  • Thankyou for this it seems to work the same in elements 10

  • Thank you so much für showing me how easy Premiere Elements can handle green screens. Straight forward tutorial - excellent!

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • is the green screen feature availiable on elements 3.0?

  • @OBINGOBLIN I think this is on most versions of Elements, but I don't know for sure about 3.0.

  • Very helpful, many thanks :)

  • @fiesta999xxx Of course, you are welcome. :-)

  • my room is green that would be cool

  • thanks a lot. this is really cool

  • Thanks so much for this! :) Really helped me!

  • thank you this was very good

  • Thx for the help

  • Thank you for the demonstration, I'm just getting into PE9 and although after a bit of trial and error most of it is self-evident but your no nonsense tutorial is a real help. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post it.

    Kind Regards ... Andy

  • @RetardedGuitarGuy Bummer. I wonder what went wrong?

  • I'm in the thought process of taking Adobe Premiere Elements 9 back. There is no green screen KEY in it, plus to do any kind of effects you have to buy their more expensive software in that of After Effects. I'm having so many problems with it, damn I should stick with iMovie, at least it's easy to understand and you can add video in your background for green screen effects, haven't seen that you can with Adobe. Should have went with Final Cut :(

  • @timeknowsfilms. You are right that the Mac version does not have the Green Screen effect. The Mac version is very new and more limited than the Win version, which does have the green screen effect. However, you might get the same results with the Videomerge effect on your Mac, which works kind of like the green screen filter. That said, I don't work for Adobe and my opinion is that people should choose what works best for them. If another software works better for you switch to it. Good luck.

  • @timeknowsfilms There are Green Screen, Blue Screen and Croma Key settings on APE9. You need to look again in Effects. Did you load it all up using only Disk 1? The effects are on the second disk.

  • Thank you, been trying to find how i could do videos such as yours.

    Thanks

  • Thank you! You made the process so simple and easy. Great teacher!

  • Well done.

  • Hello,

Can you add a picture in Picture effect on top of the green screen effect?

  • @HerringTree Of course. There are some good PIP effects in APE9. Note that I am working on Windows and Mac is more limited.

  • Thank you very much! Have I waited for this or what?! Youre the best computer tutorial girl I have ever heard and seen of!

  • You are my HERO. I thouht this was hard, now my videos won't suck. THANK-YOU!

  • thank you so so much :DDDDDDD

  • Thank you very much for keeping the how to do green screen video simple and easy. I look forward to watching your other videos on YouTube.

  • Dr. Snelson you're a rock star; been looking for an easy to the point of how to complete a green screen. SWEET NICE JOB!!!

  • thank you so much you really helped me with my green sceen i was so stumped i had no idea how to use it untel i watched you

  • THANK! YOU! ARE! AWESOMNESS! SUBSCRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIBED!!!!

  • what if i don't have a green screen ?

  • @WillyDano Create one from anything lime green. :-)

  • @WillyDano get some butcher paper from school, make sure it's big, fold it half (cause its' sort of see through), then tape it to your wall, and use it! :)

  • Thanks for making this easy:)

  • Hi - does any shade of green work with this effect? I want to use this effect on a mirror and only have light green towels which will be big enough to cover it.

PS - thanks heaps for speaking so clearly and highlighting which options you select - many people doing demos for Premiere Elements could greatly learn from that as many mumble, speak too fast or slur on important words and so forth - nice tutorial, thanks heaps!

  • @y2j1980x You can experiment with different shades of green. There is an actual chroma key green color. The idea is to have something so different from skin color (and clothing color) that it can be keyed out, or made invisible. Good luck.

  • Im your BigFAN Nelson!!! thanks for share your experience!!!

  • Thanks for the help!

  • thank you! im doing a project with this and i'm really excited about using the green screen, i hope its as easy as the tutorial made it sound!

  • Great tutorial, thanx!! :) Im trying to do this in my premiere elements 9.0 but it seems it ownt work. There isnt even a green key button. Any tips?

  • @tomkalbo It works on my copy of Elements 9. Not sure what's going on with the copy you have.

  • @csnelsonbsu I could be because i have mac and not windows...

  • @tomkalbo There is a Mac version now.

