  • Nice ponytail and earrings. You can't be serious about officiating, walking on the field looking like a hippie from the sixties.

  • Is this for real? I sure hope not. This is the worst umpire training I have seen.

  • Look, I understand teaching but if a guy like this tried to swing his dick at a good high school/D2-D3 camp nobody would listen. I appreciate the effort but there is too much humiliation. Pull a guy over to the side to correct him instead berading him. BTW, white shirts under a black shirt are frowned on. Black shirts and the pro powder shirts require black undershirts. Dress the part if you wanna teach it.

  • I think you're misunderstanding. There was an actual drill where they said "Alright, now we're gonna act like dickhead coaches, and you have to stand up to it." it wasn't actually the instructors yelling at them

  • I was taught back in the day to call balks by pointing at the pitcher with my RIGHT hand and yelling, "That's a balk!" This method was taught by both Wendelstedt's and Brinkman's umpire school. Maybe Jimma teaches it differently now, who knows. Oh, and who cares? If I get rated down for using my right hand, the evaluator can blow me.:)

  • Not on ball four. The umpire should not point on ball four. It looks very Little League. The umpire should only say, "Ball Four." NO pointing, NO "take your base" or anything except "Ball Four." If the player doesn't know where to go, he shouldn't be playing baseball. Also, they shouldn't be teaching these people to bring their legs together on safe/out calls. It's not correct mechanics. Plus it looks really goofy!!!

  • Yeah hes right ur left hand for everything besides out: balk playball ball four annyways, hes right

  • in Professional Umpire School you ARE taught to use your left hand in calling a balk

  • let me help you there... in professional umpire school you ARE NOT taught to use your left hand to call a balk. it's your right hand you use.

  • Not at JEAPU. As for the other school I wouldn't know.

  • i was taught right hand at mlb camp at urban youth academy

  • the the hell are you bringing your legs together whenever you make a call???

  • I disagree. You should role play a hothead coach, but your idea that you need to be tough on the kids when training them does not create a good learning environment. It actually will stymie the learning process.

  • Instructor with ponytail and earrings - when you signal the balk - you should use your right hand first - not your left hand, Otherwise the rest was very well done. I do not like the way you guys teach the kids - you guys seem very gruff - too much yelling and embarassing the kids.

  • i'm not an umpire...but i have seen the training and i have seen kids games. The umpires need to be tough on the kids here, because they need to be use to the critisism when the hothead coaches who think they know what there doing try to scare the umps into changing calls

  • do not know where you got your umpire training but your left hand is used for calling balks. It is taught that way in Professional Umpire School

  • I can tell you its not at JEAPU.

  • Who teaches these mechanics? They are wrong on the out and safe calls. We call this "statue of liberty" when an umpire makes the mistake of bringing his feet together before signaling safe or out. Do not bring the feet together as shown in this video.

  • I love how he thinks working an MSBL game is hot stuff. Those one day a week players have no clue of the rules of baseball. They also don't care how good you are. If the close plays don't go their way, they cry about it. I've done enough MSBL games to know there are very few good teams and even fewer who know and understand the game of baseball. If you want good games and players, call Stan Musial games not MSBL games. Those have actual college players and those who have played college.
