the best submarine movie ever made. its not well at the box office because this movie is against USA. if it like crimson tide or other USA favor movie it should be a hit. but this movie is my 1 of the great movie i ever see. so touching. at the ending(the grave yard scene) i sobbed every time when i see the movie. i pray for the nameless heros of k19, who died to save the world from ww3. to us, to comrade, so-to comrades.
@hillncer1 I like the movie too but the whole thing about that kind of accident leading to a nuclear explosion and causing world war 3 is completely false and only added to make the movie more interesting. Nuclear fuel that a sub can use for power and weaponized plotanium used in a bomb are two completely different things.
@airforce4422 No it cant, they wouldnt store nuclear warheads in the nuclear reactor compartment would they? The worse that could have happen is a radiation leak which killed the whole crew.
@airforce4422 *You have NO idea do you?Heat can do nothing, cold can do nothing.A sequencing code in Algorythmicelectrosynapse,is the only way to detonate, otherwise monkeys could steal and launch these payloads. The 'backdoor' plutonium/over-ride will work in pre-1985 module, models only. And too with Ondroclasprotec hardware. The L,Y J and K-18's and 19's,all were fitted with the neo-bioptic,and the Krotronogorik,Russian Mainframes ONLY....which at that point would defeat the purpose of Crtpitosis.
@billy1212ist hmm k-19 incident = 1961 your using an argument from after 1985 so while I agree that it probably wouldn't have happened there is a possibility for something to happen even if its only the torpedoes detonating witch could cause the U.S. to think that they were under attack from the soviets. lastly the k-18 wasn't laid down until 1987 and k is the designation for ballistic submarines in the soviet navy so l,y, and j's didn't have ballistic missiles. The captain was not well informed

Thank you very much to the author of this film and I want to say thank you that you have created such an interesting film. Thank you for what you do not introduce to the Soviet Union as the aggressor, as usually happens in all of American films about Russia that we are the aggressors of this land. After all, we got the achievements on its merits. We deserve this.
If they trully tried to learn with such accident, Chernobyl would never happen. I like, how despite of all adversities they did not give up to the Americans!
@Swordman85 chernobyl was a result of them trying to do experiments with uranium and plutonium. What they did was to remove the safety measures to carry out the experiments, and when one of them failed, the safety measures were not successful in containing the reaction, thus causing a meltdown.
What a breathtaking movie. The sacrfice and the courage exemplified by these brave men is truly commendable. It saddens me that they weren't given the recognition they deserved. In watching this, I think of the selfless workers in Japan who remain in nuclear power plants. They have vowed to tend to the plant's needs in the hopes of preventing a catastrophe. God Bless the men who so bravely ventured out into the sea in 1961 and God bless the men who are presently living through this catastrophe.
It's such an amazing movie, really it's oane of the best films ever. I saw it today and I confess I cried after it... It's really amazing, that was an incredible story, to see those heroes trying to save the rest of people and then dying, it's really emotional. Guys, I suggest you this film, it's simply awesome...
In a film it is a lot of stereotypes and the deformed facts, but this good cinema on its heroic spirit. It seems to me very many doesn't suffice now people in Russia from that old USSR. Alas, democracy and market relations force people to think only of that how to make money, and leave it not enough time to be engaged in soul. I would like that the person kept more him self, rather than any external comfort

