  • super

  • This is the best Icelandic band in my opinion :)

  • Thank you for founding this track.

I have seen it before since some minutes on mtv prefered from placebo.

the track remember me on gost town prypiat near on Tscheronobyl and the children there lost his live after the nuclear accident -"super gau" on april 1986.

  • This video gives me chills from head to toe every time...

    xoxo

    BK Crew

  • @carcrashsequence - Everyones entitled to an opinion, but i think they are just sharing what the song means to them, and what they think it means. Why even post? They werent saying anything mean or offensive and you put them down for discussing the video, how fair is that? "life isnt fair" yeah, sure, but everyones still free to discuss what they want about the song

  • *_* wonderful

  • @carcrashsequence i do agree, but i do think there is a meaning to the video, altough we will never know that meaning because non of us personnaly knows anyone of sigur ros and more specaluting about the meaning of the video is indeed very dumb and irrelevant (i know my english sucks but i normally speak dutch so...)

  • Troll alert!!!

  • I remember seeing this on MTV in the morning when I was in Middle school. This is the first time I've seen it in like eight years because I didn't know what it was called, but it stuck in my mind all this time. So glad I found it.

  • same here! and i couldn't remember the name of the band for so long!

  • beautifull song made me cry a couple of times good quality

  • I think the video, rather than literally being about nuclear war or the end of the world, is actually a metaphor for how dangerous the world is, and how children are blissfully unware of the danger all around them.

  • This is amazing in high quality.

  • Beautiful and touching...beyond words.

They should place this recording in a box and leave it somewhere for civilizations 1000 years in the future to listen. They´ll be touched also.

  • beautiful <3

    this video is a artwork

  • Quel groupe de musique arrive à cet hauteur ... Je n'en connais pas. C'est tellement prenant.

  • c'est sigur ros de Iceland, c'est Icelandic, désolé mon français est mauvais.

  • Maybe the message here is we need to make sure the future is a good place for our children?

  • love it

  • Powerful like a dream. Thanks a lot boys.

  • i love it.....it is unbelievebel.....

  • awesome!

  • this is an absolute lush song! heard it for the first time earlier, i was flipping through the music channels and it was on one of the weird ones, glad i went on it now :)

  • ___Que dia pasará ésto___Cada vez lo siento más cerca__

  • Reminds me of Pyramid Song by Radiohead, but more human and not as many lyrics. Both are very sad, both have apocalyptic videos, both are piano-based, and both are very beautiful. There are more similarities, but they're more difficult to describe.

  • i dont think so, the voices ARE awesome

  • It's a masterpiece. I had to watch it a few times to understand the story, but it is definitely beautiful.

  • does anybody have the tabs for the piano of this song?

  • Fuckin great vid, amazing.."language"

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, the link in the comments says i can download it from that website, but- unless I'm just blind - I can't find the actual download link.

Could somebody please direct me exactly to where it is? I really like this theme.

  • Shoot, disregard; I found it under media.

  • A Swiftly Tilting Planet...it seems like this.

  • This video is simply breathtaking. I remember the first time I watched it, I couldn't speak for about 15 minutes...it's still heartbreaking.

  • It made me cry.

    Its just so different. <3

  • Smuk sang :) Det gør helt ondt i hjertet..

  • This is the song to play when the end of the world comes.

  • You think we'll be playing a song when the end of the world comes? I was thinking more running and screaming, but a disco could be fun too.

  • There are no lyrics to this song. All of the tracks on this album ( ) are sung in what people have dubbed "Vonlenska" or "Hopelandic". Its basically a sort of gibberish, similar to Icelandic in the way it sounds, that Jónsi often sings in.

  • this video is a dream that i made when i was young

  • Had goosebumbs the entire way through that,

  • Whether or not peter was wrong about your high-res screen (lol, like, nice one peter, for totally not knowing that...?)

His point remains valid, people will always talk about the video in the comments, so there was no need to be so aggressive.

  • great song - reminds me of burn girl prom queen by mogwai once it gets in to it.

    both are great songs

  • Gas masks frighten me. their use and just the plain look of them.

  • Nooo there are no lyrics for this song.

And there is no 'hopelandic', some reporter just dubbed it as such.

Their "language" is sound simulated by emotion.

When you have emotion too strong for words, this is what you get.

The guys aren't too fond of the term Hopelandic.

  • Is he singing in English or Icelandic?

  • i think its their own made up languege, i cant remember what they call it

  • hopelandic

  • I found a picture of the people in gas masks Im a heavy metal fan and i thought id check it out but it wernt but it is a good piece of music nonoftheless very unique P.S it sounds like coldplay

  • Sounds like coldplay!?

Bet coldplay wish they could sound like this but they don't come close in any way!

    IMHO Absolutely no similarity!

  • This is true art. Really true art. Unbelievably beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • I think this video is so touching...I always get goosebumps watching it...not to mention the music which is, of course, as great as every song by sigur rós...=)

  • thumbs up.

  • this song chills me to the bone wish i new what the lyrics were or meant

  • I think the lyrics in this are hopelandic = nothing. Jonsi sings them in quite a few other songs. Sounds like "You sign alone. Fy. You sigh."