  • @tomkalbo It is unfortunate that we don't have the chroma key, blue screen, or green screen effects on the Mac version. Why, is unknown. Try Videomerge and see if that works for you.

  • @tomkalbo There is no green screen or chroma key effect on the Mac version. Try Videomerge. It work for you.

  • thanks!!! this video really helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you!!!

  • Thank you - great, simple instructions..

  • Great help :)

  • Excellent video!

  • Wow That's brilliant, I got a new PC with Adobe Premier 8 and am watching a load of Video tutorials like this .

Hoping to do a few videos myself .

    Anway this helped a lot.

  • thanks you so much

  • thank u it really helped me! How many did it cost to u to buy adobe premiere elements? plz answer me on my channel

  • thanks

  • DO U HAVE TO SPLIT IT?

  • @14ghoust Yes, the video must be split if we want to apply the effect to just a portion of the video. It does not have to be split if the entire video will have the green screen filter applied.

  • @14ghoust

yeah but only if you want to do that with a specific part of a video

for example if you don't want to use that effects in the first 10 sec but you want to use it after the 10 sec then you have to split it

and sorry if my english isn't ok :S

  • dose the back ground have to be green?

  • @14ghoust It can be another color like blue, but you need to use the chroma key effect instead of green screen in the software. We are trying to get a color that is very different from skin tone.

  • very good.

  • Great video very helpful!!!!!

  • Is it possible to put you behind the earth shot as if you were peaking out from behind? I learned more in this 3 minutes than the last 3 days of reading. Thanks

  • Do you have to use a green colored background?

  • @DeweyNetworks Only if you use the Green Screen filter. The chroma key green is a splendid choice since it is very different from skin tone (usually). Some people use blue screen and the chroma key filter. Google "chroma key" and you can learn a ton about this.

  • Thanks this video made green screen easy for me

    =)

  • where can u find a piece of felt THAT big?

  • @XSwisSmYcHEeseX Try a fabric store.

  • @csnelsonbsu

    I like it!!!

  • thankyou i was completely lost this really helped

  • WOW, thank you so mutch!!

  • WOW, thank you so mutch!!

  • Thank you so much! You just made my day!

  • What Adobe Premiere type did you use?

  • @Meretth9696 I have used every version from 4 through 8 for this type of effect. Thanks for asking.

  • wow! i never thought it would be that easy, best tutorial ever all the other ones just confuse me :S

thanks for the upload, im subscribing :)

  • Thanks! This really Helped me!

  • thanks for sharing !

  • thank you very muchhh!

  • Thank you so much your video is alot of help :D

  • Got it now! Thanks! I LOVE GREEN SCREEN! hahaha

  • ahah...

    Green Background !!

  • thank you sooo much!!! xxxoooxx

  • you rock!

  • how far from the screen are your standing?

did you have any special consideration for lighting?

  • I did not measure the exact distance, but I made sure I was where I wanted to be in the camera. Lighting should be good enough to eliminate all shadows.

  • @hcmccain

just take 4 or 5 steps away from the screen so there r no shadows on the green screen

  • LOL "greeeeeeeeen screeeeeeeeeeen"

5 stars, this helped me so much!

  • Either you're very good at teaching this or Premiere Elements is easier to work with than Magix or Vegas. Either way, I'm getting this program and subscribing to your channel.

  • I don't know about Magix or Vegas since I have not used them and cannot say anything about which is easier. Elements works well for me most of the time. Every program has its good qualities and some things that we might not like as much. Like most people who work with video I use more than one tool to complete various editing tasks. Good luck with your video work.

  • Your using XP?

    I am to!

    But premier Wont install!

After it installs it goes to unzip folders and stuff then i click use winzip (Witch i have) it just doesnt work!

  • Bummer about the installation problems. Perhaps there is a compatibility problem with something on the system. I have been around computers long enough to know that sometimes weird things happen. Perhaps Adobe support can help you with this.

  • Thank very much!! I've been searching for this for months!! It helped a lot!

  • I am glad it helped.

  • when I hit apply, my screen did not turn black like yours did... help?

  • Just a guess here, but make sure to click on the track with the green screen video first. It is possible it got deselected before applying the effect.