K-19 is really great film. I don't understand why critics were so ruthless to this film - nice storyline (based on true events), great acting. Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Peter Sarsgaard and many others did a great job.
Every man that was on board of k-19 should be treated like heroes of our world. The accident of k-19 I think was one of the most important things in the 2nd half of 20th century.
@coverchenko no m8 it is a typhoon class sub the same as the sub in hunt for red october they are about the size of a ww2 us navy aircraft carrier and they have a massive stock pile of nuke eny terrorists wet dream
Every single one of those men deserved to be treated as heroes all over the world. If it were not for them, the possibilities of a nuclear war would have been unavoidable. All of the people should consider these men heroes.
I was really impressed that at least some of the American comments were realistic, for anybody who understands cinema would classify this as a "masterpiece". Watch Full Movie Here BigOnlineMovies . c o m
Very good actors and very good movie. Thanks.
i never cry by films....i do it if its very touching....as a man of late 30´s it doesnt seem to cry because of a film.... but today i cried....i cried a lot....because of k19....those men- who died in the ship,in order to save us- had to be honored one upon. they knew if they wouldnt die- we would.... nameless heros in K19... theys werent medalled by Soviets- because it was just an accident. but still i salute them all..their sacrifice also saved the world ...by the way....a great movei!!!!
@paganviodio well.. im a 15-year old lad and i was sat with my dad at 11:00 pm one night, the end of the film came when they were at the graveyard and i shed loads of tears trying to hide them from my dad. Ever scince, i have been scared of radiation and the causes of it.
Remember the crews of Krusk, they are true heros as well! They are true Matyrs!
The soviet union was dead but the heroic spirits of Russian servicemen shall never dies! The crews of K19 were the generation that endured Stalingrad and of course they are the finest!
@paganviodio It's queer you wanted to cry only because of shown people. Alot of other the soviet submarines and submarines from different countries did the same. But no one made movie about their sacrifices.
K-19: The Widowmaker is based on the true story of K:19, a Soviet submarine of the late 1950's. It was thought to be bad luck after the champagne bottle that was used to christen it failed to break.
The Hunt for Red October is based off a novel by Tom Clancy that was written and set in the mid-1980's.
I just wanted to set the record straight; I mean no offence to you.
The Hunt of Red-October was a silly tasteless joke! It was an insult of Soviet servicemen and was ungrateful!
Disguising, boring and hateful was Tom Clancy's writings! That was fucking movie was a blockbuster was typical american silly dream! Imagine what if the images of US servicemen being dragged in the streets of Morgadisu shown in Black hawks down?
That's your opinion, and I'm not going to argue with you over it. But why did you post it as a reply to my comment? I just tried to clarify a misunderstanding. I did not intend on making a statement on either film.
If you're going to make an entirely new statement on a video, do not reply to a comment; reply to the video itself.
this was a very good film. it was pretty accurate except that in it some members of the crew tried to commit a munity, while actually in the real incident the captain trew all the small arms off the sub.
This is a very good movie about such an important event. Imagine, this event could have triggered WW3. Captain Zateyev and his crew indeed deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.
Yes it is, but I was talking about my cousin, I have 2, my oldest cousin served on it when it was still in the Soviet Navy. My younger cousin serves on it now.
The Dmitri Donskoi is an excellent submarine, it's also the largest one I have ever seen. But my cousin sometimes has to do some mechanical work on it, and he says that he has never seen anything so well made.
My cousin is been part of a Soviet built submarine and not all of them fail miserably. Only a few have failed, and being American you think all of our subs are defective. But you are wrong.
Has anyone the music, when sailors are trying to repair reactor? These gothic choirs? I simply love them, because of them I've got goosebumps at the whole body! This movie was GREAT- excluding some gags- and to be honest- congrats Russia for such a people. Heroes like anyone.
Underrated movie, seriously is a great movie.

It's uranium and plutonium thats mixed together which creates heat, water is then used to keep the system under control and thus creates steam.
So having a water leak, they can no long control the nuclear reaction of the plutonium and uranium and thats the problem they faced.
It's the steam they use to make the sub's motors work.

I absolutely loved this movie. Watched it because of Kathryn Bigelow winning this year, and I can't believe I missed it when it came out.

K-19 is really great film. I don't understand why critics were so ruthless to this film - nice storyline (based on true events), great acting. Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Peter Sarsgaard and many others did a great job.

m from Russia and I was pleasantly surprised that did not show us the villains.
Thank you very much =)

Every man that was on board of k-19 should be treated like heroes of our world. The accident of k-19 I think was one of the most important things in the 2nd half of 20th century.
Thanks to those on board !

Thanks.

