@rickbluespower - He ultimately died of AIDS. No disrespect - Robbin was a huge presence in person (was friends with a girl he dated when "in town") and he was a big part of RATT's trademark sound, despite Warren taking the spotlight on most solos. My #1 favorite band of the 80s.
I've seen Ratt quite a few times and they never failed to deliver. Great band with great songs! IMHO, Warren never got the credit he deserved and deserves today. He has great tone and dexterity and he's always at 100% when he takes the stage!
@SonofMorgoth ....I moved just a few feet to the right.....just to the other side of his monitor....looks like that's what did it....I like that part with just his guitar in the mix....
@SonofMorgoth well you see the weird triangle thing on the floor thats a speaker/amp so warren gets a clear sound from his guitar so he can check tunning and stuff
... so ... what you got? ... a little Mackie mixer your running from the stage .. lol ... why would you trash this post ... I think it is pretty cool to see 2 legend guitar players this raw ...
712 Musicman ... are you like a magician? ... you can mix a camcorder??? ... I will be willing to bet that the front of house was fine ... if you know as much as you say you do ... you would know that the camcorder was picking up stage volume and not the mix ... right in front of Warren's rig ... it wasn't picking up the vocals from the PA ... probably just from the monitors which were of course directed towards the band
1st thing is to FIRE sound man !! I know it's probably bootleg ,but that's no excuse for not turning up the mics !! People pay big bucks for these concerts, & it's always the same,U can't ever hear the BASS player or the singer, only drums&guitar!! This is a travesty to audience & to the musicians !! When R sound techs gonna get it ??When U R on stage U can hear everyone, U do not know audience can't hear some players,That's why I run my own sound, cause I know how it's supposed to sound !! LOL
Damn ...Schenker and Demartini? Thats like a metal guitar TASTE SUMMIT...two of the very finest. If you were going to chisel faces on the Axe Mount Rushmore for Hard Rock...these guys would be in the team picture.
No disrespect to Ratt but I would have seen Ratt just to see Schenker and Warren play off each other.....these two totally outshine the rest of the band in this gig...
Robbin was in rehab at that time. He was replaced because the heroine thing was out of control, and his live performances were awful in the Detonator Tour. Hail to Ratt!!!!
He's Schenker and he's God and everything - but oooops-ah - does he flub that last lick! But what can DeMartini say or do about it except laugh? It's Michael God Schenker, dude...
Michael Schenker was helping RATT by playing live, due to the fact they are a two guitar band. This video is a bootleg and not a properly mixed, edited, live video. Sounds good for what you can hear. Anyways Robbin was great guitarist, he was a big part of RATT and part of the original chemistry. Schenker is a legendary guitarist of his own right.
I dont really like live stuff to begin with but when this bootlegger happened to stumble over in front of warrens amp @ 1:25-2:25 it shows just how clean and tight his playing is. - great!!!
That's because Robbin was not a millionth of the talent that Schenker is. Warren always smoked him in the soloing category. He did write good songs tho!
Everything off Out of the Cellar and Invasion of Your Privacy are money. Out of the Cellar has better songs, but Invasion has a unique heavy sound that is unequaled on any of their other work. It's like they raised the bar on Invasion, but never even tried to top it.
It was heavy and melodic in a way that was balanced and not fragmented or forced.
Look at a lot of today's metal bands and everything seems formulaic: growling verse, screaming breakdown and whiny chorus.
One of the great things about Ratt was that they knew how to be catchy and edgy to the point that they nailed it down to a philosophy and science (right down to the track listing).
Dancing Undercover was a very good album but Beau Hill's production weakened them.
Yea, I agree. Beau is responsible for weakening their sound. I'm not sure what he was thinking on Dancing Undercover other than trying to appeal to a larger "pop" audience. Maybe he was being pressured by the top brass to make Ratt sound less metal....and Invasion was metal.
I appreciate the fact that it was something new. There was some funky elements and the bass was dominant (pretty rare considering the time of genre).
But Beau had used Ratt's money and time to work with his girlfriend so they were compromised.
Apparently, Juan is a big fan of pop, soul and R&B so that could be why the album wasn't quite as metal. Although ironically, it was him who suggested that the Detonator album be a return to the heavy sounds of the EP than the pop metal album it became.
reallys ad what happened to robin considering that his catchy riffs were the soul of the band but he still didnt get much attention. this band crashed out after he left.
Juan said that once Rob left, that was the true beginning of the end for RATT.
Rob was the peacemaker, tiebreaker, diplomat (whatever you want to call it) who helped to keep the band together. He was to the band what Metallica's Kirk is to James and Lars.
Rob was the composer of the EP even if Ste was the lyricist for it. It was his trademark heavy blues style that carved a niche for the band among a crowded hard rock scene (like Dimebag did for Pantera among the crowded thrash metal scene).
Rob had left the band by the point Mike came in for MTV Unplugged and the Las Vegas performance.
Juan said that the management was getting tired of Rob's substance abuse problems and were convinced that RATT could work as a four piece so the ploy was to get Rob to leave the band by offering him work as a producer.