  • is it free?

  • No, but it is more affordable than some programs out there. If you need free software try searching Google. New things come out all the time.

  • ugh i cant put it on video 2

  • I am not sure why. It is hard to guess without seeing your computer. You can try adding another video track and use that. The important thing is that the green screen track is on the upper track.

  • If you click the "chroma key" effect instead, you'll be able to pick your color and have more options on how to get rid of the noise around yourself. It will also allow you to use any color, like purple.

  • Thank you, I would never have founded that out myself!

  • Omg! THAT LOOKS AWESOME!! How much does the soft ware coast? Give this 5 stars!

  • Just Google "Adobe Premiere Elements" and you will be able to comparison shop. If you are a student or teacher there is an academic discount. Version 8 is the most recent.

  • 150

  • Thank you for posting good tutorial. I am using Adobe Priemere Elements 4, yesterday I spent hours making a family video with still pictures saved it etc and was very pleased with it, but today when I opened the video in Adobe the majority of the pictures on the sceneline had disappeared and was replaced with a red background which read "MEDIA OFFLINE". Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  • The media offline message means that the program cannot find the files. Did you happen to move the images or the Adobe Elements project file after creating the project? Try moving things back. Another option is to look under the Edit menu for "Locate Media." From there you should be able to specify where the files are located on your computer hard drive. Good luck.

  • Dr Snellon after reading your reply I located my files which were in my usb drive and was able to retrieve my video which made my day.I am new to this but getting there. I have watched some of your uploads which I find very useful . Many thanks.

  • Awesome! I am glad you found the files and got the project working. It is not fun to lose hours of work. Take care.

  • EXCELLENT tutorial. So simple and helpful.

Thank you for teaching us. 5 stars~!

  • master sencei

    thanks

  • oh no!

    oh no!

  • Wow. Adobe premiere is so simple yet can do so many things. I have ;learned how to clone myself and other effects in just a few minutes. If you want to see the cloning tool in action and how real it can look check my site. I only have a few videos and only one uses that effect. Ask me if you want me to help you. Anyone need help?

  • I think it is great that you are sharing what you know. The more the better.

  • cool, I'm gonna try and use green screen in an animation, will that still work?

  • It might work. I have made it work with machinima after screen recording my avatar in front of a virtual green screen. I would do a very small test movie to make sure first. Good luck.

  • thanks, im actually gonna put the animation together frame by frame in adobe priemere elements by uploding photos. Can the same green screen background run over multiple frames? thanks for the help (:

  • It can, but it kind of depends on whether the background under the green screen is an image or a video. An image can be drug out across the timeline. A video cannot go beyond it's time duration. At least in my experience this has been the case. Video clips that loop can be placed on the timeline back to back if needed.

  • Can you do split screen with Elements and still change the background image?

    Thanks really helpful video..

  • I am going to have to investigate, but it seems like it should be possible. We can have multiple tracks and we can resize videos from those tracks. That is one possibility. No doubt there is an easier way, but I need to see if I can make it work before I commit to that. :-) Maybe it is time for a few new videos on the latest version of Elements.

  • and here i was thinking i was in for a hard task lol. Thank you

  • is it the same for adobe premier elements 7?

  • Yes, it's the same. I was also able to do the same thing with version 8, which just came out recently.

  • Thanks for this. I've just got this Sony Vaio laptop with the software pre-installed. After using Pinnacle video editing software for the last two years, I spent hours struggling with Adobe Premier green screen because it's so much different from Pinnacle. This video helped!. Thanks.

  • I am glad it helped. Good luck with your future projects.

  • hello Csnelsonbsu.. and thanks 4 ur post.

is possible to change the back image 4 a video? thanks

  • Yes, a video can be used. However, we cannot drag the video out along the timeline beyond its length. In other words, a 30 second video can only run in the background for 30 seconds. Images can be drug out along the timeline. Good luck!

  • thankyou very much ))

  • thanks so much 5 stars! xx

  • You are welcome. This was just a demonstration for my students. I am glad it helps other people too.

  • :) hehe (:

  • very good

  • you are so sweet i think its kinda the same in number 8 i have to see but good job! 5 stars for me

  • This is a brilliant video thanks. May I ask what software you are using to capture the screencast?