I like the remarks from Liam Neeson: There was never a difficult mission!
well said! true reflection of Soviets!

i never cry by films....i do it if its very touching....as a man of late 30´s it doesnt seem to cry because of a film.... but today i cried....i cried a lot....because of k19....those men- who died in the ship,in order to save us- had to be honored one upon. they knew if they wouldnt die- we would.... nameless heros in K19... theys werent medalled by Soviets- because it was just an accident. but still i salute them all..their sacrifice also saved the world ...by the way....a great movei!!!!

DOTTYROSETORUNSKI 2 years ago
@paganviodio well.. im a 15-year old lad and i was sat with my dad at 11:00 pm one night, the end of the film came when they were at the graveyard and i shed loads of tears trying to hide them from my dad. Ever scince, i have been scared of radiation and the causes of it.

Remember the crews of Krusk, they are true heros as well! They are true Matyrs!
The soviet union was dead but the heroic spirits of Russian servicemen shall never dies! The crews of K19 were the generation that endured Stalingrad and of course they are the finest!

Have you ever heard of a little thing called "Spell Check"? Or, heaven forbid, a "dictionary"?

@paganviodio If you liked this movie you will be intrested in the Chernobyl crisis.
The Russians made a lot of vain sacrifices in that disaster.
DannyJamesRead 1 year ago
@paganviodio It's queer you wanted to cry only because of shown people. Alot of other the soviet submarines and submarines from different countries did the same. But no one made movie about their sacrifices.

why widow maker?

Best thing abt the movie are the dialogues which inspire a lot n reflect dedication and devotion
mastermindsnow 2 years ago
is this based on the same story of hunt for red otober??? seems very similar..indeed a good movie, with a dark truth almost hard to believe.
normannobrot 2 years ago
K-19: The Widowmaker is based on the true story of K:19, a Soviet submarine of the late 1950's. It was thought to be bad luck after the champagne bottle that was used to christen it failed to break.
The Hunt for Red October is based off a novel by Tom Clancy that was written and set in the mid-1980's.
I just wanted to set the record straight; I mean no offence to you.
Jaeger7793 2 years ago 4
The Hunt of Red-October was a silly tasteless joke! It was an insult of Soviet servicemen and was ungrateful!
Disguising, boring and hateful was Tom Clancy's writings! That was fucking movie was a blockbuster was typical american silly dream! Imagine what if the images of US servicemen being dragged in the streets of Morgadisu shown in Black hawks down?
reddragonguy65 2 years ago
That's your opinion, and I'm not going to argue with you over it. But why did you post it as a reply to my comment? I just tried to clarify a misunderstanding. I did not intend on making a statement on either film.
If you're going to make an entirely new statement on a video, do not reply to a comment; reply to the video itself.
Jaeger7793 2 years ago
no. this is based on a true story, red october was a fiction.

this was a very good film. it was pretty accurate except that in it some members of the crew tried to commit a munity, while actually in the real incident the captain trew all the small arms off the sub.
This is a very good movie about such an important event. Imagine, this event could have triggered WW3. Captain Zateyev and his crew indeed deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Hotel-class submarine was portrayed by a K-77 sub in the movie.

But I only know about that one sub. I don't know about the other classes.

Yes it is, but I was talking about my cousin, I have 2, my oldest cousin served on it when it was still in the Soviet Navy. My younger cousin serves on it now.
TheLordDarthBane 2 years ago
The Dmitri Donskoi is an excellent submarine, it's also the largest one I have ever seen. But my cousin sometimes has to do some mechanical work on it, and he says that he has never seen anything so well made.
TheLordDarthBane 2 years ago
My cousin is been part of a Soviet built submarine and not all of them fail miserably. Only a few have failed, and being American you think all of our subs are defective. But you are wrong.
TheLordDarthBane 2 years ago 5
I don't think so. I'll have to ask my cousin he knows these sort of things.

Has anyone the music, when sailors are trying to repair reactor? These gothic choirs? I simply love them, because of them I've got goosebumps at the whole body! This movie was GREAT- excluding some gags- and to be honest- congrats Russia for such a people. Heroes like anyone.
