefied she was extremely underscored in this olympics, though some of the american's scores were inflated. i think dominique moceanu got something like 9.812 for a routine that wasn't that perfect. her legs were always a little skewed on the full in piked.
@peepers2221 yes, considering she didn't have a second release(and no difficult transitions, I wouldn't think it would be out of a full 10.Probably the 9.9 because she connected two full turns and a tkachev.thanks :)
@afgymnast96 On paper she should've had a 10.0, I believe, but if the judges felt that her Giant Swing Fulls were finished too far from handstand, then they could've been knocked down to 'C's, which may have not given her enough Connection Value for a 10.0 SV.
What was the value of a Giant Swing 1/2 Turn? A Giant Blind Change was a 'C', but was a plain 1/2 turn just a 'B'?
Great routine. I was so made when she was underscored on her first event floor at this competition. I think she really had a chance at the bronze or silver.

@afgymnast96 ya but she had much more difficulty then bogi, and her dismount wasn't a full in pike it was a full twisting double layout.
peepers2221 1 year ago
@peepers2221 sorry,i meant full twisting double layout. Did Svetlana have a 10.0 start value, too?
afgymnast96 1 year ago
@afgymnast96 I'm not sure, I don't think so because of the one release move so maybe she had a 9.9 start value or a 9.85? I'm not sure (:

@CoCoNuTsiopatHic thanks!Sorry, I'm not sure of the code at the time, as I only started following gymnastics in 2006

@afgymnast96 No problem! We all had to start somewhere! :)

I will never understand how she threw that dismount... and kept a hollow position throughout! She's magic.