  • i think the song is about the damage we have on the world and the future for our children just a guess :)

  • I looked it up cause i was curious too, this is what i got: you sigh low tonight, you're so alone, you're so.. you sigh low tonight, you're so alone, you're so.. you're so low, you're so alone, you're so.. you sigh low, you sigh low, you're so..
  • so simple yet sooooooooo meaningful. I LOVE SIGUR ROS

  • Good song but predictable at the en

  • this made me tear up.

    its beautiful.

  • i first saw this when i was about ten i think. It really moved me because i didn't know that i could feel so happy and so sad at the same time. I think the song is beautiful and the video is incredible. It changed my views on music when i first heard it.

  • dis song is beautiful

  • i think shows how children are our future while the world is corrupt

  • No.

  • Jonsi certainly has some kind of obsession with children´s innocence. It´s the most beautiful thing to ever walk the face of the earth, no doubt.

  • always someone

  • one of the most beautiful yet tragic things i've ever seen / heard.

  • Thats the truth

  • its kind of nice not knowing what is being sung as it is so beautiful against the rather tragic outlook on our potential future

  • This is what some people say the world will look like after the effects of Global Warming.

    I don't know.

  • Maybe it will. This video sort of shocks you. I don't want to live in a world like that. Ever. And I don't ever want my children or my grandchildren to. Where everything is dead and nothing lives. And there's no trees or green or anything.

  • I think it's meant to be a nuclear fallout/winter

  • yeah its meant to be a nuclear fallout. thats why the gasmasks are there

  • Probably best not to look at the comments then

    Dipshit

People are going to be talking about the video in the comments. Theres obviously gonna be spoilers, so why look until after you've watched the video?

  • Then notice you: First watch the vid, second take a look in the comments

  • wonderful song...

is there anybody, who could send me this song ? 489-154-014

  • perfect music for "After the Wedding"

  • This is even sadder than njosnavelin with both being very beautiful. This video is just brilliant and shows what the world could be coming to and gives us all a reason to fight to keep this world picturesque and to keep those images of the worlds amazing beauty in our minds

  • this band from Iceland ... there may be other band like that doing good music in estonia, the Czech Republic, Bosnia, lithuania, Latvija, belarus, Finland???

  • who know???????

  • I saw this video on the TV a while ago, and it introduced me to Sigur Ros, and I am so glad! I now always flick to that music channel to see if this is on (it rarely is, unfortunately)

    It's fascinating.

I also think that Icelandic strangely sounds like somebody singing backwards, haha.

  • i can be wrong but i think this whole album was in Hopelandic.

  • your spot on, well part of the album is in hopelandic and other parts are icelandic :)

  • One of my favourite videos....lol WELL unexpected from sum1 like me but this is a HEVVY vid!!

  • now that's art.

    fucking brilliant.

  • Oh my god, this is one of saddest music videos I've ever seen. And the song is so much beautiful!

  • this song really makes u sit and think it makes u feel soo many emotions at once i have decided to use it for my gcse dance piece just for the fact it is truely breathtaking

  • FUCKING YOUTUBE!!!! Blocked this in my country due to "copyright restrictions" Now I can only access the comments page in this song thru some replies to my previous comments here. Can sum1 give me an idea of how to unblock videos unathorized in my country. It would be deeply appreciated. FUCKING YOUTUBE, I WILL FUCKING CLOSE MY ACCT HERE!!!

  • you cant get around it they take your i.p code and that cant be blocked. The use I.P codes for lots of things like tracking sex offenders etc by the police. So you cant block it :( ITS ANNOYING.

  • be patient and try to surf the web with a shadow ip is possible to go everywhere in shadow mode

  • if you guys love this, check out "shook" sigur ros/mobb deep mashup by emancipator :D

  • i dont think you can define their unique style, to do so would leave to inevitable dissatisfaction. they speak a language for all to love, for all to hope and for all to dream. take what you may from their work, but leave with it what u can, through this life and the next, O Doyle Rules

  • Good stuff.

  • I doubt in my lifetime ill ever find another artist that i dont understand the language to and yet still effects me deeply on a profound level

  • i hope in like 2000 years or soemthing liek that, when peopel are looking for artifacts, they find sigur ros music. The music they create is like ineffable and it is too good to be forgotten.

  • O My God. Nicole I miss you so much my life is so empty without you! My Mind is only with you. I dont know what I should do. I love you forever. We see us in Heaven

    Forever in Love, Michael

    thinking of you

  • man, whoever this person is, they are probably going through a rough time. This song brings out emotions in people which compels them to speak out. As with skky8822, he/she unfortunately chose the rather pathetic means of expressing these feelings, but who are we to judge this sorry excuse for a human.

  • well said scottmans, whoever you may be. it is a deep, emotional song which brings out mixed emotions, and sure it may remind you of the passing of a loved one. But you must posess a strong craving for attention and be a real pathetic lowlife coward if your goin to post your most intimate feeling on a public website like youtube, using them to confide in strangers

  • Maybe its easier to confide in a stranger then a best friend for this person, i understand that we may not want to hear it. but maybe for us to just sit and listen for a second could help them more then to sit and post harsh comments. either way, sky has not posted a hateful comment towards you or scott. unless you can turn around and say your perfect, neither can call her "pathetic" or "low life". infact some would call you the coward for saying such harsh words behind a screen.

