jaja i remember when i start using linux with ubuntu hardy and i dont have any idea that beryl at that time doesnt exist any more and i broke my head searching how to install beryl and the terminal only says 404 not found and then in the forum i found that beryl is compiz fusion and i was like fuck!
I just found out how the version numbers work lol! 10.04 Lucid Lynx, 10 as in 2010, 04 as in April, clever :P
Anyway, this OS is amazing! When I had Windows on this computer, it was being a bitch and very slow, I tried Ubuntu on a Live disc, and I loved it! I soon wiped out my HDD and installed Ubuntu into the entire HDD, after 3 years, I've had NO problems! Before, my PC wouldn't last a month with Windows!
I started using Ubuntu at Jaunty Jackalope. Jaunty was just awful, 9.10 was a small improvement, 10.04 looks pretty good, who knows... I may consider installing it over my AWESOME Windows.
linux is great if you have a pc and not a mac. putting linux on a mac is kinda stupid cause os x is more stable and works flawless with everything. but for pc, its worth it over windows cause lets face it, windows sucks and linux is awesome.
It's good to see that they got rid of the crap brown in Lucid! Hardy was fugly.
@redspade04 If Mac is so much more stable then why do the overwhelming majority of supercomputers and servers use it? Linux is far more stable, but Mac is much more user friendly. Linux assumes you know what you're doing.
@THESUPERUBERMIKE actually youre part right. yes some super computers run that but some also run bsd and windows. in college our science lab ran os x (10.5) and our computer lab ran fadora. reason for this was its cheaper to do linux for a lot of computers but where it counts we used mac pros. now, the us government has used windows forever now but just last year they realized it was actually cheaper to use os x servers cause they could run 60 cameras instead of 50.
@THESUPERUBERMIKE but as for super computers, yes they do use linux. but the reason isnt what you think it is, its not that its stable and what not. the reason is is windows uses ms dos and ubuntu uses ext4. why is this important?, well ext4 can in theory have an unlimited sized file while ms dos can only have (i think) 40gb (might be a little off). so, if these supper computers used windows, it would need to pack and unpack files on top of its normal job. make sense?
@redspade04 Putting a GNU/Linux operating system on a Mac computer is indeed stupid - because you could have purchased a non-Mac computer with equivalent hardware for one-third to one-half the price.
If you really want stability and great performance, get Debian Linux - far more reliable than any Mac or "PC" on the market.

@PuffTheMagicAtheist This is redspade04... New username. But I've never used debian but I have used ububtu, xubuntu, kubuntu, and my now favorite, mint. I do disagree though, I run Linux on my Dell and I haft to see that compared to windows 7, I have more apps crash. But, win 7 is a good version of windows. When I had Linux on it, I had to keep a force close task in my task bar cause I'd have them crash so often. On my Mac, I'll have some crash too, I like all oses
@randrewm97 I respect your OS (or OSes) of choice. However, I do find it funny that you mentioned the instability Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Mint: They are all Ubuntu-based, which in turn is a derivative of an unstable branch of Debian.
@PuffTheMagicAtheist well, one is gnome and kde and idk what xubuntu is... but they arent the same is what i was meaning. ive used fedora when i was in college and it wasnt to bad... kind of a flash basic linux in my opinion. i was going to try open suse before i installed windows 7 on my dell but decided not to. i think ill stick with windows and osx for now. i would like to have the next ubuntu on my dell though cause its suppose to be a desktop version of jolicloud

it's free now and then when they become mainstream they will start chargin you money for updates or software or just to use it or make a premium version...nothing is ever free. nada!

My first version was Karmic Koala. Currently using Lucid Lynx, and I will probably get a new computer before I upgrade to Natty.

It's called Open Source. Read about it. Also, read the companies mission statement and info about Ubuntu on their website.