The idea never materialized despite Rob being given the opportunity to produce a grunge group called Mail Order Brides (a band Rob felt could have been as big as Alice in Chains).
True. Without him, the band could never truly return to that heavy sound of the EP. Beyond that, he had a consistently solid flair for writing strong hooks. He had a strong sense of groove and made for a nice counteract to Warren's style of guitaring.
When they turned him down in '97, they could have at least replaced him with original Ratt member Jake E. Lee or even Schenker.
RATT with a SCORP??? I had no idea!! Warren DiMartini, class act as usual! Gave some solo time to Mikey!! Bravo; well done! All you f-tard bad mouthers can can suck and egg. I liked Robbin too, but replacement members in bands are just a fact of the business. GET OVER IT!
BTW: Robbin (along with Punky Meadows, Rick Derringer and yes...Eddie Van Halen) was among the final 10 candidates to replace Ace Frehley in Kiss in 1982.
You left out one thing before they asked the yoyo's you mentioned Kiss asked Michael Schenker but turned Kiss down. Michael Schenker turned down offers from Ozzy, deep Purple, Aerosmith, Rollingstone and Whitesnakes.
Eddie killed that false rumor years ago. He wasnt offered the Kiss job ONCE. in 1982 VH was bigger than Kiss....he would have been downgrading by joining them.
Yeah, you're right...I was getting it mixed up with an earlier date. I think they were considering Eddie back in 77...
It's 'urband legend' that Eddie was actually in the sessions for Love Gun but his stuff wound up on the cutting room floor. But you're right, He wasn't among the 1982 candidates. My mistake
With that said, before he did Diver Down, he was getting annoyed with David Lee Roth so Eddie wanted to join Kiss (especially since he was aware Gene Simmons was having problems with his guitarist at the time).
Gene convinced him that it wouldn't make sense for him to leave Van Halen given that it was his own band and that as long as he's in a band called Van Halen, he calls the shots.
matzohgoy, don't get me wrong, I respect Schenk but the point that a lot of Robbin's fans are making is that it's not fair that Warren was reluctant in sharing lead guitar duties with Rob than he was with Mike.
Becouse Schenker is a great guitar player and Robbin couldn't hold Schenker jock. Plus at the time Robbbin has his own personal demons he had to deal with, which unfortunatly lead to his ultimate demise..very sad story indeed..
actually robbins drug habbit got so bad that at times he was literally physically unable to play. I love robbin to death but you cant blame warren and stephen for him leaving, thats ridiculous. it was his extreme heroin addiction that led to him leaving
Actually, VH1 aired "Ratt: Behind the Music" a few years ago. They told us the story of how Robbin "grabbed the wrong guitar" for the dueling part of the solo of this very song. Supposedly, it sounded awful and the rest of the guys and the audience stared and gaped at Robbin's gaffe. Supposedly, this was the final straw. But VH1 played that portion of the song from that fateful concert. What was so awful about it? I have yet to find a video of this posted so I can re-check. Was it so bad?
How many bands, or members of Ratt itself, have played while drunk or high? Come on. Steven himself must've been flying quite a few times. Like I said, I saw the VH1 episode 2-3 years ago, it didn't sound as bad as they made it out to be. Why can't I find that clip here or on VH1's site? If it was so bad, maybe I'd understand if I could listen a few more times.
According to Juan (who contributed information to the Wikipedia site), Rob's guitar technician for some reason didn't swap his guitar for another one.
Juan saw no reason as to why the technician couldn't have just gone on stage to switch it so as to hide any embarrassment for the band (apparently Rob couldn't hear the technician due to being intoxicated).
Given how everyone (minus Juan) wanted Rob out of the band, maybe this was management's excuse to get Rob fired.
and im not insulting robbin in anyway addictions do that to anybody i love robbin im not tryin to hate at all i think he was one of the coolest talented people in the band
plus sad to admit but those cycling pants were "cool" in 89-91... i myself regularly wore a pair onstage in my bar band but they were dayglo green....plus the terminator shirt...pure 91, very zeitgeist
LOL where the hell did that come from? you are a cunt. warren is a good person and a cool guy ive met him before hes great your a cunt if you think anything bad of him just because he diddnt give a traditional faggot high five like you probly do
I read about the riff similarities at the Amazon size on a review of Out of the Cellar.
Somebody else on YouTube mentioned it too. For some time now, I've been trying to tell people but the ones who don't believe are G'N'R fanatics.
I concur about listening to Ratt post-91. It's hard to feel excited about anything they do. At least if they still had Juan, I could be somewhat enthused. When they do songs from the EP live, it lacks the heaviness required.
I had front row in front of Warren on the '89 tour. It sounded a lot like this....A LOT of Warren. It was very difficult to here King Crosby's guitar work.
Sounds like Pearcy actually sang in key this night. That's very rare sighting.
Yeah, Schenker was with them on this tour. He came out during Round and stayed out on stage for dirty Job, way cool, and a couple encore's....was very cool...I was right in front of Warrens monitor...so i got alot of guitar on audio!!
You can hear Warren's guitar nice and clear on this.Great job...I owe you SO MUCH for taping this gig!!! Thanks, man! Jeezus...fuckin MICHAEL SCHENKER playing Robbin's part.Did you know he was coming out? That would have been so amazing seeing him walk out.