  • Don't worry buddy I can understand how you feel, I hope you feel better and never listen to ass holes like these people.

  • When i watch this all I can think about is my future children, and seeing them inherit the hell that we could create on this earth, and all of the terrible things that we do to each other. No matter what the symbolism represents, I pray that it never comes to fruition.

  • I just have come to realize something, maybe the video doesn't warn us of what the future holds, but instead its about what happens now. I think its about how we allow and expect our children to be innocent and ,as time goes on and they play in the filth of the world, we hope our flimsy protection can save them from it, but in the end, they will lose their innocence and realize things that they never should have to. Like the girl losing her mask...

  • you have words of wisdom

  • Comment removed

  • your both unbeleivably pretentious

  • this video should be played throiought the whole world, this really make you think about how we are treating the world, basically the video is sayig, "if we dont stop polluting the world or just tone it down, our children and their childrens children will have to live in a world exactly as its shown here" think about it, how horrid it would be. i cry when ever i see the vid or listen to the song

  • i don't think it's about the world. i think it is about us, humans. How we start off innocent, like children, but get polluted and lose our innocence by the world/society we live in as we grow older. Not until our deathbed we stop and think "WTF" and see that long lost innocence we had as kids bla bla bla bla ... i'm really stoned now.

  • I agree. Lots of people are saying its about global warming, but I think its just symbolism of how people can lose their childish sides and their innocence if they arent careful in this world.

  • It can be viewed different ways. I believe it's about war and its effects on our children and later generations.

  • i think its for interpritation, it could mean both

  • O god, its so deep.

  • Wow.......

    ....Amazing...

  • I freakin love this song

  • I don't get it, but that's half the brilliance

  • I think the point is, we leave childeren a poisoned and destroyed world ..leaving them to play in dirt and ashes.

  • every single sigur ros video has one moment that just sends goosebumps through my whole body.

and the music is something else. something special.

  • im int the same boat as u , there amazing and i always get goose bumps too :D....

  • this is a brilliant song for a sad scene on tv or on stage.

  • ...such a beautiful song...

  • simply wonderfull :|

  • oh my.. amazing!!

  • Quite possibly the most touching piece of contemporary music.

  • What about Góðan Daginn?

  • It´s pretty but this one takes the prize...the atmosphere it creates is so....beyond words. It could be the soundtrack for the saddest scene of the saddest movie you could picture.

  • Góðan Daginn does have a positive feeling - This Day is Good. Maybe listen to it after this song.

Or if you want a really good cry, watch the film "Grave of the Fireflies" with Vaka playing in the background. Make sure to have two or three boxes of kleenexes close by.

  • best song ever+

  • agreed pal this is soo amazin

  • this song is crushingly beautiful

  • I found the video to be very stirring and vivid. I felt chills as these children played amongst the charred land which, I presume, is the result of nuclear winter. Very sad, a little depressing, but overall I say it was great. Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers.

  • Wow... this scares the shit out of me and makes me cry... it's beautiful...

  • Wholy crap this video and music is amazing

  • Absolutly amazing video and music

  • most amazing feeling generated through this song, completely personal and incredible...

  • great song great vid

  • beautiful and horrible at the same time

  • oh myyy goooooodddddd

  • insane :(

  • Beautiful, profound and so much more.

  • this is beautiful.

  • senza parole! uno dei video piu belli che siano mai tsati realizzati!

  • straordinario

  • you sigh low tonight.. you're so alone.. you're so..

  • why are people marking this down?

this is what someone interprets it as saying.

    don't be assholes.

    I think its beautiful

  • I think you're right.

At first I thought he sang "

you sold a lie, your soul, you sigh alone, you sigh alone, your soul..." but then I read that all the lyrics are sung in Vonlenska (aka Hopelandic) which explains why it sounds abit like english but it's not really. Beautiful song anyway, I'll put this disc on when I get home.

  • personally.....and just my read on it... the film clip seems to show children being sent out into a toxic environment, nothing literal just the youth of today being exposed to the toxic nature of our race and being robbed of a childhood...growing up to fast, some not surviving the harsh reality

  • The best song of Sigur Rós.

  • "Loftarasa" is better in my opinion.

  • glosoli is mine. i love them all though i thinks its cos it was the first sigur ros song i heard. plus it has an awesome video clip

  • This was the first SR video I ever saw around 5 or 6 yrs ago and it left a lasting impression on me. I knew this band was something special, nowadays my fav is seaglopur but I love them all.

  • This is the most beautiful music-video I know of..

  • The world is drowned in ashes, and the air is depraved of the vital oxygen...

Yet still, the children play along, with Death as if it was Life. They are unaware of danger, innocent, naive... and one of them takes his mask away... suddenly the game is not a game anymore.

This song is deeply sad and so beautiful. The video expresses all that very well. Genius. D.R.