  • I use Camtasia for screencasts. Thanks for asking.

  • Excellent, I use that on the Mac. Do you use Camtasia Studio? It is a lot more expensive than the Mac version. Great channel by the way, check mine out if you get time.

  • Can the green screen be white?

  • no...

because white is in your skin tone, so if you key out the white, some parts of your skin will also dissapear+ your teeth + your eyes (:

  • can I use other colours?

  • nope, it has to be green or blue for the best effect

  • =[ thanks for the tut but i have adobe premiere 8 and its pretty different =[ i cant drag the pic below it.. do u know anyone that has a video for it?

  • I just got 8 and have not checked on this personally. It is so new that there may not be many videos yet. All you can do is Google for now and see what turns up.

  • Thank you! This is probably the BEST tutorial I've seen of this on here. I'm new to Adobe so this is a great resource.

  • Thanks. It is a bit old though. They just came out with version 8. This techique seems to work across multiple versions though so you should be fine.

  • Great video, have you tried this with blue screen ? if so, then is it the same?

  • No, I have not used blue screen. However, the is a chroma key filter that should work with blue screen. Good luck.

  • Thanks for video :)

  • I have adobe premiere 1.0, so the GUI is completely different. There is a resemblence, but not much. Its not worth the 70 dollar upgrade!

Great tutorial though, this is very usefull.

  • You are right about the different GUI. Elements has a similar interface from version to version, but if you are using the Pro version (?) then it will be very different. Good luck to you though.

  • Great tutorial! :)

  • i went to Michaels and bought two 4' by 12' pieces of green paper.

  • Thank you a lot for this tutorial! I will try this one for sure!!!!

  • Excellent video. Thanks!! I did two things. I went to the dollar store and bought a lime green plastic table cloth for $1 and it worked fine. I then went to another dollar store and purchased four lime green poster boards for $1.49 each for another green screen site for my 14 year old's room. I really appreciate your tutorial!!! GEO

  • These are great suggestions. I would not have even considered the dollar store for green screen gear, but that makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing that tip.

  • thanks you so very much!

  • You are very welcome.

  • I have Adobe Premiere 3.0, and I have problems with adding the picture though. :( good tut btw!

  • That is a bummer. Maybe you will be able to upgrade in the near future.

  • I have bought a new one and your tut has really help! Thank you so so so much! xx :)

  • does it have to be green? could it not be blue or red???

  • It has to be gree when you use the green screen effect in Elements. Otherwise, use the chroma key effect with other colors like blue.

  • it has to be green unfortunately :(

  • thanks you save me ,you know how to do that in photoshop element 7 because i buy the boundle

  • MY GOD! your a life saver! thank you so much!

  • thanks this was a lot of help!!!

  • Does it work with Elements 7?

  • Yes, it definitely works with Elements 7. Check my channel and you will find an updated version of this tutorial for Elements 7.

  • Thank you very much!!

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS

  • Is Adobe Premiere Elements 7 the same?

Does it have the same features so i can use green screen key?

  • Yes, APE 7 is the same as APE 4. Adobe Premiere Elements 7 is just a slightly updated version of APE 4. There's actually no difference to them. So practically their the same so what they had in 4 is still on 7. Hope this helps you! :)

  • I enjoyed your tutorial. Curious, what software are you using to do the software demonstration on your computer monitor?

  • I use Camtasia on a PC for screen recording.

  • thx so much 5 stars!!!

  • This was helpful

  • Thats so easy! I can't believe I couldn't figure that out!

    Thanks SOOOOOO much!!!

  • Excellent, clear instruction. Very helpful.

    Thank you so much.

  • Thanks for the demonstration and simple explanation!!

  • how do I put my video on Video 2??? I only see volume things.

  • There should be a timeline at the bottom of the screen. If there is only one video track try adding another under the Timeline menu. Look for Add Tracks.

  • thanks so much

  • wow! that really helped! i just purchased a green screen and i had no idea how to use it in Adobe premiere elements. thank you so much!

  • Helps aLOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!! Thanks so Much!!!

  • Excelente, Muy buen video.