plus sad to admit but those cycling pants were "cool" in 89-91... i myself regularly wore a pair onstage in my bar band but they were dayglo green....plus the terminator shirt...pure 91, very zeitgeist

This song sounds like "Unchained" of VAN HALEN.
contabilidad03 3 years ago
I thought it was Lay it Down that was meant to be the one that sounds like Unchained.
Minus the vocal melodies, the rhythm is somewhat similar in verse and chorus.
I think the riff prior to the chorus is highly reminiscent of the one in Panama.
Even the number of syllables in both song titles is the same.

How many people would you say were there oilcan00?
Suprafrk94 3 years ago
I remember the place being pretty packed....maybe a couple thousand...
oilcan00 3 years ago
We're you working for the venue? That would be hard for someone in the audience to get footage this good. Thanks for posting one of my favorites.

Personally, I think Scene of the Crime is the best. :)
It never gets boring by it's 7th chorus because it's that catchy plus the lyrics are really edgy.
JosephKuby 3 years ago
It's sounds like the bginning of sweet child o' mine in the begining of that song. I also love to the drum solo in that song on my drums.
daidi0121 3 years ago

That's very rare sighting.

oilcan00 you are the greatest for sharing this!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Yeah, Schenker was with them on this tour. He came out during Round and stayed out on stage for dirty Job, way cool, and a couple encore's....was very cool...I was right in front of Warrens monitor...so i got alot of guitar on audio!!
oilcan00 4 years ago
Its cool, but to bad the audio wasn't balanced. Otherwise it would have been better. I have this show, so thanx for taping it.
Rattfan86 4 years ago
