@carcrashsequence - Everyones entitled to an opinion, but i think they are just sharing what the song means to them, and what they think it means. Why even post? They werent saying anything mean or offensive and you put them down for discussing the video, how fair is that? "life isnt fair" yeah, sure, but everyones still free to discuss what they want about the song
@carcrashsequence i do agree, but i do think there is a meaning to the video, altough we will never know that meaning because non of us personnaly knows anyone of sigur ros and more specaluting about the meaning of the video is indeed very dumb and irrelevant (i know my english sucks but i normally speak dutch so...)
I remember seeing this on MTV in the morning when I was in Middle school. This is the first time I've seen it in like eight years because I didn't know what it was called, but it stuck in my mind all this time. So glad I found it.
I think the video, rather than literally being about nuclear war or the end of the world, is actually a metaphor for how dangerous the world is, and how children are blissfully unware of the danger all around them.
this is an absolute lush song! heard it for the first time earlier, i was flipping through the music channels and it was on one of the weird ones, glad i went on it now :)
Reminds me of Pyramid Song by Radiohead, but more human and not as many lyrics. Both are very sad, both have apocalyptic videos, both are piano-based, and both are very beautiful. There are more similarities, but they're more difficult to describe.
There are no lyrics to this song. All of the tracks on this album ( ) are sung in what people have dubbed "Vonlenska" or "Hopelandic". Its basically a sort of gibberish, similar to Icelandic in the way it sounds, that Jónsi often sings in.
you sat along the fly, you saw it alive, you sawx2 Youre so far along, youre so alive, your so. You sighed so low, you sighed so low, your so (You sigh...) You sat along the fly, you saw it alive, you sawx2 Youre so far along, youre so alive, your so. You sighed so low, you sighed so low, your so (You sigh...) Youre sure? Oh oh ooh oh uh ooh Oh oh ooh oh uh ooh You (You sat along, along my sky) x7 You sat along, along my sh-x3 You sat along
I found a picture of the people in gas masks Im a heavy metal fan and i thought id check it out but it wernt but it is a good piece of music nonoftheless very unique P.S it sounds like coldplay
I think this video is so touching...I always get goosebumps watching it...not to mention the music which is, of course, as great as every song by sigur rós...=)
I looked it up cause i was curious too, this is what i got: you sigh low tonight, you're so alone, you're so.. you sigh low tonight, you're so alone, you're so.. you're so low, you're so alone, you're so.. you sigh low, you sigh low, you're so..
i first saw this when i was about ten i think. It really moved me because i didn't know that i could feel so happy and so sad at the same time. I think the song is beautiful and the video is incredible. It changed my views on music when i first heard it.
Maybe it will. This video sort of shocks you. I don't want to live in a world like that. Ever. And I don't ever want my children or my grandchildren to. Where everything is dead and nothing lives. And there's no trees or green or anything.

man, whoever this person is, they are probably going through a rough time. This song brings out emotions in people which compels them to speak out. As with skky8822, he/she unfortunately chose the rather pathetic means of expressing these feelings, but who are we to judge this sorry excuse for a human.
well said scottmans, whoever you may be. it is a deep, emotional song which brings out mixed emotions, and sure it may remind you of the passing of a loved one. But you must posess a strong craving for attention and be a real pathetic lowlife coward if your goin to post your most intimate feeling on a public website like youtube, using them to confide in strangers
Maybe its easier to confide in a stranger then a best friend for this person, i understand that we may not want to hear it. but maybe for us to just sit and listen for a second could help them more then to sit and post harsh comments. either way, sky has not posted a hateful comment towards you or scott. unless you can turn around and say your perfect, neither can call her "pathetic" or "low life". infact some would call you the coward for saying such harsh words behind a screen.
When i watch this all I can think about is my future children, and seeing them inherit the hell that we could create on this earth, and all of the terrible things that we do to each other. No matter what the symbolism represents, I pray that it never comes to fruition.
I just have come to realize something, maybe the video doesn't warn us of what the future holds, but instead its about what happens now. I think its about how we allow and expect our children to be innocent and ,as time goes on and they play in the filth of the world, we hope our flimsy protection can save them from it, but in the end, they will lose their innocence and realize things that they never should have to. Like the girl losing her mask...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
when i watch this, i believe this is a poignant manifestation of the horrors of the world trade centre attacks. I believe the director borrowed heavily from the movie 'The Mask', with Jim Carrey portraying a disillusioned man who comes in contact with super powers to mighty for him to handle. overall i give this video '3 thumbs up'.
this video should be played throiought the whole world, this really make you think about how we are treating the world, basically the video is sayig, "if we dont stop polluting the world or just tone it down, our children and their childrens children will have to live in a world exactly as its shown here" think about it, how horrid it would be. i cry when ever i see the vid or listen to the song
i don't think it's about the world. i think it is about us, humans. How we start off innocent, like children, but get polluted and lose our innocence by the world/society we live in as we grow older. Not until our deathbed we stop and think "WTF" and see that long lost innocence we had as kids bla bla bla bla ... i'm really stoned now.
I agree. Lots of people are saying its about global warming, but I think its just symbolism of how people can lose their childish sides and their innocence if they arent careful in this world.
It´s pretty but this one takes the prize...the atmosphere it creates is so....beyond words. It could be the soundtrack for the saddest scene of the saddest movie you could picture.
Góðan Daginn does have a positive feeling - This Day is Good. Maybe listen to it after this song.
Or if you want a really good cry, watch the film "Grave of the Fireflies" with Vaka playing in the background. Make sure to have two or three boxes of kleenexes close by.
I found the video to be very stirring and vivid. I felt chills as these children played amongst the charred land which, I presume, is the result of nuclear winter. Very sad, a little depressing, but overall I say it was great. Thanks for sharing!
Muy buen comentario, expresa muy bien lo que muchos experimentamos al introducirnos en el universo de sigur rós. Los que han tenido la suerte de verlos en directo, aseguran que son magia en estado puro. La mejor banda del momento? Para mí sin duda.
you sold a lie, your soul, you sigh alone, you sigh alone, your soul..." but then I read that all the lyrics are sung in Vonlenska (aka Hopelandic) which explains why it sounds abit like english but it's not really. Beautiful song anyway, I'll put this disc on when I get home.
personally.....and just my read on it... the film clip seems to show children being sent out into a toxic environment, nothing literal just the youth of today being exposed to the toxic nature of our race and being robbed of a childhood...growing up to fast, some not surviving the harsh reality
This was the first SR video I ever saw around 5 or 6 yrs ago and it left a lasting impression on me. I knew this band was something special, nowadays my fav is seaglopur but I love them all.
The world is drowned in ashes, and the air is depraved of the vital oxygen...
Yet still, the children play along, with Death as if it was Life. They are unaware of danger, innocent, naive... and one of them takes his mask away... suddenly the game is not a game anymore.
This song is deeply sad and so beautiful. The video expresses all that very well. Genius. D.R.

Nooo there are no lyrics for this song.
And there is no 'hopelandic', some reporter just dubbed it as such.
Their "language" is sound simulated by emotion.
When you have emotion too strong for words, this is what you get.

Cheers.

Muy buen comentario, expresa muy bien lo que muchos experimentamos al introducirnos en el universo de sigur rós. Los que han tenido la suerte de verlos en directo, aseguran que son magia en estado puro. La mejor banda del momento? Para mí sin duda.

I think you're right.
At first I thought he sang "
you sold a lie, your soul, you sigh alone, you sigh alone, your soul..." but then I read that all the lyrics are sung in Vonlenska (aka Hopelandic) which explains why it sounds abit like english but it's not really.

Genius. D.R.
